  1. not so crazy, but the all the 22r problems have been more than addressed on the 3s motors, and yes the hg problems weren't only in the trucks, the 7mgte in the supras blew them all the time, bu tthen again the 7m was originally supposed to be a truck engine. Although i forget most people are used to the gas motors, but the diesel ones like in that video which i dont think were sold here are NUTS. WE did a diesel motor swap on my freinds 96 4runner, and the thing is outright beastly.
  2. I love Lexus v8's.. seriously one of the best sounding motors ever.. and they are so quiet, but once you put a exhaust on one.. AWESOME
  3. Clause.... stupid stupid man... fired!
  4. I always said, toyota.. thats where its at, they over engineer everything, look at the supra, 1000rwhp on stock bottom ends, nothing but a clutch in the entire driveline, stock rear end, stock axles, and the cars go 9's constantly without every replacing that stuff. I always had known the toyota trucks were amazing.. but that is F**king unbeleivable.. I know what im getting for my work truck now. Im keeping that as proof for anytime someone tells me toyota's suck.. a friend of mine works for lexus.. says its the best job ever, they almost NEVER get repair work, fact, at cobb county toyota on barrett parkway here in ga (MAJOR toyota dealership in the atlanta area) a friend of mine is a team leader, he says less than 6 % of all his work is repair, 94% of thier jobs is maintence on wear items and scheduled mileage stuff-which is at owners descresion, not because something broke, but because the owner feels they need to replace a timing belt at 80k. but that video.. incredible..
  5. You can't fool me John! I've seen the fast and the furious way too many times to believe that, turbo cars dont blow motors.. they blow the floor plans right out from under your feet!
  6. So today was the formula D competition at road atlanta, i was there for the scca races, but i decided to check out the drift competition, its finally starting to come around in america, the japanese drivers are always sick, but today some guys were busting it out in full on GTS class vipers. it was insane. So anyway, i thnk i wanna enter some of these competitions with the Z... they go crazy for the old school stuff, the 86's and what not. And Dave sholz or whatever drives one. Dunno, why i felt a need to post this, who knows, maybe I can be competitive, dont see why not? got the power, got rwd, plus z's are pretty ass happy anyway. thoughts?
  7. i dont understand why you dont have one made with the supra front, why do you need the u-joint... maybe i dont understand what it is your trying to do.
  8. well since we are talking about it, is there anyway the japanese people sending me the parts, not a business but a regular person, could have included those fee's in the shipping costs and charged me accordingly? because i dont remember having to make an additional payment when i was given those parts, they just showed up.
  9. ya, thats what im saying, your going to have to cut it one way or another. so you might as well just have an aluminum one made, but have it made where you can still use the rear coupler
  10. i guess the only thing i can say is... oooohhhhhhh. does only ups do that? cuz now im thinking about it and i shipped some stuff from japan, not with ups, and i dont think i paid that.... maybe i did. Makes sense though..
  11. hey man, was gonna post but didnt have time, honestly the DP is going to be a problem, no way about it without making some kind of WIERD bends. The 1jz is a few inches smaller, making the DP much easier to work with when you have a twin set-up, honestly, if it were me, i wouldnt think of putting a 2jz in without having a small single or something and building a DP from scratch. Not bashing, just giving anyone who reads this thread that would think about doing a 2j swap somethign to think about. As for the yoke in the drivetrain, im assuming you mean the disk at the rear diff, i wouldnt be knocking it as overcomplex, that little disk is what makes stock driveline supras run 9's and now even 8's on stock axles, stock trannies (except for the clutch) and stock driveshafts.. or simple aluminum replacments.. you could make it work without it by having the supra rear part of the shaft cut off and putting a regular type rear end on it.. but i would try my damnedness to get that to work if you could.
  12. my coil overs and everything to make the rear disk and the front toyota upgrade came today. everything looks amazing, although i was a bit confused as to why I got C.O.D charged 21 bucks for delevery cuz i thought i paid that but maybe i did somethign stupid when i ordered it all? ANYWAY... it looks great, cant wait to get it on and take some pictures... hopefully this weekend. speedy service, VERY AWESOME.
  13. Bashing the firewall isnt a bad idea. Im considering doing that when i swap out to the 1jz if i ever get around to doing it. As for Ac, on mine is custom lines and a supra compressor and everything else is the datsun pieces and it works fine. and for 450 hp, use whatever is close to the medium NPR intercooler size. We had one mocked up and it looked like it would fit really nicely.
  14. am i the only person that sees the problem with the category break down? Fastest 2jz? well thats only like 2 people, fastest Rb... again, on this board what? 3 people? fastest datsun motor.. thats like 100 something people probably. Other? well thats me, clifton,mattgnz... and...?
  15. see, thats what im saying, i have a turbo car, and supercharged car, and i think my next toy project is gonna have a bottle on it, which means ill have all 3 types of power adders. haha.
  16. something to add to the list i posted up on "what else have you guys owned" thread. its a daily driver, i love it. 1997 pontiac grand prix GTP (supercharged), its a 2 door but still enough room to carry my hockey equipment. Black on black leather, everything but a sunroof. power everything. Awesome, and these little buggers are fast, i was surprised how quick it was. previously owned by a pontiac dealership service manager, and yea, he actually knows a lot about the things. Had everything taken care/replaced that is a common problem for the car. VERY cool, im loving it. A little something to hold me over till i finish up the Z
  17. ITs times like these when i am really proud to tell people where i live...
  18. Not really true, because a big single on a v8 would mean making like a gn style set up,but to me all that pipe re routing, and back through an intercooler is pretty intense, id rather mod two manifolds and do some basic piping and keep the turbos to the side, plus they spool plenty fast bieng that close to the block. BUT its a lot cheaper to pick up two t4's on ebay versus spending 2k for something big enough to make what twin t4s would.
  19. depends on the engine, its easier on a v8,. plus twin turbo's on a v8 are usually t/3 t.4 hybrids or full to4s, which arent small. Like a Vg30dett, it makes more sense because that engine is set up as twin bank, two manifolds, two throttle bodies. Heres the supra argument, big twin kits on 2jz ( hks 2530) start to spool a bit later in the power band, but they come on REAL hard. a big single has a much smoother spool up, goes over the entire band, thats why most road racing turbo cars in japan, gtrs and supras switch to big singles, in fact the most popular is probably the t78. But on the street the supras get real crazy with true twins (sequential from the factory) and the back end breaks loose real hard, so most go single, but its the opposite for the skyline gtr, they keep the twins more often because the awd keeps the car straight when the smaller twins come on and they launch like a $&$*#@(@) on the highway, ever seen mario's car?
  20. Just wondering if anyone knows any good websites where i can get a lot of good information on turbo'd fuel injected v8's, like the old school ones that had to be converted to Fi from a carb, a la big block ford's and chevy's. Im thinking of starting a new project and a twin turbo v8 maybe the way i go. Thanks.
  21. it may have just been the fact that none of the guys there had coil overs with 17's and the two guys with the 16's did. I didnt check, it was just something that caught my eye.
  22. ok, im not even really sure what im looking for by posting this, maybe its just me but im hoping there is some type of good explanation for this. Today at the SEZ i noticed some things. 1) 17's dont look that big on Z cars too me, but maybe im just used to the 19s ive been putting on supras lately. and 2) the cars with 16's seemed to be sitting much lower. I wanted my Z to look like it was hugging the ground. and i noticed rick bowers car looks that way. I thought maybe it was the body kit but im not sure. Because this other lowered stock body Z with ccw's in 16's looked REALLY low too, but several cars with 17'' wheels seemed to be sitting up higher. before anyone says anything, fat tires for a 16 inch wheel usually have a sidewall A/r of what.. 50.. 45? and the 17s ive been seeing are 40. and i thought the rolling hieght of the wheel of a 17 was only fractionably taller than a 16... so how come the cars with 16s look so low....
  23. rode in the Batlground engineering Supra, the one that belongs to Dan Wiley 1000+rwhp. On I-75, i couldnt tell you my name during that ride. Drove a t78 4th gen that was a ton of fun. Also Cleve's datsun, now Bob's, that thing is SCARY, it made 500+rwhp on juice, it was scary as hell, we took that on 285 once near his car wash, INSANE.
  24. six speed makes a huge difference in that car, i HATE auto toyotas, they suck for performance, same as auto nissans. ever tried out an auto sr20 car, SUCK, manual sr cars are a ton of fun. the only way id drive an auto sports car would be with a v8 or if it were a GN (mostly cuz i have no choice)
  25. I didnt know we were counting wife's cars and other cars at the house, crap add this to my list then. 2002 isuzu rodeo 2000 chrysler sebring convertible 1997 jeep grand cherokee 1999 subaru impreza RS another 1990 supra turbo 2 other mk2 supras, 82 and 83.
