JDM 2JZ-GTTE supra swap need advice

yah i figured something was up. i didnt want to sound like an ass but now that i know whwere you oracle is. and good god do i have some stories about importers who didnt know what they were selling. unfortunately its too common. they start by getting stuff they know, then they pick up crap in the yard cuz its priced right and looks cool. I know people who were sold on stuff they shouldnt have bought...and i know people who got extra stuff they werent expecting. if he has the clip go look at it, if it is a jza80 and it IS a tt... then that guy has a sixspeed and thinks its a 5.wouldnt be the first time ive seen that. i dont know about au but here the going rate for a v160 is about 3500+ dollars. ive seen ones in good shape sell for 5k. go take a look and get pics. mike, i have a few r154s laying around if you decide to take one. and yea.. it will work long as its in ok shape. i would replace a few parts 1st but people run them behind cars like that all the time. the r154 is a hella strong tranny. people all over use them in v8 powered rock crawlers.. and you know those make torque. ive been around plenty of 700+rwhp supras with r154s. and yah.. if you have a 1jz now.. KEEP IT. the 1jz is a badass motor. of all the stuff ive had the pleasure of driving it is definatly one of my favorites. the thing REvs like crazy. just dont kill it with lag and it will keep you plenty happy when you put the gas pedal down. -

gotta remember.. 7m is to toyota as the KA24 is to nissan... it was originally designed for trucks.. not sports cars.

no n/a six speed. and no 5 speed turbo in a mk4. thats why i want the link. if it exists.. its not a factory built car. ive seen people in japan/uk/aus/nz where the parts are more available use 5spds and 1jz bellhousings to put 2j motors into cars that came na... but no factory built 5spd TT mk4 exists as far as i know. I didnt want to be as brash as just telling you that youre wrong which is why i ask for the link. id like to see what made you think it exists or maybe its a chance for me to learn something about some supras that were jdm market only.... but i know quite a bit about those cars. its what i mess with day in and day out. Z's are just a personal thing for me, i like the supra z because its a supra that weighs 2300lbs. which is fun. but im a supra guy 1st. so thats why i want a link. i dont want to be an ******* but id like to either educate or learn.. depending on whats going on. and yah... ive been on SF forever. same name over there. -

all 93.5 on up are six speed or auto.. no 5 speed on the turbo 4th gen. the na 4th gen supras use the w58... much weaker than the r154. your a lot better off with the r154. the v160 is cool, but the r154 fits almost perfect and the v160 is expensive, under normal circumstances its not gonna be any stronger than the 154, and your going to have to mod the shifter linkage.. which isnt a big deal but im pretty sure your gonna have to pound the tunnel. r154 is the mk3 turbo 5speed. The w58 is also what comes in the Soarers after 92. use a bellhousing and flywheel from a 1jz a70 car with the 2jz and be done. -

pm cyrus or Zgad. both have nice 2jz cars -
good luck. most people dont build them like that. i would try looking for some australian built cars or uk built cars. they seem to get ahold of the group a stuff which is cool. there was a thread about this on sf not too long ago.. ill see if i can dig up the info. and im really lazy but if you search for a guy named Seb who built a funky one in AUS.. i think his was 9ish. the 7m is kinda like the muscle car motor for a 3rd gen. they came with 2 major factory options.. the 1jz and the 7m.. im not counting the na motors or the 1g just cause. the 1jz was a hella revving engine.. japanese guys build those things to do 12k rpm no problem. the 7m has the displacement.. torquier. i have had 1jz and 7m cars.. the 1jz revved like a sport bike. i would do a 1jz if i was building an all out track car.. but i chose a 7m because all that low end tq is a ton of fun on the road. but people dont typically build them to rev out. Duane Stephens.. owner of CFX just built a pretty sick motor.. when he dyno's ill post it up or pm it to you.. it should rev pretty high.

i love that -
mine looked exactly liked tony's except i had an n1 at the end cocked up.. and the only part that scraped was the bend we had to put in to cock the n1 up and out... but it wasnt tooo crappy. I routed my w/g dump, i must be one of the wierd people who doesnt like the open w/g noise.. but anyway.. i would imagine it could be run under the tray pretty easy... are you cutting the tray out or leaving it? as long as the car isnt lowered a ton on bigger wheels i dont see a problem.. just measure! i think there is a pic of mine in my album.. maybe..

just curious what you guys are using. stock ecu with a piggy back like a power fc or e-manage or a tec3 or what. im still on the fence.. im comfortable in all my 7m-ness but im ready for something new and id love to keep it all nissan this time but i want to stay away from the rbs. I probably would have any bigger of a turbo set up than a gt2871r with cams and this car wouldnt see anything except 18-19psi on pump. any suggestions? my 7m car was a stock ecu and afc for a bit then we used the powerhouse racing map ecu. so i can run with either.. i just hate making more work than neccessary

but the wheels !!! seriously awesome. i love your car!

ill take what i can get... haha.

Hey man, i know ive asked before but since you have the dyno now.. how long till the next video? I always make the same request of everyone.. id love to see a speedometer run to a decent speed. its nice to see just how fast a car can put numbers away. i love watching the progress of your car!

haha, you know i got nothing but mad respect for you.. a half billion pm's about building theory from me im surprised you havnt just told me to go away. Everytime I think I have somethign smart to say, i run it past john to make sure im not completely stupid. i think thats how most of my pms to him end. i type out my idea and the finish with ".... or am i completely stupid?" which he always follows with "well it depends" which is followed by several questions i didnt know i was going to need the answer too and i find myself back infront of the car going.. "ok.. so now i have to measure what?"

whoa whoa whoa.. hold right on! there's plots in porn?... is that what i have been fast forwarding through during "cool downs"....?

this is stupid. what other online community owns there own car? Nobody does... do you know why? because shops and customers belong to online communities, and customers buy from shops, so shops need advertising so shops help sponsor sites for ad sections and shops own cars so that the customers on that site buy from them. And there are only a handful of z car shops so they dont even really need the advertising. All modern-motorsport has to do is let us know he is there.. and he has more business than he needs. 99% of the members on this board are individuals who do not work for a car shop that specializes in Z's. check out supraforums, or 300zxforums, or rx7forums, 30% of the memebers there are staffs from shops like sp engineering, z1 motor sports, mazdatrix, mvp performance, horsepowerfreaks.. etc. A a side from that.. whats the point? nobody would ever agree on a motor, nobody would ever agree on a purpose.. it would probably tear the forum apart. so you said what.. get a few people to build one together? how is that different from now. So if i start a project 7m car now.. ffim, zg flares, 61mm turbo, rs watanabe wheels.. i want to use it for road racing/ street. why is it any worse or better than alex's sr car... or hokes l28 car.. or stonys rb car...this is pointless. so if you give money to alex or stony.. should my feelings be hurt? what if im faster at road atlanta? what if you give me the money and the stickers, and 2 months down the road im having trouble getting attention, but Mikes green beast shows up in s3, superstreet, and one of the new car dvd's? this is a bad idea.. look at the pinks thread. learn from the past. BAD BAD IDEA. Most of the guys on hybridz would Gladly pay for and wear a badge. i wear my hybirdz hat and shirt all the time even though right now.. i dont currently own a z car. and i tell people all the time how much i love this forum.its the job of the people to support the forums they love.. not the forums to support the projects of the people.

2jz... no **** -
i love euro sports cars.. they just feel different. e46 m3's are like that, the older b5 s4. not a whole lot of noise, not psh psh shift with a turbo, just a subtle note and a lot of elegant acceleration. I drove an e46 for about a week and fell in love. those things are fantastic. i would love to own a dinan sc m3 for a daily. so smooth and so fast. you can cruise and if your not paying attention you will be in 3 digit territory thinkin your going 60. The only thing they lack really is that "rawness". a old muscle car, a datsun hybrid.. they do something that car cant, they feel like a raw sports car, no trims, all business. and sometimes i like that. I drive a modded b5 a4 quattro turbo now, close to 300awhp, great everyday, rain is no problem, but i miss my z. i guess thats why its good to have a daily and a toy! plus dont forget.. that m is gonna be more expensive to fix than your previous toys.. by a lot.

the r32 was the first play at it, i believe the r33 and r34 systems are much better suited for spirited driving. Everyone I talk to with modded gtrs who track them, especially the european guys, say its a lack of power and response not a handling problem stock. most of them leave the attessa alone, once they are making the 500awhp, they all describe driving the cars the same. go into a turn too fast, tap the gas for some oversteer, go opp lock, put the pedal to the floor and hold on. they all say its the best way around the corner. The nissan system is just completely different from what most people are used too. you can jump in a gtr and expect it to handle like an sti.. its way different. I think that guy didnt know what he was getting into.

one time i was going to post pics of the suspension and brakes in the old 7m z.. and then i decided not to because i was afraid he would yell at me. plus i didnt want to disgrace moder-motorsports stuff with my near crap install. especially since my welds look a lot more like jb-weld piles than actual welds.
