275-40/17 Mickey Thompsons DR pics
majik16106 replied to Clifton's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
awesome and your still at 500rwhp+right? have you pushed it through any turns at all? i always wondered about those in turns.. seemed like the sidewalls would bend. time go to big single supra/viper/zo6 hunting! -
ask guys like clifton and 2fiddy on this forum about 7m's. you have to remember.. your buying a car thats approaching 20 years old. its most likely going to have well over 100k miles on it. the motors arent going to be in the best of shape.. the reason there is so much bhg and bearing failure on places like SF is because most of the people start running 16-17psi with upgraded turbos with safc fuel tunes on 120k mile motors with stock hg and years of bearing wear. its going to break. a 7mgte with a new hg, arp studs and some new rod bearings will stand up to 500rwhp on stock pistons and rods no problem as long as the tune is good. and it will last a long time. i have buddies who have put 40-50-60k miles on 400+rwhp they beat up and have had ZERO motor problems. but they made sure the engine was up to par first.. and they tune the car fairly regularly to make sure its running correctly. its all about tuning and maintence.

I know a few pics of this car have been posted up a while ago. but I dont think anyone has posted up his new webiste.. or i completely missed it. if i did and this is reposted someone just delete this. anyway.. if you have not seen it.. prepare the hand lotion. http://web.mac.com/markrolston/iWeb/Site/Z-car.html

they grafted the gtr subframe onto the s30 frame rails? think about that.. it wouldnt just slide in.. like said a few posts earlier.. im not sure it would have been easier to just build a new one. again.. your taking major front end work. The main point i was trying to make.. which is the one people keep asking is that its take a whole lot of fabrication. I think a lot of people post asking about this hoping that we have found or know of some trick combining off the shelf parts or whatever that makes it a near bolt on affair. so fine.. they fabbed a bunch of mounts/brackets etc to allow a gtr subframe to work inside the s30 rails.. that just reiterates the point of my post.. no matter how you cut it.. your going to have to do some major work. the way we are going to tackle it we are hoping to use all bolt in gtr stuff as well.
-
are you running 15 or 16inch wheels? they look kinda small?
-
you have to fabricate..bottom line. imsure the whole front end..if not the whole car is basically tube framed.. that how we are doing it.. and thats how those guys in japan did it. you can set the motor wherever you want. we are trying to keep it as close to a gtr as possible.. he probably spent a lot more time figuring out how to make his geometries correct. AWD is fun as hell... thats for sure.. but anyway you cut it.. making a awd z is NOT going to just go together.. its going to take a lot of fab work.. in fact i cant see how you can do it at all without atleast tube framing the whole front end.

I did the same.. lol. i just made a cross bar and attached the supra mount to the top of it. my notch wasnt as pretty as cliftons though.. even the wiring isnt hard. like andy said above.. real simple stuff. and count me as another A70 guy turned datsun.. although id love to have another supra someday.
-
^--- depends on how you do it. lol. go find my old posts.. remember.. i have one of these sitting in the back of the shop.. i probably wont finish it for 10 years.. just cause. but mine is built for a road course/ street. pure and simple. im having more fun building another supra-z lol.
-
stock block around 1khp.. ok. not a stock bottom end though.. atleast not for long. like most straight 6's.. its not too bad.
-
yes

Yup... they are auctioning a Datsun at barrett jackson. and it still has the l motor. if any of you wanna check it out i think its on their website.. lot 325. ugly custom paint. first japanese car i think. I dont think they have done any 2000gts or anything. anyway.. thought it was cool.

get ready.. this year lehman is taking that car to One-lap.. and now its faster. and yah.. lehman is an incredible driver actually. he usually competes in GP events in a porsche.. its the one featured on http://www.imvfilms.com he does a lot of driving for them.also drives thier NASA evo. -
congrats.. see my post in the other thread. having the right woman is better than owning any car.... well .. except a ferrari 250 gt california.. but what are the chances of that?
-
one day.. one day i will match your skills of randomness.. im determined. i know i lost our last competition.. but its not over.

YES !! YES!! YES!!! and i wish i could find more ways to thank her. i know how it must be for some women to stand being with a car guy and my gf does it better than anyone i know. infact she often encourages it. and i unfortunately have not had the chance to ask her to marry me yet.. but believe me its coming. i WILL NOT let her get away.. because aside from being comlacent about my addiction.. shes also just always in my corner for anything else. quick story: sitting at coldstone creamery one night and a 68ish gto drives buy.. real nice resto. and shes says to me.. "see.. id much rather you spend money and have something like that then use all your money getting me presents or going out to dinner all the time" MY GF FTW !!
-
let me point out however.. that she is the only thing in that picture with any kind of muscle.. cuz god knows as bad at sucks having her in the picture... the 308 ferrari's probably suck worse.

i know im going to come off sounding like an ass.. but i feel it needs to be said. you spent 2800 on a vq35 and parts and the first thing you did was jump on here and ask "ok how the hell does this go in my z?". it sounds like your way in over your head. most of the guys here dont mind helping.. but i doubt anyone is going to spoonfeed you. case in point the vq drive by wire system.. its gonna be a job.. one which you obviously didnt see coming which tells me you arent doing ANY research. you need to do research. the 7m and vq45 transplants have been discussed over and over and over and anyone could at this point, read through the posts/threads to make thier own decision about which motor to choose through pro's and con's. And im saying this assuming you have quite a bit of automotive knowledge and are just not doing homework. because if your lacking in mechanical skill.. you need to stick to the 7m if your hell bent on doing a swap because it will be much easier to put in, in all aspects of doing a swap. all this of course is my opinion.
-
i know you have yours..but incase others read this.. i get turbo's from http://www.ATPturbo.com never had issues.

OKay Guys: Help me decide which 6 to put in my car!!

JDM 2JZ-GTTE supra swap need advice
majik16106 replied to Silver Mine Motors's topic in Other Engines
as far as i know.. the 1jz and 2jz vvt are completely different in the heads than thier non vvt counterparts.. its just like a honda vtec vs non-vtec. vvt motors are variable just like the hondas.. so yah.. it would be different parts. -

majik16106 replied to Silver Mine Motors's topic in Other Engines
unless you got a really good deal on it... i dont see the point. ive read the threads.. in fact i think i posted in them. but anyway. the 1jz does flow a little less stock.. BUT.. its not going to make that much of a difference unless your going for some huge power numbers. and if your going for huge power numbers you might as well be using a 2j, why waste time with .5 liter less displacement if your paying that much for stuff anyway? at that point you might as well go 2j and get all the usdm parts. also.. the 1jz head can be machined to accept aftermarket valves for a 2jz.. just look at Hamsmk3 (chris) and his build on there. And 2jz cams can be machined to fit a 1jz head and right now crower is doing grinds for 1jz cars. hks makes a set that works just fine and plenty.. and i mean PLENTY of 1jz guys in japan take their cars to 10k + rpm in japan with 1jz heads. i mean.. its not like youd be able to do it everyday anyway no matter what you build but it does get the job done when you need it. -
it is.. and lookin back my memory must be going. no m was intended for a truck.. or atleast if it was i cant find the info now. so im going with ooops. must be all the jokes people make about it all the time. lol. but keep in mind there have been so many revisions.. the similiarities from model to model are there... but a 7m compared to the 2000gt motor.. is COMPLETELY different
