Must depend on who you talk to there, most of the people that go there seem to by and large say they have bad attitudes and overcharge.

Some more testing, which leaves me puzzled. Pin 5 I thought, only shorts to ground to trigger a firing event, however I find that with key ON it is a constant short to ground??? With key OFF I show about 1200 ohms to ground at the intake manifold.

Has Anyone built a full-tube chassis v8 240z?
Mudge replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Without bending with a mandrel or hydraulic bender setup, you would compromise strength by hacking up the tubing and welding angles into it, you can legally do it in some race organizations but you must run larger tubing, tubing size depends on the weight of the vehicle. -
Troubleshooting as to why no spark on my 82 ZXT --> 73 240Z car. I've tested diz pulses, I've turned it by hand to do this, and heard injector activity, yet still no spark. So I tested my old 240 coil and my ZXT coil, resistance figures are lower for the 82 coil so I think its workable, and I have seen spark once from the output, but only when shutting the car off. Neg to output 8.6k ohm Neg to pos 1.5 ohm Coil transistor lead to lead is 4.14k ohm, but I dont know if there is a method of testing that? To coil transistor negative I have pin 5 (YW), and to coil transistor + I have the old wire, as well as IGN (BW I believe but have to check my notes). I do see voltage at the coil when IGN is in RUN and START. One thing I'm curious about is pin 16, this goes to LR on the fuel relay, and to "coil +", I'm not sure if this is neccessary or not, I am not using the stock fuel modulator or relay, however they are all left in place. I can't find any diagram which actually shows this LR going to the coil however, I've only seen it in text, so I dont know if its even important. The fuel relay gets its power elsewhere, so I am thinking its a signal to power the fuel relay only, and then goes back to pin 16 to tell the ECU what exactly? Or perhaps this is simply how the ECU actuates the fuel relay if the inhibitors are active or not, dont know.

Custom Art Carr boxed frame, $5000 or so. Front/rear suspension are C4. -

Scotty broke his, with way under 1000 HP, but it was an automatic rear which is smaller than the C4 manual. -
Tried unhooking the TPS ?

The injectors would work fine, they are the same. You have the ECU and wiring for the 82 though? So sounds like you are set to me, I'm sure someone will chime in with anything I may have missed though. Put in the 82 diz and I think your set.
-
Yeah, time has not been kind to my injector clips either, all of them are broken to one extent or another. One of the injectors that came today has a green top and different PN so I have to check to make sure they didn't ship me one standard injector, the rubber line was longer too, argh.
-
Especially without the aid of gas, you need a really clean spool of wire to work with. Go buy a new spool, they are ~$10 depending what gauge/length you buy, I'd probably go for something under 30 as you dont need a thick gauge with exaust stuff anywho.
-
Runs the same, do you know if its hitting closed loop after a few minutes?
-
I still wonder about that coil, but it would not explain the not-starting stuff. Is the alt charging the battery? If not, then it could explain the problem after running for awhile, both low voltage output and resistance in the battery wires perhaps if they are getting hot. I got my injectors friday but haven't started on the car yet today.

Good question Greg, I would think/hope that its color coded, maybe I can find something in my Chiltons about it.

Depends how picky you are, tube frame from Jegs for a 240Z is about $599 I think? I saw a drag ready car on eBay for about $2500 with a Jegs tube frame. Just remember though the car made around 130 HP stock, it wasn't made for 1000HP, a local guy with an SBC 327 and a cam twisted the crap out of his body, and he had a roll bar, still after awhile the doors would not shut. -
"The carburator is the only device known to man to deliver an incorrect air/fuel ratio at all RPMs." Not my own quote, dont know where it came from.

That is 100% Camaro, they are around 3200 pounds or less depending on options when stock, first gens have been one of my favorite all time cars for as long as I can remember! I had a 69 Firebird years ago, until I nuked the engine. As far as "uber 240Z" goes, http://www.fastassdatsun.com is probably my fave, he is a board member too. How do you think a 700HP turbo/300 shot nitrous would do with the sponsors? Its not quite the same, but you could at least get rid of some of that "useless" power for the track stuff, or you could always turn down the boost I suppose, which will help big time with heat too. What tracks are you looking to hit, or pretty much all of them? Who are you going to run with? -
Oh brother, when the water starts exceeding 2 feet, its time to turn back lady

Good to see you back. No its not my car, he just joined the same track group that I'm in, I sure would love to have a machine like that though. I would not doubt he is in the 2500-2900 pound range, but without knowing how much fiberglass/CF he has on the car who knows, I'll ask when I get the chance! I see what you mean about the big #/sponsor thing, as for going sideways yes it can be fun, I love having horsepower but that is something I feel is a PROBLEM for me because it complicates things on the track without the experience and overall setup to handle it/put it to the ground. I also again find it more fun to be able to floor it and feel like I'm driving at the limit, instead of the gas pedal being so touchy feely, with AWD and the right driver though, I'm sure it will be a beast. How much sponsorship do you think you will really get? Are you a speed shop outfit? If not then I can say from looking at local racers, sponsorship is not only very light, but what is out there is based on winning, not really numbers. I think its the import guys who sometimes look at numbers all day, and most of the time they are only show or drag cars. It sounds like quite a project, and it would be sorta neat to see it be done, but not being a shop guy I always look at bang for the buck as opposed to getting that last 3% performance with 8x the cost, although in true racing, sometimes thats whats needed to be at the top. There are enough high HP cars out there like Supras and such though, that I think personally what would be amazingly impressive is torque everywhere, not just a narrow top end like many high HP Supras are stuck with (huge single turbos). If you could drive to and from the track, that would likewise be a statement! -
I think that this guy may be in for a surprise

No crap, sign me up for one of those! I'd go for a 68 though I should get to see this guy on the track too, he just joined NCRC a few days ago -
I find that hard to believe, not that it could't be true, I'll bank on a near 100 pound crankshaft. Keep in mind the aluminum block LS1, its nowhere near half the weight of an LT1 (of course thats not all iron either, intake/heads are alum if you get an Fbody/Vette LT1). LS1 is around 60# lighter, plus this thing is going to move the weight distro very forward. I still look at the Jag V12 240Z, I believe it was around 3200 pounds? That weighs more than a hardtop C5. How DO they do it

My brand spankin new NAPA injectors arrived today, I'll report back how the weekend goes http://www.sherco-auto.com $99 for all 6, Napa is like $74 each!

Dont buy drilled rotors, they offer no benefit other than selling more rotors for the companies that make them because they will usually last 1/3-1/4 the time of a normal rotor, cryo treating them may help, but they offer no performance benefit other than bling bling looks. There is a way to use a vented rotor with the setup, but there is a specific caliper to buy, and unfortunately I dont know the denominations for that. Keeping the solid rotor though, is a waste of upgrade effort IMO. For a street car it wont matter hardly at all, but if repeated stopping is your game, get a vented setup. I road race the car and find frankly, that steel lines + some good fluid are going to keep me happy for quite some time, my 195/60 300 treadwear tires cannot stand up to my brakes, so steel lines IMO will make any stock setup just fine until you get some big stickies, which is something I will upgrade in a few months. In stock form, rear brakes are overly powerfull without a biasing valve. The reason I'd upgrade them is mainly ease of maintenance with a caliper setup vs drums, easier brake inspection and lighter weight as well.
