the s130 distributors are supposed to be a good swap for all L series engines
-
Yeah, I have a 350z yoke off a 08 350, but I haven't got things mounted yet to get a measurment so I haven't had a shaft made... but it's still on the list... Phar
-
Nice, Well it's not too bad. there was a $500 dollar car here on craigs that looked pretty decent, cept for the missing fender and hood, but Nelson here has spares he would sell. If you're going to be in ABQ the next albuquerqueZ.com club meeting is this coming thurs. I'd be pretty afraid of the holes in this one... but it's up to you, and if you're looking to teach the boy about fixing holes.. but again, call the DMV, if you have the title, and a bill of sale, it shouldn't be a big deal. though I'd make the seller come to the DMV with you. Phar

Call the NM DMV and see what they'll require for you to get it titled. if all the plates match the chassis, then you should be able to go off the door plate as to the year. It doesn't look like a bad find for 300, but you'll be spending a little to fix the holes. BTW: it's good to see you back on here, I've checked your site a couple times looking for updates but I guess you guys have been busy... Phar

I guess a good question is, where did the ECU and harness come from, your G35, or the 350Z. and what year?
-
Yeah I mislabelled that, my manual says IPDM is intelligent power distribution module. It's the underhood fusebox.
-
Okay... Lets see what I can ID. first here's your pict #2. THe Black box is of course your ECU. I think the large white plug above it is the body Harness connector. If you DL the FSM it'll give better picts to match up. The plugs above that I think are for the fusebox.. The gromet is for the firewall. This looks like the engine compartment harness. The plugs outside the grommet should be the ABS actuator. then the plastic tranny tunnel harness protector, then down to what I think are the tranny sensors. After that theres a bunch I am not sure about, I know the headlights and fans and such also run off this same harness. What I did with mine was that I got a roll of tape and just started labelling plugs as I figured what they were with the FSM. it really helped a lot. The G35 FSM might help you more since you said that's what this is from, though it does look really similar to the 350z. Phar

At this point it'd be likely easier to come up with an under dash harness. I have a spare that I might not use since it's a DE harness, and my engine is a HR. I was only holding onto it incase I was missing any connectors. In any case If you have the ECU reprogrammed, they're going to cut out a lot of systems that the ECU and BCM use, obviously, but does that include OBDII (consult3) compatibility? I would expect not, since in that video it looked like he was connected through the OBD port. Really you should call them up and see what you need to bring them and be clear as to what they will be doing for you. Getting it running w/o all the extras is one thing, but running as stock may be another. It is cool they were able to do that.. If you need my harness, send me a pm. I think it's from an 06. Phar

Progress on my insane VQ35HR 240Z project
Pharaohabq replied to markrolston@mac.com's topic in Nissan V6 Forum
That's looking great Mark, You'll have to let me know how that 1 piece fits over the HR motor. on my HR project, it's going to be a really tight fit. so much so I may end up shaving some of the ribs off the plenum, much less ditching the engine cover. I guess you don't have to worry about the steering crossmember though. -
Well it looks pretty cool, I bet it wouldn't be too hard to fix up, the lack of title really bothers me though. WWW.AlbuquerqueZ.Com. Maybe some of the other local Z guys might be interrested. Phar

WTB 260Z Choke cable assy, to fit on SU carbs. thanks Phar

There's gas where the oil is
Pharaohabq replied to omar_munoz123's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Well. it IS possible to replace the rings with the engine still in the car. You'd need to remove the oil pan and head. Send the head out to be ground and have the valves reseated, along with the new seals. (get the type that work w/ unleaded gas. Anyway, with the pan off and the head off, you can unbolt the rods and pop them out the top, then re hone the cylinders and replace rings, then put it all together with a new chain and bearings and boom, you're all set. it's just about 10 times easier to do all that on an engine stand and cleaner too. Making my own EFI intake... The First Casting
Pharaohabq replied to Derek's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
Derek, So by now you've got to be around the 1000 mile mark, I would assume everthing is running wonderfully. I was curious though how well are the foam/mesh screen filters working out? are they getting clogged very easilly? have you had any other issues? I was thinking about this too, how well would this type of setup work with the Z31 EFI swap. It converts to a MAP and with the 83 dist it has CAM timing for sequential firing. I imagine it should work well... I gues we'll still never know unless you go into production... oh I've been refering guys your way about the injector caps you made.. Phar -
Has anyone painted a fuel rail?
Pharaohabq replied to MikeyZee's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Probably this should be in the paint and bodywork section but... I would recommend getting it powdercoated. it's sturdy and heat resistant. easy to do on any metal part. tho a fuel rail doesn't often have to worry about too much heat since if it did it would boil the fuel. (260z problem) -
YEah, wut he sed... the switches are easilly replaced with whatever type you really need. so normally open, or normally closed are easy. it's amazing how many Z's have this switch go bad on them, I've seen 3 in the past year (including my 78) go bad. Your car looks like a 240z so it's going to be the push switch. normally closed. when you push the brake, it lets go of the button and allows it to close the circuit to turn on the tail lights... oh I was going to say, some later S30's have a rubber pad that pushes the button, over time that rubber can fall off and poof no brake lights. nissan still sells the rubber pads.

Yeah the 5x in my D21 91 nissan hardbody has really crappy gearing for the freeway. I'm revving 3500 in 5th at ~70MPH. I'm not sure it would be a good choice for you for a cross country trip. I don't know where your Tranny came from, but I think the Nissan pickup trannies are all lower geared. You might get ahold of Derrek on here, He's the guy who made his own EFI horned manifold. it's freaken awsome, but he already designed EFI fuel injector holders, tapped for lines. Check these out: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=129941&page=18 I think it's cool anyway... Phar
-
Okay, So, yeah it's installed on my HR tranny now, to it works and lines up fine, tho I need to weld the shackles, mine are currently held together with a pair of vice grips. so youre good w/ the HR 6sp trannies...
-
Yeah I've got the same issue where it doesn't get supper hot, it does get some hot here in New Mexico, I was thinking like you were, of mounting the Alt lower and putting the AC up higher where the Alt was, hopefully clearing the exhaust manifold. It'll probably take some custom bracketry but I think it might fit. I've seen some V8 conversions mount the AC in front of the engine. but that's not very clean. the other idea we had was to use electric AC to keep things cool. it would be more self contained and could be installed about anywhere. I'm going to try to put the power steering on mine too, but that'll be after I get it all installed and running. I'll use the subi rack and the 350Z PS pump. Phar
-
Yeah I'm at almost $3000 right now going the peice by piece direction, and I don't even know if all my parts will work together. so year, save a lot of headache and just buy all the parts at once from the same car. it'll save you a ton... So, speaking of, you didn't say if you had extra unused modules laying about Emwhyr0hen...? maybe gauges and ABS parts? Phar

260Z seatbelt interlock. Defeat
Pharaohabq replied to Pharaohabq's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
great, thanks for the quick answers. we'll try that and see if it'll let it start. This car's been sitting a long time, (16 years) but it's got like 0 rust. So hopefully we'll make it go. Phar -
So, I've read the the interlock system can be defeated on a 260Z, but I can't seem to find how to do this. I did SEARCH here, and didn't find out how, so if you know, could you run us through it? thanks Phar
-
heh, it's a lot easier to part it out if you don't have a title than it is to sell it. that is if you don't mind the possible legal implications. Technically he shoudl get the lien forclosed first before trying to part it. prety stupid either way, he should have just told you, no, $200 is too low, i'll part it. bleh.. people...
-
yeah, sounds like your fuel filters. there's 2 of them one in the back and one in the front. you might pull loos your fuel line at the front and run some gas through it to be sure there's no crap in it. then replace the filters again...
-
hehe, on my 280, the brakes are in the upper, the turn signals in the lower, and I think the parking are in just the upper (inside) holes. maybe search google images for Z tailights.
-
yeah, it's a lot easier to make them look good in photoshop than IRL. Soon as I get a little closer I'm going to start working on this. I've got a fiberglass headlight bucket one of my friends was going to toss, so I'll now have something I can play with, without mucking up my stock bucket. The Mini cooper lights are my first choice, but they might be too large. other choices include: Mercedes, jaguar, BMW Jeep Volkswagon all these mfg have cars that could work, but really I'm thinking it's going to be a cut and mould situation, likely having to build a custom housing to fit. I've got some glassworking friends that might help me make some pyrex lenses to seal into the bucket.. not cheap tho, so I'd need the plan before making any... Phar
