  1. Now I am an Old Fart, I raced back in the "OLD DAYS". Raced Barstow to Vegas, only finished once on a twin pipe CZ, Motos were 3 per race day not 2 as they do today. Anyway me an all of my race buddies use to run every Saturday morning to get our legs in shape, remember we had only about 6" of suspension on the bikes. According to some of the old stories some of the world champs would practice on their bikes I day a week with no seat to work on the legs! Dirt Bikes when you are pushing them use ever muscle in the body. Rather than diet go on a heavy workout program, lots of running and aerobic exercise. Please always use all of your safety gear hitting the ground without it Hurts!

    i'm a dad!

Congrats Now you have to go buy a Mom's Day Gift!!!!! Give them love and guidence and respect for others and the kid will turn out great.
  3. The side markers are from a new VW Bug. I got the recesses from a junk yard and welded them in. The side vents are from a camaro. I set them on the inside and molded them in. Had a heck of a time with cracking at first. I finally used glass reinforced filler on the back side and flexable filler on the outside. No more cracking problems. I would rather went with cut in hood louvers but couldn't find anyone who did them. Hey the car is a driver and at 60 mph going by it looks ok.
  4. Here is what I have on the SS louvers

  6. I went the cheap route, SS louvers from a marine shop, definitely old school.
  7. On the Highway around 30 MPG for my first 240z. Got better than that going across Texas drafting a moving van on the same trip. Got 26 mpg on my 260 across Calif flat lands.
  8. Get an old Harbor Freight type Mig welder with a worn out inner shieth and that is what it will look like. You can weld one bead and it will look great and the next the dang thing will spit no matter what you do. Used an borrowed welder like that on my convertible project. Went though more grinder blades that I would like to mention. No my welds were not that bad but I sure was not happy with some of the results. You get what you pay for in welders.
  9. Go to TWM induction in Goleta CA that I got my gaskets from, they use to import SKs. They have a web site. There is someone on Ebay that is selling what looks like SKs for about $2K. I do not know if they carry parts. Gasket is all that you will need.
  10. One thing that you want is full penitration on the weld. On SS you get "Sugaring" on the back side. Sugaring will cause turbulance and reduce your exhaust flow. You can either purge the tubing with argon or your weld gas or use Solar Flux.
  11. Could you send me info on what jetting the set up has, air, emussion tube, main and idle jet, and what boost it is designed for. It seem like no one has any information on this. Thanks
  12. Being an old broke down pipe welder I do not really see the need for a foot petal. I welded on everything from a comercial projets to a nuclear power plants. The only time I needed one was making a belt buckle, very fine work. Never got into aluminum welding so could work there. When using a high freq unit the petal was off or all of the way on. I would look at getting a good DC welder and tig torche, unless your want to weld aluminum.
  13. Tony D After reading my weber book it looks like reducing the size of that air correction jet would richen the mixture. It looks like the secret to blow through is all in the air jet and the emusion tube. I sent your a message on the box.
  14. Isn't VW looking at using a supercharger at low RPMs and a turbo at high RPMs? It would be the best of both worlds. The surpercharger for low end torque and HP and the turbo for the free HP on top end. The surpercharger would kick off at set RPM or boost from the turbo. NO TURBO LAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  15. I did the calcs and it will work. I do not plan on running the car at anything close to redline. It is an M62 the same size as the guy who has the SC injected set up. And he is putting out arould 15 psi of boost by his posts.
  16. Great Info Tony D. My current design is a Mercedes SLK Super charger, Subaru WRX intercooler, electric fuel pump, Malory pressure sencing fuel regulator and 4" square intake box and the 45mm Sk carbs. Your write up was the first info that I have seen on the need for a higher pressure in the floats. I was planning on adding a blow of valve on the intercooler. It looks like I have 2 options, change the intake box or take a seperate line from the compressor discharge to the float bowls and let the pressure drop through the intercooler take care of the pressure diffence. This would also requied a small bleed hole from the bowls to the box. I would rather go the first route. Could the added pressure in the floats have something to do with the air emusion tubes? I really have not read exactly how they work. One neat thing on this supercharger is the electric clutch. It can be turned on and off with a flick of the switch. In my mad engineer design I was thinking a adding a check valve to another air cleaner on the down steam side of the intercooler to allow running without the supercharger. I know the jetting would be to rich but it would be and option. Now Jetting would be another issue. Did some pressure drop calcs across the venturi to see what the change in density of the air would create. Looks like the jet change would be smaller than one would think. I am planning on adding an Air/Fuel meter to help with the jetting.
  17. I guess I am just a hard headed old man. Everyone says don’t do it but got the carbs for $100 and the supercharger for $60 so why not. I am still working on my blow through SK racing carb, weber clones, set up. I am using a supercharger in lieu of a turbo and plan on around 10 psi of boost. My motivation level is not very high on getting the project done; we are looking at relocating to some other state in the next months. In the last couple of years I have only seen one person at hybridz who is still running blow trough triples and he is thinking of going FI the last I saw. I have collected several pictures of blow through setups, but who knows how may are still running. There is not a lot of information on the internet on blow-through Webers.
  18. Change the oil in the engine, fuel filter and tranny fluid. Put new fan belt on and take off. Buy a cheap set of hand tools. Keep a quart of oil, brake fluid and antifreeze in the car and take off and have a great trip. I got my 260 from my sister in-law and drove from southern Cal to Northern WA. All I did was change the oil and flush the brakes. I had been sitting in the grass on their ranch for years. Have a fun and safe trip. And please take your time, trying to drive straight through could make the trip longer than you think or planned.

  21. Hood Pins are "UGLY", I would look at DZUS fasteners. http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/dzus.htm They are flush with hood and do not scrath.
  22. I already stated the conversion on the before ugly white 260 big bumper Z After the first paint job was destroyed during a move. I like the "OLD SCHOOL LOOK"
