  1. Your speedometer cable is coming apart, the outer braiding is hanging up on the casing.
  2. You might check this out http://www.desertzassociation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=1194 It is in Phoenix
  3. I just had an situation that could have resulted in some serious damage to my house. I bought some primer and spray gun cleaner about a year ago. Primered the Z and set the rest of the can of cleaner on the shelf. This last week I used some of the cleaner to clean up some grease on the driveway and put it back on the shelf. I kept smelling the cleaner in the garage for the next day. Checking it out the bottom of the can had leaks all over it. The cleaner had eaten out the bottom of the can. So if you have some gun cleaner in your garage keep an eye on it.
  4. To shave my side lights on my car I used a mig with gas purge. I welded about 1/2" long bead and let it cool. Also skip around on the filler piece to reduce warping. Then ground it smooth and did a little filling with flexable body filler. Running to long of a bead on thin metal will cause warping and you will burn through. I could care less what the back side looked like. Take your time and do it safely!
  5. The side of the road is not the place to hold on to the departed, it is done in the heart. I think they are tacky and a form of litter. There should be a fine for putting one up and removed ASAP by the road crews. That would make people think twice about putting one up. I might be considered cold hearted by saying this.
  6. I didn't use that spoiler I modified a 70s camaro trans/am spoiler and molded it in. I used the trans am ends I think the camaro would work better in hind sight.
  7. It could have a spun rod or main bearing. That will seize a motor tight. I would pull the pan and check them one at a time. There could be a reason other than the Z being wrecked why the engine was pulled.
  8. I am a Mechanical Engineer in Prudhoe Bay AK. Work for a consturction firm for one of the oil companies. Was a pipefitter welder for about 20 years, had a back injury, went back to school and got a Mechanical Engineering Drgree. I work 3 wks on and 3 off so I am also semi retired!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. What Coil are you running with the ignition boxes? With muti spark the coil has to get warm.
  10. The other question is how many miles do you drive it per year on average. Mine would be less than 200 miles per year over the last 9 years taking in the time to do the mods.
  11. I fixed my heater valve with an "O" Ring. It was several years ago and has never leaked since. It has been to many years to remember how the valve was put together. The valve was leaking out around the shaft. It has an O ring seal on the shaft. I installed a new one and greased it up. It is a real pain in the back to get to the valve.
  12. Get a good welding hood. One that is confortable to wear. After all of the years of welding I just got my first auto darkening lens, seem like it will be neat afte I get use to it. Welding with cutting goggles even with a welding lense is dangerous. I had to use cutting goggle a couple of time due to no room for my hood. Even with a bandana across my face I still got some sun burn. It was not worth it. If you really like the welding goggles, get a pipeliners pancake shield. They are like a set of welding goggles with with a flat shield attached to protect the face. Most of them have a curved section to protect one ear.
  13. I already have one!!! only it's a 260 http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=111048
  14. I used 50/50 solder on mine. You do burn up the paint with this methold. I used nocorode soldering paste. I would use the mig welder instead.
  15. I got mine from Motorsport Auto. They are tagged for off road use only. Was a little dissapointed on that.
  16. You might want to contact http://www.tucsonz.com/ The Z club in Tuscon
  17. With solar-flux do not mix with alcohol that the manufacturer recommends, use water, it will not flake off and works just as well. I used a lot of the stuff on SS drain piping in Breweries.
  18. Bought the 260 for $500 about 9 years ago from my sister in-law. Picked it up in Calif. and drove to Bellingham WA. It had been sitting in a field for around 4 or 5 years. All I did was change the oil and flush the brakes. The broken blown out strut on the diver side rear hammered all the way to WA.
  19. The MGB has the same bolt pattern as a Z from what I here, The wire wheels for the MG have bolted on adapter . The big problem in the 14" wheel size. You also might want to check out the knockoffs for the Cobra Kit Cars.
  20. I put a set on my Z, they sure work better than stock. They do not fit the head light rings as well as I expected. I also had to buy a relay system. I do not think the stock Z head light wiring has enough power.
  21. Without having to change out the cam and getting into the internals of the engine. I would fab a supercharger set up like the one on this TR6. I think this set up could make your 200 hp.
  22. I agree there is just to many neat projects, strut bars, a custom rear end panel, suspension parts just to name a few. Look at some of the stuff that other people have fabricated for ideas.
  23. I think this guy spent a little too much time out at the Hanford site getting his brain radiated and glowing in the dark!
  24. I would not bother with the webers. If I was building as custom manifold it would be using tripple stock 240 SUs. One thing really watch the heat distortion when you start welding. I would start with a spare head or jig and build off of that. Have fun, welders do there best work in the dark!
  25. One thing I forgot to mention is to do those exercises that they give you in Physical Therapy. I have found that if I follow them every day my back feels a lot better. You will find that there is a line between doing to much and too little. If I sit around too much my back will flare up, if I am overly active my back will act up. Hang in there, I hope all of us back suffers will have a less painful New Year and our club gets no new members.
