That sounds pretty low to me. My L28 NA has about 45 psi ,cold, at idle and not much different when warm. I'm using Mobil clean 5000 10w40.
-
I like the cluster. Maybe it needs a matching speedo that goes higher than 115.

Which 240sx does the 60mm throttle body come off of? (S13 with single cam or dual cam or S14) And does it just bolt on or do I need an adapter? Does it work with the throttle linkage or do I need to use a cable? Sorry for all the questions, but I've been trying to find someone with the 240 TB setup.
-
I didn't know a TPS from a 240sx would work with the stock ecu. I got one from a friend and modified it to work with the stock harness for my megasquirt that I'm working on but I didn't use it because I didn't want to fry anything.
-
Your right. But it doesn't really do much. At least not in my experience. I've played with the adjustment on 4 different TPS, 2 on an NA and 2 on a Turbo, and I never noticed any difference in either idle or WOT. Maybe It was just me. I don't know. It made a noticeable difference in my friends 240sx, so maybe its just the type of TPS. I'm definitely no expert. lol.

The TPS on a 280ZX isn't a potentiometer type. Its just a simple switch type. It only measures closed throttle and WOT.

What body kits were available in '72?
Ferrariferg replied to liveforeverZ's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
/ same question. I might just have to see that one. -
If it came with a manual trans, either T5 or Nissan, or it was Turbo, it came with a R200. You don't need to modify the flange. He was saying that if the driveshaft is being shortened that they cut the flange off, remove material from the end, and weld the flange back on.
-
Just replace it. They are fairly inexpensive. If you really want to open it then you need to drill out the 2 rivets that hold it shut. There really isn't any adjusting you can do other than to bend the arms inside to make sure they are making contact.

I guess its a good thing that I'm friends with the son of 2 people that work for a transmission rebuilding company. They gave me a quote for $100-$200 for all the bearings and syncros. Mine is going to need them to. Its about to hit 300,000. What horse power/torque are these trans good for? My goals are around 450-500.

Wow. I love it. lol. Maybe I can show this to my friend and he will put one in his hatch. I've already got him and my other friends calling the L motors RB prototypes. lol. It would go good with his CA18 turbo hatch track car. Hows it drive? Which motor was in it before (i.e. single cam or dual cam) or was it motorless?
-
I believe mine is around 3000 doing 60. Maybe a little above 3000.

Here's my thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=138237 I couldn't find the gear ratios. I can't remember where I put them. Maybe they were in the service manual? hmmm. I'll look later when I can find it.
-
It should top out at 85, not 80. Damn government regulations. lol. Its definitely a pain to not know how fast you were going isn't it? I've clocked my NA auto at about 125 before by having my friend driving next to me. That was before I tuned it for better performance though so I'm sure its a bit faster now. If your gauges are analog then find a set from an early 79. They go up to 130 if I remember correctly. I'll find a link to a thread I started about the speedo problem. There are designs for making a separate digital speedo that registers as fast as you can go. I think I have the gear ratios for both transmissions somewhere. I'll try to find them in a little bit and post them here for you. I'm pretty sure they are different though.

Ok. Thanks. I was worried for awhile there that I was going to have to unwrap part of the harness to track down a wire.

My dad just got me a junky turbo car for parts and it seems to be doing the same thing except that it doesn't happen at any certain RPM. It just seems to happen at random. It will either hesitate and then recover or the RPM's will drop and then it will surge back to life. The idle is pretty eratic as well. Its fairly smooth, but it will slowly drop from around 750 to 500 and just as it is about to die the RPM's will jump to 1000 and then slowly drop again. I'm going to try changing the TPS from my na and cleaning the tank tomorrow. I'll let you all know if it helps. Can someone tell me if the connector on the harness for the TPS has 3 pins or 2? The TPS has 3 pins but my connector only has 2. My na has 3. That doesnt seem right.

DO NOT GET THAT TURBO! My friend used the same turbo on his 89 240sx with a ca18. It had massive amounts of shaft play when he got it. The turbo lasted for less than 25 miles and 6 good pulls. After that it sounded like something crawled inside the intercooler tubing and was howling in pain.

Haven't updated in awhile and I figured today would be a good day. I added a resonator tip to my exhaust to eliminate the droning that it had. Sounds much better. I also put in an MSD Blaster SS coil. No big deal. Cleaned up the engine compartment a bit more. Rerouted some wires and vacuum lines. I added an electric 12" fan, but I have an overheating problem so I'm gonna need another. I welded some holes in my floor pan. I have no carpet at the moment. Thats some pricey stuff. lol. I stripped the entire interior and changed the color of all the panels and dash from tan to red and black. Its coming together pretty nice. I also Installed a new stereo with a custom faceplate and mounted gauges on both sides. Ones a boost/vacuum and the other is oil temp. I've also added 2 four point racing harnesses. I'm hoping to get carpet and racing seats sometime soon. I've done a few other things I can't think of at the moment. The big update today is that my dad bought a 1983 280zx Turbo 5 speed for me. The car is pretty rough but it runs pretty good and has an almost new clutch. Its got about 300,000 on it but the turbo still spools pretty well. I'm definatly addicted to boost now. The motor is going to be rebuilt and hopfully bored over to 3.0L. I've got all kinds of ideas for what I want to do to it. Like maybe twin turbo. Not sure yet. Gonna be awhile before I decide. I bought a Megasquirt v2.2 and a stimulator and assembled them. The megasquirt seems to work with just the stimulator but I couldn't get it to work on the computer. Hope I can get it working soon.

Very nice. Hows it run?
-
Me wanty your car and engine. I'm sure you ear that a lot. Very nice. Cleaned it up quite a bit. Any noticeable difference?
-
Very nice. I love that look.

They are just the projector housings that float around on ebay for like $30. I figured I could get those and and then I could get the HID ballast and bulbs later. These scatter light all over and the projector lens is a badly made fog light lens. Just avoid them. If you just want to upgrade so bulb replacement is easier then get a set of housings from MSA.
-
I don't know about all 260's, but my dads does not. It has an air pump where I would imagine one would go.
-
Looks great. Cant wait to see it with the covers. I have the cheap ebay projector housings on my 280zx right now, but as I learned right after I bought them they are horrible. The stock lights just didn't cut it for me and these are a little better but those are what I was looking for from the start.

Do you wear gloves when working on the Z?
Ferrariferg replied to 280Z Turbo's topic in Non Tech Board
I try to but I don't always use them. I have latex gloves for when I need to be able to feel what I'm doing and get into tighter spaces and regular mechanic gloves for regular work just to protect my knuckles and when I need a tighter grip on a wrench. The rest of the time I'm bare handed. I think I'm going to keep an extra pair of each in my car from now on. My hands have been stained for 3 days from helping a friend with his jeep.
