Ate another driveshaft???!!! Thoughts?
z2go replied to dat240zg's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
Along with what Frank said, you might try this handy little tool: http://forums.hybridz.org/index.php?showtopic=43993 Pulled it out of the FAQ's, if you never had an accurate read on the alignment of the tranny to the diff, that could be putting some unnecessary stress on the driveshaft. -
This thread ROCKS! Ol' germ-o is really getting his point across. Maybe I'll go out and rob a liquor store... I mean... some rules were made to be broken...

Just a tip/suggestion, you can get the bolts you need at a good hardware store, and it's a good chance to upgrade to grade 8 bolts while you are at it. The microfiche will tell you what sizes you need. Here's a link: http://www.xenons30.com/reference.html

It all comes down to pride of ownership. If you are ok with your place looking like a dump, then you have no pride in the things that you own. There are plenty of people like that. HOA's are a pain, but they are kind of like everyone's MOM... "Mow the yard! Pick up your damn toys!" Some people just need told what to do... I bought my house in a neighborhood that was going under a lot of foreclosure, now most houses are bought up, but there are a few people that moved in who don't really care much for what things look like. One would be my next door neighbor. They mow the lawn twice a year, don't do anything for the weeds, etc. Everyone has trees in their yard, and theirs is half the size of everyone else because they don't water, or fertilize. We don't have a HOA, because the builders of the development were supposed to turn it over to a HOA when they were done building... they never finished building, because of the market turning for the worst. So, we are in limbo. They are supposed to enforce the rules, but they have one foot out the door. Kind of sucks, because most houses look really nice, but a select few look like total garbage. On the other side of the tracks (metaphorically speaking) The houses are 15-20 years old, and half of them have 4 foot high chain link fences, weeds, broken down cars, and other things in various states of decay. It looks horrible, and that's where the ghetto-types seem to flock. No one wants to act 'hood' around nicely manicured lawns, nice cars and beautiful homes. That's not real, yo! That's at least my opinion. It seems that the scenario here is really just an incredibly picky, bored property manager who feels their complex is so upscale that it doesn't want to allow anyone but the most affluent to live there, and drive their benz's and BMW's and wear their designer suits. You are probably being singled out because of it, which is bordering on discrimination. How many people live in the complex? If its gigantic, how the heck do they have time to single you out???

I accidentally bought the wrong driveshaft flange from JTR. My rear end, as it turns out, has the 2" pilot flange. I have the 2.25" version, brand new. I know the 2" is 10 bucks more, so I would be happy to cover that, if it's new. If you aren't looking to trade, I can buy it outright.

HOA's keep property values up, and try to keep people from letting their places go to ****, but really, people will do what they are going to do... I think it's ridiculous that they are making such a stink over an oil spot, is it concrete parking or asphalt? If it's asphalt, the stuff is made from the same thing that is leaking, it blends in! Maybe you should create a diversion. It seems they have too much time to pay attention to petty things. I suggest you get a gang to move in down the street, and have them wreak havoc on the neighbors. You know, gun fights, etc.

You are right. Isn't that transmission essentially an upgraded version of the original T5 shape, but with guts rated at around 600hp?

There's no problem with not wanting to dump a bunch of money into a car. However, these cars are money pits. If you don't spend 9000 initially on the car, you can expect to spend twice or three times that to get it to the $9000 value. No one works on a Z because it's cost effective... in fact, most people don't work on any car because it's cost effective. Z's are just barely getting to the point where they are gaining value, and people have been fixing them up for decades. It's a love thing, not a logic thing. If you want to do it on the cheap, you should sign up for a community college auto body repair class, and take your time. The crappy paint job needs to be removed completely, it's only going to continue to bubble up and cause nightmares. If you do it yourself you will save thousands, and it will probably look nice (enough) too.
-
Buy the JTR book, it will tell you everything about compatible transmissions and their advantages/drawbacks.

That is exactly my point, too. What looks horrible in rust is also HORRIBLE to your car. Think of it as this: You find out from your doctor that you have skin cancer. Instead of undergoing treatment, you go buy lotion, tanning spray, moisturizers, and all other kinds of anti-aging type products to try to make your skin look better, to mask the cancer. The problem is, you have done nothing to fix the problem, and you are getting sicker in the meantime. If you want to hide the problem, go ahead and rattle can it. Shoot, throw some bondo over the rust holes to make it look sort of whole again, even. Your car won't last 5 years.
-
Rust is cancer. Literally. If you do not eliminate the rust COMPLETELY, it will spread, and spread, and spread, and spread, until there is no metal left. If your only concern is to hide the rust, and not fix it, and you just want the car to look somewhat decent, sand down the rust, hell, even use some POR 15 on those areas. But, if you don't eliminate it, it will come back in a year or two, and you will be facing the same problem that you have right now. You are right, if you are trying to get money back out of it, it is probably not worth putting more than 1000 dollars into it.

If you are talking about just the ball, you can buy one for around $20 at Walmart.

Wow. It seems he didn't do much to bring the value up past $400. -

I just watched this episode, I was all excited when I saw it, and how it was kind of promising, until the dude started it up... he was a jerk, too! Gives Z owners a bad name. Although, people like him seem to be a dime a dozen... they think that if you polish a turd long enough it will become gold... except he thought his turd was already golden. -
Help: Need to rent pickup truck with hitch to pickup Z
z2go replied to No6thGear's topic in Non Tech Board
Consider a vehicle transport service, will cost you less time and money to not have to drive a truck cross country WITH a trailer for a couple of days. -
I like the boot idea. That is, if I lived somewhere that people were constantly stealing my vehicles... man, what kind of areas do you guys live in?!?!?

There are some significant differences between the 240 and 280. I want to say that the 240 kit uses less vinyl than the 280, so the 280 kit might work in a 240, but I don't think it will work the other way around.
-
check out Ztherapy's kits, they can get you the right rebuild kit for your application. It's cheaper than sending in the carbs, but you get the same high quality materials plus all the instructions you need, including a video.
-
There's no easy way to do it right. You should get it media blasted to remove the rust and crap paint. That paint job will do you nothing but problems if you try to paint over it. To have it blasted it runs somewhere between 60 and 100 dollars an hour.

Help: Need to rent pickup truck with hitch to pickup Z
z2go replied to No6thGear's topic in Non Tech Board
A lot of places rent trucks... United Rentals, Lowes, Home Depot, U-Haul, etc... They don't use GPS or Big Brother or anything like that to follow where you go in the truck... they check the mileage before you leave, and then after you get back. -
They may very well be the last on earth... I wonder if this guy is trying to be unethical and sell a piece of junk marketed like that, or if he's just plain ignorant...
-
Someone is trying to sell some flattop carbs for $250 on fleabay... I had to laugh, and share with you guys. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/74-78-DATSUN-240Z-260Z-SU-CARBURETORS-DUAL-CARBS-RARE-/310204331044?cmd=ViewItem&pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item48399e7424

This car does have a practical application. In case the Delorian has more problems with the flux capacitor, this Z can stand in temporarily.
-
I'm not sure what that would do... I'm thinking it should at least work for daily driving, but I wonder if you would hit some starvation issues if you pushed it. In any case, if that fixes the problem temporarily, you know where to start! I'm thinking that if the pickup has a hole in it somewhere near the top, You're going to have to get in there and somehow repair the pickup, or or replace it completely...
