  1. the q45 motor would be good i think, trouble is, youre pretty much stuck at its stock hp and tq ratings unless you speak some really good japanese and your kanji reading ability is really good as well. ive heard of aftermarket cams, and other go fast equipment, but if youre thinking v8 and all alloy, theres plenty ls1 motors that would be around the same price and have way more hopup potential, but if youre going original, i guess thats it. i would run it with the auto, since 300zx tt trannies arent a dime a dozen, and use sds to keep things somewhat simple.
  2. man sounds like you really messed it up good. i had a scarab, and didnt miss handling at all, battery in trunk, alum. waterpump and manifold, bushings, kybs, big big sway bars and eibach springs had me major handling something vicious, i had some push, but i think its more the one legger diff than anything, mustve been doing something nuts to spin that car, or driving too far past your limits, z's whip out and come right out of it like a vette on the throttle, just lovely. good luck with your suspension work, i would leave it scarab, believe me, its a lot of money to convert to jtr because of "well, once its out, i might as well" it will end up costing you close to the conversion price. i say get it back rolling and enjoy the ride, address other issues and if you really feel you need that extra handling and space in the engine bay, you go on and you jtr it!
  3. man this topic just wont end man. first post on this thread, anyone run an third brake lite thats mounted in the car like from around where the dome lite is, that would be like my sole mod to the liting besides some h4s, i really think japan was on the ball with the s30, and dont really want to change the look, but i will change the speed.
  4. you can either have the halfshafts modded to use 1310s, or you can have the vette halfshafts shortened and rewelded to fit z flanges with mods for the four bolt flange to work, i believe any driveline shop could do it, but it wouldnt be cheap. i think halfshafts are plenty strong for a tough street car, but yeah they can prove to be the weak link when you start putting the power down.

    Comparing Cars

mustangs, camaros, and vetttes have a high entry price, but i think a vette modded with same things a z has will outhandle it, but will need more motor to deal with power to weight, i think vettes take the power easier and better than a z chassis will without mods, they were set up for sbcs and some setup for bbc's but they cost outrageous for burnt out examples, and you gotta be pretty up on the greenbacks to get one cherry-but those vettes, i tell you if i could i would do a vette, full framed irs with a crazy cage, and no roof baby, but thats about 10-15 for an ok vette or pre-73 age and about 8-10k for the parts IF i do it myself. expensive either way look at the situation. my next car probably gonna be either a chevy2 or a skylarkGNX.....

    sds 3 system?

im checking out this guys used setup its a version of sds that doesnt run the coil packs, it uses a distributor still, im wondering how can i still run distributor if i go with it, im using eccs and timing is ecu controlled, hes asking a fair price i think but how im gonna use the distributor is a mystery to me, would i have to go to na zx distributor and manually do timing, im not scared of that one, but i like how the computer keeps things in check pretty good, besides lack of spark control and timnig by ecu, its the same setup i believe as most of the sds guys out there, what you guys think?
  7. at least he did up a v8 mustang, over did one yeah, but at least he got the 8
  8. another lame one, the pin connector for the ignition switch was loose, so it would give intermittant starting and loosened up the part that goes power to coil, i just messed with the pin, cleaned it, and boom on my way again. thanx though,-iu went for the relays first, i keep a lot in the center console just in case.
  9. be careful with ecu swapping, you can blow up the ecu like that.
  10. you can heli coil it, or tap it for new threads, if the trans is out of car, i would tap for new threads, if still on car, heli coil it will hold for you
  11. you may have burned out a fusible link,, also check the fuse box.
  12. need to change some internals on ecu to get it to work right. maf is pretty simple swap.
  13. im not into mustangs too much, you know i think to make ten seconds in any car youre gonna spend a lot of money, so much i dont think it matters what you start with, but to get nice 12-13 second cars its real easy to get that with a mustang, and youre not a good commuter in the civic. cmon now, 10 is real fast, i mean real fast. i had a civic cx dohc before, but i remember when it had the stock motor, i would get 58 mpg, with the dohc, i got around 35, back then i was really upset if you can believe that. my 85 mr2-half a tank would get me 146 miles! half a tank is three and some odd gallons.....
  14. ok heres what happened, i went to school right, nigth class, came back to my car at about 10pm, and it would not kick over? im like WTF? drove this car 700 miles this week. turns out no spark to the coil, so i jumped the coil and it fired right up and promptly drove him, im wondering what could cause something like this, i mean when it starts it runs fine and ran completely fine to that point, im looking at the igniter right now, anyone have an educated guess as to whats causing this?
  15. does that mean i cant call my car twin turbo if i run one of those?
  16. my old v8 car was a kick in the paints, man it was great. but im in love with turbos, the attention you get in a v8 was great, i do remember popping the hood evertime i came into a gas station, but i just fell in love with this turbo stuff, i do it again, its gonna be a factory turbo motor with more boost, a 2jz or 7mgte,but not an rb26-kragen dont likem. if i were to do a v8 again it would be a four barrell hollied 355 with a big shot, and "suprise" a four speed manual, that trans put me on top and its the only manual you can see me use.
  17. god i would be so mad if i had to drop the trans to adjust that thing. really mad.
  18. maybe it will prompt him to put some go fast in his car, maybe thats why they only charged him 500.00 for the install, cuz he'll be back, that wasnt even my old v8 car, i coulda grandma shifted away from him.
  19. went to jy today and grabbed 78 tach, heard its different and easier to hook up then early tack to turbo setup? anyways its got two wires, one green and one black, i assume black is for ground right? where do i run the other wire, i have to run rpm sensing wires direct because of slashed and spliced out harness, tach light and turn signals i can run to stock harness, anyone with a factory manual out there can help me out??????
  20. the best one i do in the wet is this. i get rolling in first, then floor it, when boost hits, the car gets sideways into the next lane, just like my v8 car would, its bad ass. you do have to watch out around corners, especially on some 15x6.5 wheels liek me that are bald all the time in the rear my car washes out the front tires if i try to drift a turn with these 205/60/15s im runing, i like it it goes wide around corners, i dont think i dog the turbo car hard enough to figure out handling yet, but once i go IC, oh buddy.

    pimped exhaust

for a while i didnt realize that this forum wasnt majorily comprised of college aged students, plus i wanted to see how many of you guys were bay area type figgas, specifically San Francisco, USA, type cats. if you were from the town you would know exactly where im coming from from those old posts of mine, but like i said before i got moderated on so i backed it up and went back to my college level venacular. i dont know if this post is about respect your elders, i thought it was about making your z car with a v8 motor sound rea lly well, Like a V8? i say a big three inch pipe with no muffler would do it. ran open header for three days until i made myself get pipes, too dang loud and nothing would try to race me, man i sounded like a movie. if you guys want to be on elder status thats fine with me, but id rather just call you buddy.
  22. i used rainx before its good stuff, but what i found even more effective was replacing the wipers with the bosch wipers vs. the cheapos, and they work even better, but thhis is on a 280, which has a little faster wipers i think, 240s have real slow ones and i used both rain x and new wipers, and it was OK.
