where would you get a built auto for the rb26?
-
i have that same intercooler in the garage, ive heard they dont flow that well from people, but with a t3 i think you will have more than enough cfm. i tired to fit it to a z, no way no how will that thing fit in there without some serious mods, its way bigger than the radiator from every demension. what size piping are you gonna go with, if you go 3" from the inlets you will notice the lag with your t3, 2.5 inch or so should be good, or go with 3"-AND DUMP IT!

Toyota caliper swap clearence issues...
fl327 replied to ToplessZ's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
how does the pedal feel to you? i thought it was fine, but my buddy kept insisting my brakes engaged too low, so i went with the 79 280zx mc, which is a little bigger and stiffened the pedal right back up like stock, but before it was weird the pedal would have the slightest amound of freeplay before i could feel brakes, when i do the swap again im not going to swap mc's, didnt notice it really in braking power. make sure you bled the system really well and maybe the master too, and check brake lines. -
jcr kit is really up there, fabbing a charger up would be cheaper definitely, they are always going for cheap on ebay, turbo motor came like that from the factory, and its easily exploited for hp gains. the supercharger l6 is pretty rare, jcr doesnt make it anymore and im not sure how long they really ever had them for. they would be nice though, ive heard that they sound like motorcycles. turbo over blower for me on an L motor, now a BBC is a different story.

i would just save up and spring for the whole drivetrain, you would be better off in the long end because you would have a better setup if you did the whole thing at once. i dont know how much boost the stock pistons and na injectors can take either.

i absolutely need video for this one

sounds like timing is retarded or maybe the firing order is off, just suggestions, sorry cant be there in the flesh.

i carry a first aid kit with those space snacks, a griot unfolding sack with a set of 1/4 metric sockets, a 10mm flare wrench, some ripties, that stuff that you can tie up hoses with, some wire, crimpers, posi locks, flares, tire inflator, a multi meter and a test light, an extra belt, a screwdriver with the pull out bits that work well on hose clamps, and some rtv. fuses, always have extra fuses.

dale, that area is more western addition, where this happened is right on haight street and fillmore. harputs is still around, they got bought out by a russian family. they still have that hot sh#t, but they want a lot of money for it, but they have those euro lookin shoes that are pretty sambostic.

thats a gasket or something im sure, nothing major, if the rest of the car is ok im sure a little elbow grease will cure that issue pretty quick.
-
flip the diff mount the other way, it should work, you are using the x member from the car you got the diff from right?
-
you might have just overfilled it, causing foam and slippy shifting, if its not that it could be the governer, just pull it out and put it back in, and if its not that could be the bands slipping, and that sucks.

just started school today. oh boy. had to lift that trans in, had to boost to school or i wouldnt feel right.
-
from reading nions post about the same thing, imma check out my slave cylinder, they are cheap enough to replace if questionable, and it sounds like the problem. i just popped another trans in last night and everything looked ok, im gonna try hydraulics tonite.

not a racing story i promised no racing until i can get under this bad boy and do mustachebar bushings and a diff mount, but man driving this car around town is a complete joy. at 3k cruising i start making this jet turbine noise, heads a turning everywhere. the other night someguy was like "hey you trying to sell it?" and i said "sure" he said "is it a 240?" (my car has 240z bumpers) and i said no, he was like, how can get that much money for that ( i gave him an outrageous price, really not going to sell this car just yet) and i said "this is why" spooled that turbo up, man its weird, its nnot like my v8 car where you rev it and dump it, i have to pump it up until i start reading close to 0hg, and then pump and dump it, man you would have swore that the car had a v8 (except for the lovely turbine sound) gave that poor guy fifty feet of two legger and barked second, ah just like old times. this was in the Fillmore district deep in the heart of the getlow, right off of haight street, wonder if he thinks i was asking too much now

trans doesnt like to shift, clunky, but it will shift. when im rolling, it shifts ok, but clunky, from a stop sometimes i have to pump the clutch twice to put it into first, and putting it into reverse always clunks. hydraulics are bled. just put another trans in this car last night and throwout is good, fork is seated. im wondering if its an internal hydraulics issue, like an internal leak in the master or the slave is starting to go out?

oh man i need an intercooler. beat a 5.0 my first race, and i dont even know how to drive this car yet, but i love it. from a roll my car is pretty tough, the little bitty t3 spools very fast 3-6.5k, a pure kick in the pants to drive for sure.
-
the turbo motor is pretty bad ass from what im experiencing. im on my second na280zx trans cuz of my own dumb self. its very tough trans, the t5 1st gear i heard is too low, and its harder to install, while the zx trans bolts right in, or if your car is a five speed already that trans is gravy as well. just get it to run, and make it fly later, swap is easy, its just like dropping in a replacement motor with alot of wiring, but you really only need to wire like four things and that sucker will start for you, and man its fun. oh man.
-
you prepared yours for the swap more than the next man, and your z is not a typical v8 swap, cmon man. im sure your car is a good driver and an excellent example of a v8z car, as petes car is, but i think most fall short of those marks by varying degrees. im sure its possible, but mine never drive the way i wanted it to, im not saying its impossible, but its harder than dropping an sbc into the engine bay, you have to do more than that and its obvious the first time you hit the gas. now show me.

a good v8 package meaning a car that drives well, is fast and handles well is pretty hard to achieve, you can get two out of the three pretty easy but i think the drivability is the hardest part, a total driver out a v8 car is pretty hard to do. suspension is bolt on, motor swap is fairly easy, but get in the car and you will notice that its off if you havent addressed frame, insulation, and many other little things that will get on your nerves if you drive it every day. the drivability is what killed me about my v8z, just did not like cruising, only liked bruising. i did all the suspension, brakes, dynamatted the entire interior and tuned that dog something serious, you know what, still wasnt happy. at the end of my project i felt that there was nothing i could do further then go from scarab to jtr, which is almost as expensive as doing the swap again due to the domino effect of, "well the motors out, i might as well....." so you know what i did, i got out of that car, and dropped a 2.95cc turbo motor and trans into my other driver, and im loving every mile. thats my experience, and after almost four years and 45k of driving and building a v8z, im happier with the turbo motor, mucb happier than i ever was with the drivability of my v8z. to do it right, it must be thought out and many things that dont really come into play into a stock z car come into play with a swapped out car, things you dont think of when changing a drivetain, and must be addressed to truly have a DRIVER, its pretty easy to make a street brawler, but lots of driving comes with its own pricetag.

its ok, picked up a really nice trans and did the dang thing last night, works good.
-
So...who will be the first to attempt the 350z motor swap?
fl327 replied to ratedZ's topic in Non Tech Board
not me. must be stock turbo motor, must be. -
im pretty burnt out on going super fast and street racing, im making me a nice car, that will do good at the track and drive home and to work and school nicely. thats my revised intention.
-
man you guys are nuts, seems like you guys have a lot more points before liscence go bye bye , but you rack up em faster for any type of offense, in california i think its 7pts in a year and your lisence gets suspended, and generally you lose points only in moving violation, a seatbelt ticket is like 35.00 fine and so forth.

the big cam companies make a performance cam for tpi motors, theres not much choice there, i would pick the hairiest one that will work just because we tryin to go racin right? tpi wont be able to handle too much cam, is it a roller cam year or no? either way they cant handle too much cam, drives tpi crazy. honestly, i wouldnt do a whole lot to the tpi motor maybe a cam-but to get some bang out of it i would pack the crap out of that trans, kit it up and let the rubber fly. i used to have a 305 firebird, it was crap, but it had posi.
