fl327 - it runs very inconsistantly, and sometimes things just don't work one minute and do the next. Also, it's kind of disconserting when you're driving and all of the sudden a loose hot wire grounds out, makes a big flash, and toasts a section of itself. So I definitely have to fix it, and that's going to be...involved. 1975yellowbspz - I'll be on the lookout. Thanks.

Very funny Garrett - no more passengers! Ever. That is the rule. I will be driving the silver car if I can't get the black car running in time. I have been driving the hell out of it every day...I've noticed that since I got a turbo car I really really abuse the NA car, and go pretty easy on the turbo car. What is your friend's name?

Thanks Jon...I am definitely going to rewire everything. Before I install Megasquirt though, I have to figure out what is up with the ignition. There's MSD 6A, the J&S ignition controller, and the Z31 ECU. I have to see what is driving what, and it is intimidating to see 3 or 4 wires spliced together...whew.

Well, I wanted to take care of the electrical gremelins before the TLAC (biggest autocross of the year) so I pulled off the steering wheel column to get a handle on the situation. Dear lord... http://members.cox.net/forrestosterman/wiring/ Notes - everywhere you see a wirenut, there were previously 2 loose wires taped together....and I ran out of wirenuts. That white plug hanging down with one of the wires removed and every other electrical connection spliced into is my ignition plug. The other one is a plug to a J&S Safeguard ignition control. Several of the hot wires from the ignition are run to tiny gauge wiring and then out to large gauge wires again. Who needs fuses when half your wiring is fusible links? And the there were loose hot wires hooked up to the maplight power, and the tach is powered from the hazard light switch. I have a lot of fun nights ahead of me. Wish me luck - I still have a lot of questions for the P.O. but he's been offline for a month, so it looks like I am on my own.

You got that right. Man, when I picked up my first Z for 3000$ I never dreamed I would be spending this much. I wanted an old sports car that was easy to work on, and had decent performance. I wasn't planning on doing any of this. I remembered telling the guy I still hold partially responsible for my current mess, "xxxx$ for xxxx! No way! I guess I'll be staying stock!" Yeah, right. That resolution lasted about 15 minutes. I keep a spreadsheet for all expenses and parts I remember to write down - it is really scary. I looked at my total last night and I have over 20k in my cars. I have no idea how that happened - seriously. It was a few hundred at a time...I don't have anywhere near that kind of spending money available. (ok, I still owe a lot in loans on the latest addition but hey, it was a deal I couldn't pass up - ask anyone who's seen it. ) The sad thing is - neither of them is close to done.

When the zombies attack, I'll take 1 texan over 100 disarmed Kalifornians. (It would be hard to pass up more than 100 - I could use them as bait.) -Forrest (prepared for the zombie invasion)

I have seen this happen on many cars, one of which was mine (non Z). I am not sure that this is what happened to you, but what happened to me and several other people I know was the mechanic who worked on my car put the coolant hose on backwards. The correct way it doesn't rub and backwards it does. That was the day I decided to that I really needed to get a car that was easy to work on, and one that I would actually want to work on, and never let another "professional" touch my car again. 3 weeks later I bought my first s30.

Hey guys, I noticed the Tail of the Dragon Z event wasn't on the calendar so I tried to add it. I went to the FAQ and it says any registered member can add. However, when I tried to follow the directions, I couldn't locate the "+" sign they mention. Am I blind or is this feature not available to everyone as the FAQ indicates? Thanks, -Forrest

Make sure and ask if they have a lifetime warranty.

Best thing about DTV is the neat way they've decided to store all the programming control for their units - on ISO 7816 cards.

Tim, have you put a clearcoat on your license plate? I hear they're relabeling clearcoat-in-a-can and calling it a super special secret formula for making sure your plate is overexposed on camera. If I had to worry about the Nazis over there I would give it a shot.

Lockjaw, HI-FIVE! Mine is here as well, and it's really nice. I can't wait to install it. Thanks again to the guy who helped us out.

What happened to all the spindle pullers?
Forrest replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hey guys, there really needs to be a more organized list, instead of someone just posting "I need one" on a thread. That doesn't tell us if they've gotten it, what order they should be sent out in, etc. I was the LAST person to get a puller. As soon as I got it, I used it on one of my cars. Since it has taken me so long to get to the point where I could use it on my other car, I'm ready to send mine on now. In my opinion there needs to be 1 person in charge of managing a waiting list. That person is who you should coordinate with when you receive a puller and are ready to send it out. Since there is no reason that the person good enough to spend time making these should also have to manage them, I will glady volunteer to do it, if I have his blessing. Just say the word, Dave. -
Moby, doesn't MS convert the signal and still use it as a narrowband currently? (They need to hurry up with UMS !

Where can I get 15x8 or 16x8 wheels?
Forrest replied to Turbo280Zcar's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I'd like to get a set of lightweight 16x8's in 0 offset as well. Tire rack has nothing in our size. It looks like it will have to be custom, which I can't afford right now. Let me know if you find anything. -
You can get a title bond in MS with only a bill of sale. It is like 100$. That's probably the easiest thing to do.

Project Is Picking Up Decisions Decisions
Forrest replied to EvilRufusKay's topic in Miscellaneous Tech
If you're taking that all the way down to the metal, save that 2k for primer, paint, stripper, paper towels, gloves, masks, scotchbrite, metal prep, superclean...you're probably going to be out of money before you have really gotten started. Good luck. -
I congratulate that guy on all his effort to keep himself out of the breeding pool. Bravo! More ladies for me!

Not sure how I missed this thread. Holy crap quaifes have gone up a lot. If you buy one straight from a dealer without the install it used to be around 1100$ for the cheapest place I could find. MSA wanted 1260$ (tha'ts - 140$ discount) + shipping. Then you have to find someone to put it in. It was defintiely worth it to me to go through Ross and have it done by a professional with lots of quaife expereince. You won't believe the difference with a Quaife! It is amazing, no matter what speed you're going, you can feel it around the corners. There is no harsh engagement since it is cosntantly biasing torque. I wouldn't trade it for anything - and just remember with a clutch type you have to rebuild after heavy use. The japanese exhibition racers who drive every day have to have theirs rebuilt every month. Get whatever you can afford now but save up for a Quaife! -Forrest (ps where's my endorsement deal?)

DO A SEARCH! Hahahahaha, I finally got to say it. Well, do one next time, I already posted the instructions here: http://hybridz.org/nuke/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=29121&highlight=free

Definitely buy your car back to part out - and definitely get an s30 to drop an engine into.

Hey guys - is the garage feature a phpBB addon? It is pretty entertaining feature. They are using it at http://www.350z-tech.com if you'd like to take a look. If it's not a pain to add, I think it'd be pretty nifty. -Forrest PS Any updates on the search for a timeslip DB?

Kevin - I was about to make that same post, you saved me the time. When you get pissed, whatever else you do, make sure you buy a few more cases of .223 or .308, whatever suits you. Doesn't hurt to get a few extra spare mags, too.
