  1. Everything I say isn't going to be accepted so I am not even going to try. Nuff said.
  2. I am quite surprized at the price on a cast part. I made my brackets out of 6061 aluminum, fully machined, and only spent 200 on both. Super glad I did that instead of wasted money on a cast bracket! Mine are probably stronger too.
  3. To be honest. By the way your talking I would just sell the z. It sounds like you already know you are going to sell it so just sell it. Project cars car call project cars because things like this happen. I had my z running, an injector line sprayed gas on the exhaust. Lit of fire, fried some electronics. Now I am going Mega Squirt because of it. My rear end still isn't in the car. I still don't have brakes. This car was supposed to be straight from 280z parts onto the 240z and drive it. It was supposed to take 2 months when I first got it. Its now working closer and closer to being a year.
  4. I am going to be replacing the tie rods. I didn't say it had horrid handling, Its just eh. I think you guys are missing the point here. I was asking experience with the cars. Some of you are actually starting to flame on me for "expecting to much" or something along those lines. I don't want/need a full built daily. KA-T is obviously the easy way to gain some power while staying cheap.
  5. FAILZ! LOL. KA-T builds are fairly cheap. The biggest problem is fuel management. In the rain the car feels to snappy at the rear end it want to come around to quick. That is why I think the car would benefit from not having power steering. I can get it to hold sideways even in the dry and it does a smokey one tire fire drift. I had considered welding the diff but seeing as how its the daily driver, that seems like a bad idea. It seems I just have my hopes to high or my car isn't running properly? My car doesn't really feel peppy at all. I would almost rename my car slow40sx. Now I have had the car up to 110mph before. It feels more planted and solid than the s30 does at 100.
  6. I think that isn't a bad idea. I need to get the car back on a lift and check out the front end. I need to tackle the strut tower and soon. Its one of those jobs where I am going to have to take the strut out of the way. Then get all of the extra crap inside the engine bay off. Clamp it all right and patch it up. If I was to do a VG30et swap I would just find a cleaner chassis because I know I can compared to what you find with z's. There are still 240sx's that people actually have taken care of.
  7. Its almost as if that bracket isn't sitting flush. Are you sure those are MM brackets? They look cast. MM brackets were machined I though? Sorry I had to ask. Do they set the caliper 45 degrees from the strut tube or 90 degrees?
  8. Well, I don't want SR20. It seems good-ish, but bandwagon. I liked the 240sx because it looks decent when cleaned up. Mine in no way is like driving a z. You can't feel the steering like a z. I was considering ridding of the power steering and the clutch fan. The car actually has 2 fans, an electric and a clutch. I don't know why or if both are needed? My car has some crappy rice boy home grown 2 1/2 exhaust with a 20 dollar cherry bomb muffler. I figure it is good for about -30hp or so! The muffler actually seems to really restrict the exhaust past 3k. Thanks for the input guys. Everything is helpful. For some reason I have a nissan problem. I really like Nissans and Subarus. I just want to liven the car up a bit. Maybe a LSD would help? One thing I can say is factory 240sx brakes are amazing. You can really get at them. 100-0 almost hurts if you really stand on the brakes.
  9. I will get some pictures with the zx caliper on it tomorrow. I have not yet got 240sx caliper for me. I will show you why you need 240sx calipers as well. (Tried 300zx rotors, they are to tall for my brackets with the 240sx calipers.)
  10. Have you tried 240sx rotors or 280zx rotors? My brackets (custom made for me) were supposed to be for 280zx calipers and rotors. As per info from this site. I machined them and found them to fit 240sx calipers with 280zx rotors.
  11. Hey guys, I own a 240sx as a daily driver. It is a 1990 with a 91-94 twin cam KA24DE swapped in. Its a 5 speed with an open differential (pre 1991 cars did not have LSD). It is an SE so it has all the power windows and locks. I find the car extremely boring to drive. It seems very under powered. It handles alright but I have either bad tie rods or ball joints. Also my drivers side strut tower has rusted and is pretty mess up. I think maybe a cleaner chassis would handle better. I also have KYB GR2 struts on the car, came with it. The car is pretty reliable, only had one issue, water pump blew. I knew it was on its way out I should have replaced it but I neglected. Replaced it no issues since. I was wondering if anybody else here owned a 240sx? Whether it is a daily driver or a track car. I want to know how many own one. Maybe I am not crazy here and it is a boring car? Maybe something about my car is making it slow and boring. I think the KA24 is just an under powered engine when stock for the most part. I say this like I am not sure. If you own one tell me your experience. Maybe you have driven one? Go ahead and pitch in. I want to know what others think of the car. Maybe how an SR swap changes the car. As for plans with the car. I would like to find a different 240sx. I would like to VG30et swap it. This swap should be fairly straight forward as you can use S12 200sx VG30e mounts. It would be a bolt in swap from my understanding. I figure MS and a drive shaft and you could have a VG30et 240sx. Let the discussion commence.
  12. Well. If I need something larger I borrow my dads 03 Cummins dually. Otherwise a hatch back 240sx can fit quite a few large parts. Especially with no rear seat.
  13. I think you can order them to be a bolt on but I am not 100% sure. For some reason I can't remember which member on here is the Beta Motorsports guy. When I get the name I will look. As far as I am concerned they are pin on and you can order them to be bolt on. Just do not quote me on this. I will look into it.
  14. I don't care if you like it bare. By all means keep it bare. I seem to have a problem with the way I come across. I think part of it is the not actually seeing my body language and the fact that its the interwebz. I was mostly stating my opinion. I think a car that has many carbon parts unpainted, then the rest of the car a different color it doesn't look very good. Honestly though, if your building a race car, who cares what it looks like. If you want all this carbon stuff to actually do what it is made to do, save weight. Then you are probably building a race car of some sort. Price to weight gain wise, there are many other things that can be done to drop the same weight for less a price. Just my opinion, I don't mean to put anybody down or ruffle feathers. My panties are not in a bunch, It gets rather uncomfortable when they get that way. I try to keep them straight. Any progress on the parts or sure ideas of maybe some small parts that are going to get made? For looks I got a sweet one, carbon shift knob!
  15. I'm 17 and really have nobody that cares a damn thing about cars like I do. There was a kid that would help me but he ended up moving away. He was stupid anyway though. Had no idea what he was really doing.
  16. The drivers Education is a big issue. I see the larger issue riding with kids who are ignorant. They know they shouldn't text and drive and they don't pay attention. I was rear ended by a 15 year old girl, with no insurance, or license, driving her brothers car. It totaled my 1972 BMW 2002. Complete rust free car, not a joke, not one spot on the car. No bondo or any of that crap. I took my driving test in the same place as Justin (240z8) although I had teh coach instructor. Most of what I learned, came from my parents, I knew more than what he taught in that class. My driving test was litterally. Go around the block. I was never really shown how to parallel park, however I can and have done it, more than once. There are to many people on the road. Majority of them should not be on the road. I am 17 years old, I understand I am not a professional driver. I am not anywhere close to one. I have very limited experience and I need to take precautions. This is where many kids go wrong. They say "I'm a better driver than all of these people". To be honest, my brother is a fantastic example. He got stopped twice in 2 months. Speeding and failure to yeild to a pedestiran. He doesn't pay enough attention when he is driving. He claims he is a better driver than most. He really truely thinks he has control of the car more than what he does. I do not like riding with him becasue he constantly has near misses, braking distance for him is to short as well. I think we should make people take a confidence test before they get their license. Put bias questions on it, that way you can tell who is going to be 'that' person. That way we don't give licenses to the people that are over confident and will drive like they are the best and nobody around them matters.
  17. To put them on a windshield you have to make cuts in between each of the letters and curve them yourself as you put it on to where you like it. I would recommend soapy water with a scraper and a hair dryer, as well as a needle. Basically. Clean the glass really well with something that isn't going to leave a residue. Then spray it down with the soapy water to get the vinyl floating. Get the letters where you want them and press the water out from under them. Use the hair dryer to make sure you get it all dry and pop any of the bubbles with a needle and flatten them out.
  18. It would be cool, but to be honest, is it worth it? Money wise what you spend on a transmission and building the L28, you could probably get the same thing, power, usablility, t56, everything. From a different engine, such as an LS1, for much cheaper. Its a really cool idea, I am just trying to think real about it. I was going to do a 1uz swap becasue a 1uz is super cheap and makes good power. Then I was looking for what it cost to put a 5 speed on it. 1500 dollars for a cast bell housing is not something that makes it worth it to put a 300 dollar 1uz into a 240z. Like I said, super cool but I am just trying to think real here.
  19. I have gone over it. If I keep replacing stuff going down the line. I am just going to rack up the $$ for mega squirt in used 70's junk. Its expensive relay after expensive relay and the AFM and crap. The way I found out the first relay was bad was going through the FSM. I don't have this FI bible or whatever. My fuel pump isn't kicking out, which I believe is some home linked to the AFM? Then my injectors are not pulsing. I am not going to lie, I would have no idea what I was doing with the Stand alone, but does it look like I have known what I was doing through this entire project? It is how I learn. I may go through it a few more times but I find it being a compared to having a brand new wiring harness all clean and labeled. I would know where everything is and it wouldn't be a horrid nissan harness. Not sure if you ever had a nissan harness apart but they spice crap like hack job style.
  20. Relay did not fix my issues. I am going to stop screwing around and get Mega-squirt now. I still have absolutely no idea what I am doing but hey, when I go turbo it will be much easier. I am trying to decided if I want an assembled or un-assembled kit. The price difference is really huge, I can't afford it either way so I am just going to have to figure it out though. This car is getting nowhere really fast. It would not surprise me if by the time I actually drive the car, it is turbo. I really need to just take a break from it as it is beginning to get in the way of school. I don't have time for life at the moment. Working 6 days a week, as well as going to school, basically high school AND college at the same time. Things get crazy rather fast. One way or another I will get this car driving. I am probably going to start ripping the factory FI harness out soon. No need for it anymore I guess. Just going to be in the way. I really shouldn't have bought those wheels either.
  21. My day officially got better. FlatBlack races his can in SCCA auto-x. I am sure he knows more about what your trying to talk about than you do.
  22. Really? I wanna see you do half the things he did. Ready.. Set... Go....
  23. I asked a question. You gave me an answer. Sorry I peed in your cheerios.
