Pontiac GTO LS2 - what needs changing please ?
ULISES replied to ZHeadV8's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I too bought my engine from Schram,They are a nice company to deal with.I bought the first LS2 they sold so phone calls had to be made to get most of the parts needed to complete the swap. We were also told to add a throttle cable intead of the drive by wire.At the end it turned out easier adding the d b w than adding a cable.. on the oil pan you need the camaro pan, pick up,tray and dip stick. you also need a camaro motor mount if your using jci's kits,I cant recal wich one it is. -
We are talking about Ford Festiva's,They were build by Kia/Mazda.Same as the Mercury capri. This is the reason this swap is so easy after making the mounts,Axles bolt to the stock hubs. Also Mazda 323 gt/gtx from the late 80's have the same engine as the capri. The gt has a fwd tranny and can me use.Gtx is a all wheel drive. We can upgrade the the brakes useing a Ford aspire as a donor. This will change your bolt pattern from 4 114.3 to a 4 100,More wheels to choose from and incredible stopping difference.Im currently in the process of this swap.I'm done with the front and should start the rear this week. Check out http://www.fordfestiva.com for further info.......

Davy, you have two options on this build,If you want a daily driver and do not plan on beating it much, you could swap just the engine mated to the stock Festiva transmission and still get over 35 mpg. This won't let you enjoy your hp 100% you might go through tranny's every once in a while,If you have the lead foot.I think automatic's can take a little more beating... If you go with the second option wich is to swap the complete engine/tranny from the capri. You won't get much mpg due to the gearing on this tranny.I get about 22 mpg...If you keep it stock you might get away with a little more but I would say you would never see 30 mpg. Going with the secon option, you are reaquired to make all of your mounts due to the transmission,It makes you engine sit @ a different position by pushing it forward. If you go with the stock festiva tranny you need only the engine mount and you need to trim your transmission to clear the performance clutch.Anyways the fun part of the swap is to get the full drivetrain in there.I would never use that engine with the stock transmission. By Cheap I mean,I could build a copy of my car for about max 3500,this is a car that will turn high 12's... If you ever want to go with this swap,I will provide all the info you need to get her done,I could have my mounts off or can make some for you @ my cost..I believe I have one of the strongest set of mounts..One other guy claims to have the same setup but he has never posted pictures or prove.I'm running a total of 4 mounts. Most run 3 only...... Capri's are rare cars so when you buy the whole car you end up with a almost free drivetrain,I payed $150 for my first one,After selling some parts on ebay........I have bought two more engine's trans one for 350 and a complete project including a festiva for 450.......

Mine climbs to 1.2 bars, the b6t stock turbo doesnt do anything after 16lbs of boost, itll just blow hot air wich is not good or making power......I have everything needed to start the second one(soon),they are too fun and cheap to build, since im upgrading the current festy, its getting a new turbo, injector, downpipe, intercooler and using a engine managment.i'm not going to daily drive it anymore.....one other thing is that its going to have stickers of two local company's,they are sponsoring on the new setup.....

Too bad,He should of finished it before getting on it..I have always put 104 octane when racing @ the track, that ECU is not the best une for the car.My car gets overboost too.. have a shell if you were closer you could have it free....

I drive the 680 from Fremont to San Jose or the other way around.I see this process every new year. This year its been longer though,Good thing I dont speed......

Nice Vids,Its hard to get used to the torquesteer @ first.Be carefull,There is a guy in Sacramento that just wrecked he's Turbo Festiva. We had this same problem when my car came out of the shop.Time is key get to know any car you drive first and then after you become one with it well you know what to do... Davy,I work in Fremont and drive my car to work every day.If you want to check it out let me know,I get lots of time out @ work.....My price was vary high due to me using a shop, plus there was not enough info when I did mine,Festiva's are becoming popular now..I have recently bought a project from one of the local members and I payed $400 for the festiva and all parts needed for the swap minus motor mounts wich I could have made for cheap.I dont like the shell so I'm currently looking for another.I figured to duplicate the swap with less than 3k using the same parts. The white festiva is getting a turbo upgrade soon so I'll have many parts to use with my next one..... And yes this is a fun car... LS swap is more powerful, more driveable than L6!
ULISES replied to m1noel's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
I'm glad to hear, you are enjoying your Z. I never weight the Z before the swap,I know I got rid of lots of weight removing the bumpers and other misc. I have no carpet or stereo on my car now,I'm going to add dynamat for road noise reduction,Roll Cage, carpet and a nice stereo sytem.....The car now weights 2,640 Lbs. with a little over half a tank. If I end up with around 2850 with a cage and full interior,I will be more than happy.....I still have room for power to compensate for the weight being added.... -

I told you Joey,Let take the cars to a same dyno....We are asking ourselfs what would cause this times too. I just weigh my car and it was 2640 lbs. with a little over half tank.I'm guessing the race weight was around 2625 considering there was less than half a tank.Mike should weigh more than you,so you would have to come up with the weight difference there. What I don't understand is the you are making the power to replace the weight,All I can think is the gearing on the tranny's,But there is no tach to make this a acurate difference. One other thing would be the front air dam,but I don't know if it would make that much of a difference. Looking forward on that quote on the cage,I like the idea of getting both cars in there for the disscount,if we get any..... Sergio R. -

Guys, I have all my mods listed..Maybe you guys were getting stock LS2's Intead of 402 Stroker's? Mike did all the parts installation on my engine,I ask myself if he gave me one of he's old cam's.....lol....Ask him not me.. I have video of the Festiva,I will upload today after work! n1noel,I feel good how my is turning out overall. If you want something done right you have to loose some wallet weight,I'm close to where I want to be but,I have not met my goal yet....The car still needs work.. -

Final tune has been done,It was on a different dyno though. The last numbers are listed on my signature. The reason for posting the base dynograph,Is cause the other one is less visible...It was printed in half page...... -

Sorry if you missunderstud my answer,I know what you were trying to say.I just wish there was a 9 second out of the car how it sits but unfortunately thats not going to be possible.I too belive the trap is on the high side for the few mods I have wich are in my signature,Only things not listed are the ported intake and throttle body. On the basetune dynochart,I would post the last one but the view is way better in this one. This will give you an idea of my low and top end.The low end is great too. By the way Happy B-day!!! -

I raced on my festiva,I have no 1/4 time...So im going to practice,I didn't run my Z,Mike and my brother did.The first 11.2 pass got a warning from the nhra guys.So my brother was just making 1/8 miles or third gear passes.@ the end Mike got to go like 4 time without any problems....I runned a best of 13@107 on my festiva, mike and my brother got 13's aswell. The car wasn't running as good as the last time.......It was a fun day overall.. Tach is not working properly,It still jumps all over the place when in full throttle.otherwise it does work... -
