  1. This reminds me of a story I heard.. "darwin awards' or something.. Apparently, this guy got a hold of a 'solid rocket booster' from a local air force base. This is a rocket they use to 'help' heavy aircraft get up to speed on take off (don't know what the aircraft are called... big transports of some sort) Now, somehow this fool straped/welded/otherwise attached this rocket to his car... a 67 impala or something. The thing is, once these rockets are ignited, they go to full thrust and STAY there till they run dry. So mr 'rocket man' found a straight stretch of road, got up to about 60 MPH and somehow fired/ignited this rocket. Here is what investigators found the next day: A huge black/melted section of pavement.... then about 1/2 mile away, two black marks for about 1/4 mile (from the drivers attempt to apply the brakes and melting them) and then scrape marks (from the tires exploding and the wheels/undercariage scraping down the road) then more melted pavement, and then nothing. Until 2 miles away, 200 feet UP a steep mountain side, a black crater. The bigest peice of the car they could find was a piece of the stearing wheel (they think!) with the bigest piece of the driver (tooth fragment) loged in it. They figure this guy went from 60 MPH to about 700 MPH in something like 3 seconds, and 'trying to apply the brakes' was the last thing he was able to do. At that point he bacame airborn and was probably unconsious for the remaining 2 minits of his life. I am juat amazed the car stayed intact enough to impact the mountain 3 miles away! Wow... this got really long.. but I figured it sort of fit in with this post...
  2. Ok... is my sig still too big?
  3. Cool man... too bad it's winter now!
  4. Junk eh? Funny how millions of ski-doo's and bikes have used Mikunis for year's and years! Usually ppl who say carbs are 'junk' just don't understand how to tune them. Mind you 3 carbs are a chore to tune/syncronise... and it's getting hard these days to find a person who knows what rhey are doing..
  5. Well, I'll have to get some weight numbers from somewhere, but I'm sure the weight gain wouldn't be more than a comparable V8 swap. And I would only be running the alternator,(no power steering or a/c) and moving the battery to the rear. As for the engon height, I'm waiting for 'Mack' to get back to me with some measurments but I wouldn't be oposed to a slight 'cowl' hood mod for the extra clearance. For fuel delivery, I am not sure yet. Depends what's on the engine I get I supose.. if it's an old carb engine, I'll go with the carbs for starters and upgrade to FI later (after the swap is done and drivable) But I would like to try a megasquirt FI system eventually.
  6. Hey Glenn (or anyone else that knows..) Does the Jag 4.0 I6 use a distributor or an electronic/distrubutorless ignition system?
  7. Actually, I put the drill there, as well as the grill. Had to drill out the screws to get it off. The rest is pretty much "as it was" when I got her..
  8. Dang.. that was a good list... You forgot one though; -If you go out to look at your Z and the state of it almost makes you cry... (Hint: behold my heap, pictured below...)
  9. Hey, Id love a JSR shirt, and I bet a few of my friends would too (heh heh) but what about pricing/shipping to Ontario Canada?
  10. Just a thought here for some easiy/cheep R&D Juan: Put the hubs on your car (or a good friends maybe..if they agree), and drive the shit out of it for a few months and see if anything happens! I mean, you'll know they are there and will be 'prepared' in a sence if they fail right? Something else I thought of.. Get the hubs anodized. That would make them a bit tougher I think.. At work most of the aluminium parts (tooling/end of arm) we do get anodized before final assy. to make sure it will be tough enough to survive vibration/shock/heat over long periods of time. If any of my privious posts were taken as 'bashing' or being rude, I'm sorry. I didn't mean anything like that; I was going for 'constructive critisizm'
  11. HEY! WHAT'S THAT ROTTING WOOD DOING IN HERE?!?!?!
  12. Hey tim, funny you should ask that.. I was thinking about that after I saw how big my sig. turns out... but, uh... how would I do that? Sorry, but Im not terribly good with this comuter thing.. more of a wrench guy..
  13. Ok.. that was damn funny! I think I'll have to do a photo shop of my own now...
  14. It cranks over fine but just doesnt fire? Might be possible that the coil you pulled from the wreckers is toast.... or maybe another wire somewhere is cracked/pulled off? Hmmm.. could be a bad module.. I've heard of lots of Fords having similar problems and it's because of the ignition module going bad.. its usually mounted on the fender well or the fire wall. Its a little aluminum box about 4" square with fins on it (for heat sinking I guess) and a small harness coming out of it.. That's about the extent of my knowlege on this.. but I'll ask a friend of mine what he thinks. He's pretty good at diagnosing stuf like this.
  15. Basicaly, I need the overall length (fan to rear end of the engine) and the hight (pan to the highest point on the top). Im pretty sure the width will be ok.. if Glenn can get a V12 in there, the I6 should be a breeze! Oh yah, if you can see it, I'm curious what the oil pan looks like. Im hoping the sump will clear my crosmember/steering... oh yah; if it's FI, does it have actuall injectors or some sort of Bosch j-tronic (or something) system? Thanks man!
  16. Hmm... Im a Coke man myself.. oh oh.. here comes the war!
  17. How about a contest for the most jack stands in use at one time? Or the best 'custom jack stand' in use (cinder blocks, old rims, rubbermaid containers, ?) And I like the sticker idea... I'd put one on my car for sure!
  18. Ok; Afshin wrote "Datsunlover criticized a measurement in a picture; more appropriate would be to just ask if the measurement for the O-ring is accurate and how was it measured during the actual production. The point here is that some people instead of giving the benefit of doubt and asking a question in a nice way are being aggressive and insinuating that the product is not good." I was not trying to be nasty and overly critical, I was trying to give him some constructive critisism. IMO if you are going to put a "proof" picture on your site, you shoud try to make sure it is shown/measured properly so there is no room for error and question about it. Just saying "we have the tools TO measure properly" does not mean it WAS measured properly. A few weeks ago I gave my boss a finished part and said 'It's right on tolerance' but it wasn't; because I didn't use the micrometer properly. The part was to be +0.0000 -0.0005 It was under .0009. Part was scrap because I measured wrong. The tools in my boss's shop are top notch as well, but it doesnt mean a thing if they are not used properly. That is all I was trying to say. I was not trying to 'slam' him or his company.
  19. $cha-ching$! Thats what I am going for- low cost, and strong/safe. Guess I'll start measuring and get some materials!
  20. Hey Glenn; I thought this post might get your attention! I wasn't aware that 6 had such a long history! But I like the idea of a tried and tested engine that has been 'proven through a long history of racing'. I figure that just the stock engine would have enough 'umph' to keep me happy for the first little while! Lets see.. Datsun sohc 2.8 I6 - 170 HP VS. Jag dohc 4.0L I6 - 245 HP... an instant 75 horse jump BEFORE turbo/cam/exhast mods! And it would be different lots of supra swaps, lots of chev and ford swaps... not many Jagsuns around though! As for a trany, I like the 'old school' 4 speed, and was thinking of maybe an old Muncie, or a borg warner T-10 top loader... I know a lot of chev guys so this would be the easy find. I have to go do some more research on this, but I am liking the idea if for nothing else then the fact that it would be different! Oh yah, if you come across any other info on these engines/parts cars let me know. Thanks for the link Glenn!
