  1. I agree 100% with Tim's shear power statement but since I will be using the car on the street and will not be doing things nearly as radical as he has done with custom everything , I think if I increase the base CR to 8.5 it will increase torque down low and lag from a bigger turbo won't be as annoying. Been there, no fun. Besides, am I the only one who doesn't have the turbo spooled all the time? I didn't think I was that old! Joe
  2. I'm trying to put this together but we have to come up with a piston that is good for most of us. My plan is a piston that is good for a turbo that will yeild an 8.5 CR when used with a P90 and a NA motor that has a 10-1 CR when used with an E31. I'm shooting for a deck height of 0-1mm negative. Does anyone have a "limit" on pin height? Preference on ring land size? Joe
  3. Tim, What C/R is your motor and who made your pistons? Thanks. Joe
  4. Jamie, Sounds like what I was trying to do but ran into a problem with the back plate mounting to the T3 center section. Have you tried it yet? Joe
  5. Clifton, I know what you mean! What I want to do is have something that is stronger than the stock turbo slugs that will be able to take the occasional errant state of tune. Joe
  6. Jamie. Yep, for a stroker. Haven't gotten the details yet but I will post here when I know more. Joe
  7. Mack, I've been talking to one of my club members about having four sets of pistons made that have specs of 87mm diameter with a Pin height of 34mm and a 10cc dish. We are doing this for forced induction motors that will have a compression ratio of 8.48 to 1 when using a 1mm head gasket and a P90 head. Let me know if your interested as I'm sure the more we get the cheaper they'll be. Joe
  8. How would you like to wait TWO YEARS for your car to be painted? And I brought the car there completely stripped of paint, glass, brightwork, interior and drivetrain! I brought the car to many shops here in NJ (by trailer) only to be told that "We don't really get involved with that kind of work." One guy quoted me 30 large!!! When I did find someone that was honest he told me that they can make so much more on insurance work that it doesn't pay for them to take on complete paint jobs. The shop that finally did do the work took $6k and ran. There are runs all over the place, fish eyes, you name it. The owner told me that it wasn't a $6k paint job because there was body work that had to be done. Shopping cart dings. Next time I want to paint a whole car I'm sending it out of state where it looks like people actually take pride in their craft. Can you tell I'm a little jealous?! Your car looks great!! Joe
  9. If you want to replace the downpipe, let me know. $25 plus shipping and it's yours. Joe
  10. Thanks for the offer Alex, and I just may go that route if no one responds with a recommendation for my setup. I can't believe no one has responded with an opinion! Joe
  11. After cruising around Turbonetics web site, I think I've found what I need. It looks like there are two different backplates, a carbon seal and a dynamic. Am I correct? Can anyone tell me what the difference is? Joe
  12. Okay, it looks like it's going to take much longer for me to figure out what turbo to use so I'll just cut to the chase and ask those who know! Right now my engine is a 2.8 with a P90a with no hydraulic lifters. The bottom end has been balanced. I'm using a TEC II engine management, a Spearco intercooler with a core that will flow 600cfm. I have a custom fuel rail and am using 32lb O-ring injectors on a N42 manifold that has a 60mm throttlebody. I'm using one of Scottie's downpipes that connects to a 2-1/2" exhaust. Can someone tell me what turbo I should get?! I don't want an external wastegate and I am using a half inch spacer between the turbo and exhaust manifold for downpipe clearances. Thanks for the replies. Joe
  13. Well unfortunately this will not work because the compressor backing plates are different and the TA/49's backing plate will not mount up the the center section of the T3. So close. OKay Clifton, are you using a .50 or .60 compressor? Do you have any compressor to manifold interferrence? Joe
  14. Hey guys, you can pull the diff. The car doesn't need one to roll. I would also pull the CV halfshafts as they are worth something to the right person. Also, grab the rear disks, master cylinder, and calipers. They don't have to be on the car either for it to roll All of this stuff can go into the 240!
  15. Are you going to port the intake manifold to match the size of the new throttlebody?
  16. The red one is the V8 car. http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=70 Wouldn't trade it for the world!
  17. Clifton you made my day! Going in the garage for another marathon session!! Wife's not gonna be to happy
  18. Spiirit, I put 2x3 box tube inside the rocker boxes on my V8 car and Have had good success. This was done about 15 years ago. When I had the bodywork done they added about 3/8 inch of plactic to the roof to get the hatch to line up correctly (don't ask) and to this day you cannot tell. From memory I can tell you that the 2x3 is tied into the rear foll bar which is attached to the roof on either side of the dome light. I also made a box on the floor behind the seats that raised the floor 3 inches. I welded a piece of 1x1 from the 2x3 in the rocker box up to the rolll bar, then welded a piece of 2x3 from the 1x1 along the floor to the trans tunnel. I then put a dummy floor on the top of that piece to the vertical piece that goues up to the hatch floor. Does this make any sense? We'll anyway I'm only using a 327 but it is a stick car and I do NOT baby it! Joe
  19. Ok this post will show just how green I reallly am when it comes to turbo maps and specs. Some of you know that besides my Z cars I also have a Grand National. I have what was called a TA/49 turbo from the GN that is just sitting on a shelf in my garage and I want to know if I can marry the compressor side of the TA/49 with my stock turbine side of the original L28 turbo (t3?)? The TA/49 is only about 9 months old and it was removed for another upgrade to the GN. What do you think, can this be done? Is it a wise move? thanks. Joe
  20. Buy the whole motor and mage a long rod 406! Custom pistons and 5.7 rods
  21. I've seen that before on Ebay I think!
  22. I believe I just saw James' dad on CNN. I didn't know he was a schuttle astronaut. My heart goes out to all involved. Joe
  23. You can get 225/45-17 Falken Azinas's shipped to your door for $448 from discount tire! Don't know how good they are in the wet but you can't beat them in the dry. Joe
  24. Would you be willing to part with the gas tank from a 75-76? Joe
