  1. most of the guys on that site seem like computor geeks that dont know anything about cars and just post to find an easy way out of a problem with thier cars.since i fix cars for a living (20 years ) i find that sight very boring.since probably %90+ of hybrid z members work on thier own cars it is a much better place to find info.

  4. some counties in california are smog at transfer only.these are on the coast and the mountains.buy some vacation property and register it there.
  5. my 77 z turbo is down with blown head gaskit.since i work on cars at a ford dealer fixing cars after work is kind of hard to get to.my main hauler is a 96 ford cargo van.it tows the z to the track,and tows my boat(bad habit).boat is a 95 18' mirage tunnel bottem with a merc 2.5efi 260hp engine.top speed on boat is 110 mph.got a yamaha fz1 last year-its a great road bike.then i got my good old 87 honda xr 600 dirt bike.
  6. tahoe can be expensive but if stay in little motels off of main street its cheaper.reno is a lot cheaper.try to go sunday thru thursday.if you crash tahoe on a saturday night with out a room reservation expect to pay $100+.
  7. the haltech software can be downloaded for a person to play with from thier website.its dos and i am not a big computor geek but it can be figured out.haltech has igniters for 1 to 3 coils on its website.3 coils=waste spark system.if you run a distributor you could probably run a 81 to 83 zxt ignitor and coil.since i work at a dealership as a tech i see toothed crank wheels on a lot of cars.i have wanted to use the toothed 81zxt crank wheel to see if i could make it work with a coil-on plug ignition system-no spark plug wires needed.since those zxt ignitors are just a power transistor i am thinking about just trying some stuff from radio shack and building a 3 channel ignitor box.
  8. fl327-i have a 60-1/stage 5 t3 turbo in my car hooked up to a scotty down pipe with factory 81zxt injection.some times it pulls hard and sometimes it doesnt.car does not run consistant like a new car at work.1 of the injecor hoses is leaking a little so its time for a major rehab.i run a 3.7 lsd -i like the gearing but i drive on the freeway at 80 a lot.i have tons of stuff scrounged from work.like a 6 cylinder coil pack from a explorer and a complete engine harness with coil-on-plug coils from a 2001 4.6 liter truck.never can have enough connectors/injector plugs.most modern cars havent run distributors in years.watch out on your injectors.83 to 86 turbo coupe ran 30/lb .87-88 and svo ran 36/lb.some guy on ebay has new 2003 cobra injectors for $230 a set.supposed to be 39/lb.if the cleaning cost too much i would go new.less what ifs to chase on start up.
  9. lots of injectors for sale on ebay-going to get NEW injectors.after completeing a long project i want it to fire and run with no problems.car is used to commute to work.i have a van that i use for a pick up truck but car gets better gas milage.
  10. dreams of short shifting to cut down on tire spin?or flooring the throttle in 4th on the freeway and lighting up the tires with out downshifting?i would be happy to make 600 hp on a pump gas daily driver.that is 1 expensive 302 -but you need good parts to keep from breaking at that hp level.
  11. try a 81 zxt dampener with a zxt crank pick up.from what i have read the haltech will read the 81 crank angle sensor.i am looking at efi systems but what i dont like about haltech is that it has no onboard driver transistors for ign coils.the 81 zxt dampener has 90 teeth.that = 4 degrees per tooth.if you knocked out 2 teeth at 56 btdc it should work .other things i have heard is changing the wheel in the 82/83 zxt distributor to z31 300zx wheel.i have a spare crank 81 crank angle sensor with mount.would like to come over to sf when you get it done and check it out.if you dont want to build a fuel rail try bosch # 0 280 150 036 or 0 280 150 042 injectors.the 036 injectors a the mercedes 4.5l injectors .the 042 were on a 6.9.a buddy runs the 036 injectors on his 510/turbo l28.the 036 injectors are oem on my mercury outboard.can give you a link for those at $60 each new.going to get 1 of theses for sure-goto http://www.innovatemotorsports.com a 5 wire o2 sensor/data logger cheap.
  12. a long long time ago i used to goto zcar.com but got tired of reading posts from people that are better at using computors than using hand tools .i joined this site a few years back and it is the only z site i look at.i think the rb forum could go the to alternate 6 cyl forum.this will discourage the 20something year old kids that read too many import mags form posting.some times i post questions but it is just to see the results of something somebody else has tried.i always post something positve or i dont post at all.due to the amount of bytes used to maintain this website things will probably have to change.i hope the turbo forum is not dropped.some people seem to think that forum is turbo l28 only.not so.its for turbo anything and i read all posts that i am interested in .i dont read that many posts-i skip alot because i have been there and done that.maybe the mods should make a stupid post forum and move the stupid posts there.for open season slamming.
  13. i remember seeing a z with 6 mikuni bike carbs on it.if you paired the l28 cylinders together you would have a problem with firing order and air pulsing in carbs at same time1/6 2/5 3/4 should be paired as they fire 360 degrees apart.but this would make an intake manifold design problem.most people dont believe it but best carbs for a z are original 240 round tops.but dont let me discourage you.try it -you will learn something.

  15. both of thoses cars are over 3000 lbs.if you can get a little wheelspin it will get your boost up faster.the 4x4 cars will bog if not launched very hard.then you get to spend bucks on broken parts.
  16. zsane-try to make it to the norcal hybird z day in a couple of months-it will be cool to hear the blower on a z.are you going to mount it right or left side?
  17. gerry-those mazda/focus motors got sent back.since bill ford(if my memory is correct) is running the company warrenty has got a little tighter and there are more controls in place.like calling ford for prior approval before an engine or trans is shipped.if they smell abuse (like racing or ecm mods)they cancel the warrenty.since we get time subtracted if a repair comes back the techs dont like to repair engines and trans anymore.just reload with another assembly.
  18. i put a 1" pipe plug in the pop off valve hole.its in the wrong spot for a blow of valve unless you are running a valve the recycles the air around the throttle.
  19. rust or dirt in tank or something to plug up tank pick up.fuel pump will get louder when it is pulling a vacuem.
  20. i looked at tilton website.they have a hydraulic set up that replaces the input bearing retainer.just need some earl's lines to plumb it to oem nissan clutch master.
  21. i drove a stock 2003 cobra at work yesterday.used car manger bought it used at auction .had 17k miles on it.nice car .but these things are heavy.it wouldnt take as much horsepower the run with it in a z.if you play to much with it you void the warrenty.i will stick with my z.
  22. finding somebody that will weld a a used gas tank is tough.it takes mucho cleaning then tank is purged with nitrogen or at least filled with water.75 or 76 tank has good hose connections built in .has a 11mm output hose and a 8mm return.this will support any kind of motor.
  23. since i work as a ford dealer tech i know a little about ford.we have already changed 2 of those new 2.3 liter mazda/focus engines at work.had rod bearing problems.i dont see much strength in the parts-they are engineered just to get by and no extra.i would only swap a 4 cylinder into a pre 75 z-a light car .the old 2.3 turbo was a stout engine-i had a 88 turbo coupe.the turbo is on right side-no steering shaft problems.if you extract the 2.3 carefully you will find eec harness is separate from the car.best year for turbo 2.3 is 87 or 88 turbo coupe-these had a intercooler on top.also had 36lb injectors and a t5.the tbird was a heavy car -probably about 3400 lbs but i would go.
  24. who would buy that thing?90% of restyled cars i dont like-too gaudy.Dan-when you have the z show it would be cool if you could find somebody with a portable dynojet to come out and dyno cars-kind of like a safe way to drag race.where the shop is at noise would not be a problem.
  25. i would hate to think that canada is getting like california?i hope you find your car ross.i remember you loaned me some tools to change my alternator at thunderhill a few years back.the guys from canada make more of thier own parts-more ideas.
