WOW it's been a while let me start by saying still have my Z. I should hopefully be getting her here with me in Colorado in about a month. I have finally finished my Bachelors. I am now a proud member of the USAF and working full time in my position, so now that I am fully settled it is time to get the car back and working well. A brief synopsis of everything about the car posted below, I will try to actually get pictures posted soon. I got this car when I was 17 it was butterscotch brown and in decent shape. I ran the car for about 6 months until I saved up enough money for paint. After that I drove her for a while then swapped in a 5 speed from a 1979 280zx parts car. Then trouble happened I decided to swap in a turbo . It has been a learning experience. I swapped it in and got her running, but not running well. I then decided I wanted MegaSquirt. This has been one of my favorite things I have ever done, that being said it definitely hasn't been all roses. I got MS and all the parts over the span of about 3 years for gifts/ extra money when I had it. I finally put it all together and got her running (boy that's making a long story short), but she wouldn't run well for very long. It turns out a car left sitting for about 5 years without moving with gas in the tank might get some crap in the tank when the gas goes bad. So I got her running but the fuel pump would clog off and starve my engine for fuel. So I pulled the tank had it coated, left her sitting for another 6 months still has some crap in the tank (I put in a fuel filter and am hoping to run a few tanks through to see if this clears it up). There she sits at my parents waiting for me to either ship her or drive her here. Last time I drove her was Easter day 2010 so not too long ago. I am 24 married with 3 kids and I am still in love with my Z. Now for the good stuff the car itself. The Car: 1975 280z red w/ 2 black racing stripes The Body: A little bit of rust here and there but nothing bad, a few dings and dents the paint job is now 7 years old. MSA front spoiler Shaved rear bumper 240z front bumper Deleted lower side and rear emblems All chrome trim was masked off and painted black I think it looks really good. The Interior: 2001 Toyota Celica cloth seats: fabricated using a mixture of the datsun and celica mounting hardware 5 point harness drivers side (over kill and thinking of going back to a 3 point (Youthful thoughts of coolness with the harness) MSA Dash Cap Generic Boost gauge The interior was actually in pretty good shape and I have tried to leave it alone mainly The Engine/Drivetrain: L28et from a 1983 280zx Pallnet fuel rail 60MM TB Ported Intake 2.5" MSA DP, full 2.5 inch mandrel bent exhaust and some muffler I got a long time ago, exits from a 3 inch chrome tip I literally found on the side of the road . MS1 V3.0 board running MSNS. 280zx radiator (I ran my mechanical fan through my first one revving to high and clearly something else was wrong) Single 12" electric fan comes on when the car gets hot (I forgot the temp) Oil Cooler (Compliments of the turbo auto car know I didn't have to just wanted to) CIA (I know so cool) 5 Speed transmission from a 1979 280zx Regular turbo clutch Other Stuff Push button start (stupid ignition switch after replacing the 3rd one I just gave up, now it requires a key and the push button) Swastika rims SS brake lines We can clearly see that I am missing suspension I realize that. Once I get the car to me here and she is running she will be getting a suspension make over I am not setting her up for track, just good performance for daily driving. I hope you enjoyed reading and feel free to comment even if it is to make fun of my adolescent choices in paint before suspension. I didn't get bitten by the speed bug for a little while. I would also like to thank the hundreds of people that contribute valuable information to this site my car is coming along and wouldn't be nearly as good if it hadn't been for all of the HybridZ contributors

Need advice from people who have own Z cars
75280z replied to catfat's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
as some one who just finished college, I had a wife and kids when I did it. I kept the Z, but she never got driven, I would suggest a newer car, I love my Z but once you get the "Well I am just gonna change this" then its the "While I'm at it" its super fun, but college is more important and no need to make that time of your life more stressful -
So doing a little research that is undoubtedly against the TOS with carfax for people to do this for me... So if a moderator reads this I am sorry for posting something stupid and will you delete this thread. Thank you.

I completely disagree with you I think I might just start a flamewar right here with you dhp first I will make a personal attack on you, you are very unambiguous with your comments, then back it up with no substance... j/k I frequent this site for the pure informational benefit and I am glad we have such amazing moderators. I am also thankful that people know that a thread like this doesn't go into 1st Gen tech just because that is the kind of car they own. I also hope I don't get banned for saying I was going to start a flame war with you. Although A cool (not good just cool) idea would be fun like 1 day a year have a huge flame war thread posted into the non-tech forum. Hey don't forget today is National Talk Like a Pirate Day. Have a great day me hearties.

I will be honest things like getting torn apart like that is why I have been a member 6 years and have so few posts. I don't have the technical know-how to answer questions so I just ghost the forums. I have learned a ton, and use search function all the time. I might not post a lot but I have a lot of information in my brain!! I will say that I am to the point where I might be able to start contributing to the site in more technical aspects and it is a good feeling.

thats funny, yeah well at least he changed it, but he didn't send me a reply I am sure he hates me ohh well don' post things in an advertisement when you haven't tested them
-
I actually sent him an email and told him that there was pretty much no way that his car was that fast; that it would be untruthful to leave his advertisement the way it is, no response yet.

http://santamaria.craigslist.org/cto/1378240248.html He claims 0-100 in less than 5 seconds. Hilarious I just did a little quick wiki that says the Ariel Atom 2 achieved that in 6.86 seconds. I thought people would get a kick out of that I am gonna message him and ask him when he timed that. I am not trying to be a big jerk it just cracks me up when people say stuff like this.

I got my Z when I was 17 I had ridden/driven B210's since I was a kid. THose ugly little hatchbacks hold some of my very fondest memories my father used them as pumping cars to check oil wells. I used to ride around with him. When I got older I found out that Datsun made a sports car looked it up and was instantly in love. I went to look at a Z that was on ebay about an hour and a half away, it had some damage so I didn't end up getting it. I did however drive past one in a parking lot it was much straighter no for sale sign so I just started knowcking on doors (Apartment COmplex) untill I found the guys roomate I got the guys number. He was coming back the next day to put it on a trailer to move it he couldn't get it to start. After he fixed that he was going to sell it. I offered him 2 grand (No rust in the frame rails on a datsun in Oklahoma) he accepted. We opened the hood jumped it accross the starter and drove it home. I got the need for speed a couple years after driving it daily. I went turbo charged at one of the worst times to do it, right before I went to college. So over the next few years I slowly aquired the parts for megasquirt while my car sat in a barn at my parents house. I am 23 now just got done with college, the Z sat the entire time I got my bachelors. I just commissioned in the Air Force. All seh needs is a fuel pump to make her go again unfortunately I am in California and she is back in kansas. I plan on getting her shipped out here hopefully pretty soon. I just picked up an 83 VW GTI for a daily driver if anyone knows anything about them I would love a heads up. THis car has been a learning experience my wife has been so patient with me and the car. THe Z is running now she had rust in the tank so that had to be fixed and in the proccess the fuel pump was broke and I had to report to my first assignment before I could get her fixed but she does work once the fuel pump gets replaced. This car is amazing and I don't plan on selling her. Next major upgrade is suspension but that is after I put a few thousand miles on her when i finally get her back out on the road.

Alright Kijana Thank you so much for the help and the advice. I found out what my main problem is. I was losing fuel pressure when I went about like 3000 RPM. It wasn't doing it when i first started the car, but when I would drive it and then rev it it would stumble even sitting still. So I started looking and the tank had a bunch of crap in it. So I emptied it and cleaned it. She is running like a champ now. I didn't have time to do it correctly by coating the interior of the tank. I am moving Tuesday and needed the car somewhat drive-able. I learned 2 big lessons from this. 1. crap in your fuel tank is not good. 2. it is very important to have a fuel pressure guage inside the cab that you can monitor while driving.

Alright here is the scenario. I just got MS running on my car idleing great, but when i try to drive her she starts stumbling really badly at around 3000 RPM under load and also when trying to just maintain speed. i thought it was a timing issue but I am unsure at this point. The first couple runs i made with the car she didn't do it then it started so I started the datalog. Pulls really hard untill that point though! I am still new to this and still learning any help would be greatly appreciated. Car Setup- l28et-stock Innovative LC-1 wideband MS1 v3-MSNS-extra I am willing to answer any questions you have for me thank you in advance. datalog.zip.zip

I got the downpipe a couple days ago and will try to get pictures of it this weekend, I might even try to install it. I think I will be putting a bung farther down stream for the WB02. It looks really nice when I got it out of the box.

Little Background I have had MS for 3 years I got it right after I got married now I finally have enough disposable income to maybe get her running. Here is where you the lucky Hybridz reader comes in. She will not Idle she spits and sputters and dies . I will post screen shots tomorrow if I need to of my very terrible MSQ file. Thank you in advance. Engine: l28et stock No Ic Stock Injectors GM IAT LC-1 WB-o2 280zx Head Temp ( Can't get Easy Therm to calibrate correctly reads about 170 degrees at 80 degrees) Surely this cant be the route of all of this. MSNS-E-29y4 Relay board Stock coil driven my MSnS-E I believe my timing is off, but I am not positive. I was wondering if anyone with a similar set-up could maybe give me some pointers on getting her fired up. I promise I have searched and read I know it is probably out there but I haven't found it yet. I have had MS I zcar1.zip
