  1. I think it looks good. Especially if you've never painted anything before (and in such tight quarters). I would just hit the large, flat, sections. I was going back and forth on this subject awhile back and I decided not to paint my engine bay. Well... it'll be painted... just not the 2-stage exterior color. I'm too afraid I'll do all that work and then mess the finish up either by installing the motor or dropping something. Duplicolor Truck Bed Coating here I come! Might not look so shiney (or professional), but it's functional!
  2. Yes, when clean , this is an awesome color!
  3. Are you sure you want to color sand your engine bay? That's ALOT of work and buffing the clear after the sanding is going to be a mother of a job. Looks great, though! WRB, right?
  4. That's gonna be sooooo mean Stony. You should haul it out to the flightline and race one 'o them eagles! They can have a head start
  5. Uh-Oh... here we go! Us Yanks don't get too many of those RB30's
  6. Or an RB26 The Neo transmission will bolt right up.
  7. Just think of it this way... All that body work is giving you more time to change your mind and alter the direction of your project in potentially fun, exciting and expensive ways! I've had 3 different motors/trannys, 4 different paint colors (purchased and tested), 2 sets of wheels... the list goes on!
  8. To me the decision should be contingent upon the essay. What function did the essay serve? Was the essay written to define his official, government funded, position? Was it written to stimulate thought in his students... to provide a forum for an intelligent discussion. In what context (in it's entirety) was the statement used? I'm not inclined to agree with his statement (atleast by judging the snippit the media provided) but I would be hesitant to call for his termination. The general public (for the most part) only sees what the media presents... and the media is not exactly known for, or praised for, it's fair and accurate reporting. The ACLU is just whack.
  9. Is this true with the RB20? Will it's tranny bolt up to a 26? I think Jamie was alluding to the fact that the AWD tranny isn't really suitable to an RWD only swap. Integrating the AWD system require a SEVERE amount of custom fabrication to work. I think Vince (vintagetechz) is currently working on this type of project.
  10. I'd put those safety glasses and gloves on first! LOL This is roughly the same process I used. I had an assistant heat a small section of undercoating with the propane torch. When the undercoating appeared to discolor (very quickly) I jumped in with the putty knife and began stripping. You won't remove everything (sometimes corners and areas where sheet metal overlap can be tricky) but what is left is usually just residue and easy to remove with thinner. Just be careful that you don't get the torch too close. If you do... you will have to deal with flaming globules of undercoating that can quickly ruin your day. 'Napalm sticks to kids'
  11. If you still have that Nismo clutch in 30 days we'll be doing business again !
  12. I'm interested. Do any of the yokes have to be supplied or is that handled?
  13. You're right. Rick has stated that they are from the 1986-87 Toyota Surpa Turbo. I know the later models (90+) had liquid filled mounts and I'm not sure if these can be used.
  14. Jamie, If you decide to sell the IC give me a holler. I'm very interested. Will you be parting with the piping as well? keith
  15. That, sir, is a good question! I took a quick look at Joel's intake (kinda hard to seein his photos) and he's still using the stock manifold between the head and intake mani (collector...to keep with my previous terminology ). Technically he can still use the stock Air Regulator and AAC valve to control idle since idle air is injected into the manifold after the throttle plate(s).
  16. It would be interesting to see if the insurance company 'totalled' that car. Doesn't look 'readily repairable' to me. Looks like the unibody and roof were damaged...
  17. Shoot... I'm at $10k and I still need: Diff (R200 or R230) Anyone got one? LOL Driveshaft Exhaust Intercooler Intercooler Piping BOV Fuel Cell Fuel pump and plumbing Seats/harnesses Gauges Cage Coilovers Shocks Front 5-lug conversion (Modern Motorsports) Brake discs Brake lines It's not hard to spend $20k... but it's not for the faint of heart.
  18. Yep... looks like it's all crucial to controlling the idle. Although it should be relatively hidden beneath the Collector I suppose you could relocate it. But would longer hoses (with an increased volume of air between the AAC and Balance Tube) affect operation much? Is the Air Chamber, Balance Tube, and associated plumbing designed for a specific volume? Hmmm.... I was bouncing around, in my head, the idea of fabricating a light gauge sheet metal 'shield', utilizing the Air Chamber mount locations, to hide it. All the recommendations I've recieved (from those who have built up these motors) is that it should remain. Jamie - Your motor came wired for SDS or came with the SDS system already installed? ---EDIT --- I just re-read Stony's old ad. It said it came with the SDS system fully integrated.
  19. Thanks Matt! I didn't know that the AAC could be controlled via the SDS. I know that I want my warm-up idle to be greater than 900-950rpm (which is what it would be if the AAC was not controlled). The air regulator supplements the air fed to the air chamber by the AAC valve. that makes sense. The more air... the more the idle rpm. Knowing this... is it even necessary to control the AAC with the SDS? Without control, on a warm engine, the AAC will (should) maintain a standard 900-950rpm idle. When cold the air regulator will add supplementary air to increase idle for warm-up, right? I know I'm getting into theory of operation here, but it's interesting none-the-less (well... to me! ) Keith
  20. Yesterday I began stripping down my '26 to prepare it for paint and the eventual installation of an SDS EM-6F system. While the SDS installation as a whole should be fairly straight forward I have some questions regarding the removal of stuff ( ) from the engine. I'll start with the Intake Side: Here is my understanding of the system (the terminology comes from an Australian FSM): Air is taken from the Collector (intake) and fed to the AAC Valve (Auxillary Air Control) which is controlled by a signal (AAC valve control solenoid valve signal) from the ECU. When the Valve is not controlled (un-plugged) it should be 'closed' and should allow the motor to sustain a consistent 900rpm idle. The AAC feeds a connected Air Chamber. In addition to this, air is also input into the Air Chamber from an 'Air Regulator' (which also pulls air from the Collector). This Air Chamber feeds the Balance Tube which is connected to the intake manifold (the part between the head and throttle chambers). I am assuming that the Balance Tube injects air after the Throttle chambers to accomodate the idle. (I'll inspect my Intake Manifold and Balance Tube later to confirm). The Throttle Chambers also have 'Supplemental Air Paths" which appear to provide a means for air to bypass the throttle plates: Now... I know the SDS has a 'Fast Idle' solenoid option to allow air to bypass the throttle plates. I am assuming this option is unnecessary because the AACV, even when uncontrolled, will allow the motor to idle. What role/function does the Air Regulator provide? Does it remain installed? I don't really see any reason to remove it so I'm just going to leave it in place. On the hot side: My motor did not come with the Turbocharged Pressure Control Solenoid (boost controller). Can I eliminate the hard/soft piping that ran to this unit or will they need to be retained for use in the SDS system? There is quite a bit of plumbing there that appears to be unnecessary. If these lines ARE removed what controls the wastegate actuation/control? The 6F has a 'Boost Limiting' Feature but It doesn't sound like a direct replacement for a boost controller. Is an MBC or EBC used in conjunction with the SDS?
  21. Whew... that took awhile to read through! Funny stuff. I found myself going "uh-huh" and nodding my head to quite a few of those.
  22. Never did like that place. Personally... I kinda like the peace of mind afforded by my Beretta
