  1. As far as I know my TPS is good to go. How can I really check it to see if it is running through its paces without any problems?
  2. Clifton, As far as I can tell it is only happens when I am at part throttle cruising getting into boost. That could be just below, at or slightly into boost. When I really get on the throttle it does nothing but get up and go! Also when it does turkey (surge) my rpms are still increasing but my foot is not pushing on the throttle anymore just maintaining a steady state throttle. Thanks
  3. Guys, Great information. To start with I only get this under part throttle low boost above 3500 rpms. I have been playing with the timing and almost got rid of it yesterday. But I tried something new and now it is partial back again. As for the turbo being a mismatch could be, but there are people on this web running turbos much bigger then mine and not having any problems at all. So?? If the weather premits I will work on the timing some tomorrow and see where it leads me. Also you can check on my other post about spark tables: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=131045 Thanks for the help!

    Spark table

Clifton, Thanks for the info. I was looking at adding timing in the upper rpm but below 100kpa. Matter of fact I am only getting surge above 3500 rpms and it maybe because I am taking timing out up high, hum!! Will have to update my spark table again and see what happens. Thanks

    Spark table

Matt, It was just something that I thought that I would try and it worked, go figure. Do you have another idea that I can try? Also if anyone has a spark table that works with there turbo setup I would like to look at it? Thanks

    Spark table

Thanks for the heads up Moby! Well for some reason when I export my spark tables it gives me the VE table instead?? However, I managed to capture the screen and provided it in my first post. I should know better then to post stuff without first looking at it!!

    Spark table

Hi All, Well I have been working an issue with turbo surge, as mentioned in this thread: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=129000 Well I desided to try something and see what happened. I started playing with the spark angle and I have almost gotten rid of what I thought was turbo surge. Not really sure how I did this but it works so I will take it. So if one of the MS gurus can explain it to me go for it! Here are my old and new tables. Hope this helps someone out!
  10. So far the top speed that I have seen is 145 on the back straight of VIR. Was it really doing that you got me! I do know that my speedo is off by about 10% so I guess I was really doing something like 130-135 or so! 77 280Z 82 turbo motor T3/T04 turbo pushing 15 psi MS-1 running extra code 3.90 rear gear 82 tranny 225/50 15 BFG G-Force Sports I was doing right at 6000 rpms in 5th. Another time on the same track I saw 140 before I blew a head gasket going into turn 14, not fun to run down hill and through hogpen without any power! Now if I can just get rid of the turkey! Having fun at VIR and someday soon Sebring I hope!!
  11. Hi All, I am currently using the 29v code and I am having some issues that I think maybe related to my coding. So what to do. I was thinking about upgrade to the newer code 29y4 and hopefully find someone who has theres running pretty good and take a look at there settings. I am not interested in the Ve and spark tables as mine work pretty good but how you have the MS setup, i.e. contants, enrichment, etc. So if someone can help me out great. this is for a turbo motor running MS1 V3 T3/T04B turbo with intercooler LC-1 wideband high impedence injectors 8.2 to 1 compression HB280ZT
  12. OK guys here is my .02! It was a very rainy track day at VIR. The first session of the day it was raining and the track had some standing/running water in places, exit turn 10 and the climbing SSSSSS for starts. But sense it was a HPDE track day we ran in the rain :-), some of it was under the yellow flag :-( Here is my setup: Nissan Snowflake rims with 225/50 15 BFG G-force sport tires 225F/250R coilovers Illuminas set at 3 front and 2 rear, usually 4 front and 3 rear in the dry. Sway bars 28mm front and 22mm rear L28 with turbo, 300rwh 3.9 rear gears with open dif The car ran very well with the setup I had. Even though I had good hp proper control of the skinny pedal was key to keeping the car moving in the right direction. Also most of the higher hp cars were very easy to pass when we could because they were very tail happy. Now that does not mean I did not have any problem there myself but like I said it is the skinny pedal and the nut behind the wheel that can or cannot cause you problems when it is raining. So for me tires are the first item that I would look at getting. If you are in a rainy area then for your street tires I would personally look at some Ultra High Performance All-Season Tires. Hope this helps some. HB280ZT
  13. I wish I had a picture of Hog Pen at VIR it is something like you are talking about at Willow. It is a hard right hand turn that is at the bottom of a basically drop and that is very high speed. If any one (Mikelly and the gang from NC) can explain Hog Pen go for it because it is a crazy hang on and turn right type of turn that I still have problems with, but it is a blast!! As for driving the Z I really wish I could get more seat time. But it has been almost 1 year since I was at the track and it is killing me. But with now coming 2 moves and car tuning issues it looks like a few more mounts before I can get to the track again. Enjoy and you should not have any problems with this just do it and run the daylights out of it! HB280ZT
  14. Just a bit of information about the Cummings 4B: The 3.9L/4BT Cummins is an engine in the same family as the 5.9L Cummins turbodiesels. The 3.9L/4B is an inline four-cylinder turbodiesel that was popular for many step van applications including bread vans and other commercial vehicles. This engine is also used in various industrial and construction applications. With a cylinder bore of 4.02 inches and a piston stroke of 4.72 inches, the engine had a wet weight of 745 pounds. In recent years it produced 130 hp (97 kW) and 355 lb·ft (481 N·m) of torque. At 745 pounds it maybe a bit heavy! HB280ZT
  15. Nope, Like Mikelly said I do track events and autocross when I get the chance and have had no problems at all with the LCA's. So you should be good to go with your LCA looking like mine. Hope this helps. Also a few pictures of the car at VIR with this setup. Running throught turn 3 between 60 and 70 I think! Coming out of Oaktree on the throttle 30+. HB280ZT
  16. I also like the 513's but am not sure if they will fit my car, so I asked them and here is what I got for an answer: "Sorry, I don't know. It's tricky to say 5/8" but how far away are you measuring from the center of the hub. that is a lot of work and measurement. My guess is they won't fit because those spokes are design to have a flat look so brake caliper clearance is begin sacrifice to get that look. Regards" What I asked was the following: "I am writing you because I am interested in your 16 X 7 XXR 513 Staggered wheel AE86 Miata Datsun Rims Black rims with the +15 offset and the 4 X 114.3 (4.5) pattern. I have a 77 Datsun 280Z that needs new rims but I have a problem with over sized brakes all the way around. So the million dollar question is whether or not your rims will clear my brakes. What I need is about 5/8" of clearance from the wheel stud mounting pad to the inside of the spokes. I need this space about 1" out from the wheel studs." So until someone gets a set I have to say that I am not sure about these rims. However I still like the way they look, so I will have to wait and see what happens! HB280ZT
  17. About to say how did they manage an 8 lug setup on that car?? HB280ZT
  18. To make the Arizona Z big brake kit work you "MUST" grind the nose of the LCA. What I did on mine was mount the rotor and then turn the wheel from lock to lock and mark how far the rotor comes around the nose of the LCA. Then I broke out the grinder and pretty much ground it away until the rollover lip was gone at the nose of the LCA. Here is a good picture: Also pay very good attention to the material on the side of the LCA because if you do not remove enough around the edge it will damage the rotor when you make a hard turn, don't ask me how I know!! Also if you take your car to the track take a bit more off just in case!! I hope this helps you out! HB208ZT
  19. Well I disconnected the vacuum line to the BOV and it still fluttered. So what to try next? So who here has a working 29v or y series code that is working on a turbo motor? I need to see what you are doing so that I can see if I really have something messed up. Here is my last msq file: Thanks for the help. HB280ZT megasquirt200801312116.zip
  20. I have to say information overload. It will take me a few days to go through all this information. Thanks HB280ZT
  21. No I have not tried blocking off the BOV, but will give it a try later today. Thanks HB280ZT
  22. Ok people. I have been looking through the MS forums about updating MS1-E to MS2-E and have found a few items but not what I think I need. What I am after is: What are the advantages/disadvantages? Is it really worth it? More info on how to do it? Additional features, something like the MegasquirtnSpark-extra Firmware for megasquirt site, http://megasquirt.sourceforge.net/extra/ but for MS2? Thanks for your help. HB280ZT
  23. Hi All, Well after talking with KTM I decided to go back and take a look at a few items. I decided to just go back to an older program that worked very well with my car and go from there. Well I drove it to work this morning and it is still fluttering and what I mean by fluttering is that I get a momentary hesitation that shows up in my boost guage as a bouncing guage, like a miss and then fire then miss again, causing the car to buck. So now I am really pulling my hair out! I am really not sure what could be causing this issue. So lets recap: Rebuilt lower end of motor, stock 83 turbo lower end, with rings and bearings. Put on different intake manifold, turbo vice P82 Put on new BOV, Tial 50mm Nothing else has changed! I have done nothing else to the car that should have caused this. So I guess I am going to just back up and punt and ask people if they are running the newer MS1 extra code with a turbo can I see a copy of your msq file to see if I have something drastically setup wrong. Will also look in the code thread to see what is there. Thanks for the help, hopefully we can get this fixed as I have other work to do on the car before some needed track events! HB280ZT
  24. This is getting interesting how about some more datalogs to look at: log 1032 - 135, 139, 671, 1142, 1361, 1365 log 0745 - 890, 893 log 1655 - 801, 848, 955 Let me know if you have any more ideas of what could be causing this. 25. The part that is killing me is that before I rebuilt the motor and added the new BOV it only happened every once and awhile. Now it is pretty much all the time. So I guess I need to find James Thagard and see if I can get the maps from him. So James if you are around let me know. HB280ZT
