OK, so I went home and dug up the info. First, I sniffed too much glue today...the price was $83 for the roll; BUT, the roll is 36" x 33.5' (yes, feet). Because it is a roofing material, they do not spec out the ALF(?); but, the mil thickness is 45, which, when I called Dynamat and asked them, they 'guessed' that their 'Extreme' was "in the thirties". The roll weighs in at a hefty 32 lbs. mas280 has used it (two layers), and Kashabi. I am not far enough along in my project to install it; but, have some Dynamat Extreme left over from another project and compared my roll of this roofing material to the Dynamat, and it clearly seemed that the roofing material was as good, if not better, than the Dynamat. The website for the Peel & Seal is http://www.mfmbp.com Hope this helped some. I have my roll and I won't think twice about using it over the expen$ive audio industry material. Though some of the other alternatives previously mentioned sound promising!

Try looking at a roofing supply store for a product called Peel-N-Seal. Comes in a huge roll for about $35. Don't know what the ALF rating is offhand (I'm not at home); but, I'll look into it and post follow-up. For the money, you could double it up and still be WAY ahead!

Try not to flame me too badly if this is a stupid question; but, how do I know if the 20" box fans that I planned on using for forced ventilation are 'safe' ('ignitionless')? If they prove not to be 'safe', where can I get inexpensive ones for a one-time project? Thanks! Stan

I have several two speed (three wire) Taurus fans...with both plugs (male & female) for better splicing. I was planning on 'eBaying' them when I get closer to finishing my hybrid. If any of you are in a real bind finding one, or miss the eBay auctions that you may be tracking, email me off-forum and we should be able to work something out I'll have at least three. I wish that I knew about that supposed P-n-P special ($$), because I paid alot more than that for mine... Stan suddenimpact@mindspring.com

Let this be a lesson in K-I-S-S ("Keep It Simple, Stupid!") for those of us who need it, especially myself. Such a simple, straight forward, functional design. The mounting method for my application, that up to now has remained in my head, was so completely over-engineered. Thanks Mike for your continued support in keeping other hybriders from overkill

I've enjoyed reading the many perspectives in this thread, while the subject matter still makes me ill. I have enjoyed some of the insights, and regret the personal attacks I made in some small way (though it was a sugar-coated edit of my first draft). To label me as a pony tailed liberal, is a fair response since I called you 'macho guys' names, though 180 degrees off (the description of me). I'm actually closer to a conservative, white-collar stereotype. Some of you have addressed my point about a "fair fight", and whether the use of engineered tools is 'acceptable'. But, in many instances my point was lost. If a lion is bigger and stronger, and has teeth and claws as it was created, then I think it should prevail, all other things presumed equal (Darwinian?). When I see animals use their environment to their advantage for a "Sustinence Kill", I find very little objectionable, even if they have an advantage it is still only what they came equipped with, not what they made. I merely felt it more justifiable if we are armed only with what was given us (OE ), and not adding our cerebral development and ability to make 'stuff for killing'. If it means that I would have never existed had it not been for our predecessor's brain development, then I guess indirectly I'm guilty of being the indirect benefactor of you 'thrill seeking hunters'. And the debate on that topic alone could go on forever, evolution and all; but, I just wanted to try to clarify my perspective is all. Plainswolf brought up the Native Americans and how they kill and revere(d) the Buffalo. Being of enough NA descent to qualify me in the Census Bureau, I do know my ancestry fairly well, and don't disagree with him; HOWEVER, the NAs didn't kill for 'thrills' or 'sport' that I heard of in my upbringing. They did revere the Buffalo, and yes they did use weapons (however disagreeable that is to me), and they often hearded them off of small cliffs to kill them en masse without using weapons; but, as far as I know, they always used that kill for sustinence, NOT 'thrills'. I, too, realize that this topic is as old as the ages, and has no end; but, have enjoyed the sense of community in that I can express my thoughts as have the 'opposing' viewpoint holders.

OK, I decided to get off the sidelines and jump into the fray, fully expecting to piss off some of you "macho" hunters. There are clearly two distinct discussions taking place on this thread based upon one video (which I won't even validate by watching). Killing for sustinance and survival is one thing, though doing it with highly engineered weapons diminishes the justification. Any one ever think about 'fair fights'? Then you can bear witness to 'survival of the fittest'. Sure our prehistoric predecessors developed weapons to skew the scales in their favor, and thus, we 'evolve' (or did we?). But, I would much have preferred to justify killing for survival had it been carried out with only what we were given at birth. Afterall, the animals don't carry around high powered rifles, or super high tech bows, etc. And yes, I do buy meat from the grocery store, and yes, unfortunately I am aware that those products are not acquired by playing Yanni to the animals as they are being 'gently eliminated'...I struggle with the notion frequently; but vegetarianism just isn't for me. I do, however, take very small 'comfort' knowing that those animals' entire existence was propagated solely for the purpose of food supply. Bringing up the 'argument' that we "eat meat, don't we", and "distancing ourselves from the kill makes it okay, right?" brings up an entirely different discussion than what the video demonstrates. The locale in which these hunts generate 'income' for 'survival' should find a more noble way to serve their own population...maybe forced birth control would be a good place to start. I truly believe that ANY hunting for 'sport' only proves that the perpetrator has some real problems with impotence, and finding some need to prove how 'virile' they are. Really tough guys always carry big guns (or even big knives, or bows, etc.), and shoot 'unarmed' animals, right? Maybe it is a rural thing, me being from the beach area and all; but, NO ONE will ever be able to justify hunting for 'sport' to me or the people I associate with. Now, as stated earlier, I fully expect to enrage some of you 'well-hung' hunters, and will be flamed as a result, and if my nickname is Gandhi as a result, so be it; but, "humans" that kill for 'thrills' and 'sport' ultimately have a much bigger problem than the animals that they senselessly kill. I had originally written some very sharp 'commentaries' on the kind of person that needs to blow away a duck with a shot gun; but, chose to alienate myself less in this great hybrid community by toning it down. OK, I had my chance... flame away

There was alot of interest initially; but, many wanted parts of the package, as opposed to the whole deal. I have decided to sweeten the deal a bit more because I'd like to clear this package out of my shop. For the full asking price, I'll include the ceramic coated headers that are NEW, and I'LL COVER SHIPPING to contiguous US states. Any other locations are up for negotiation. Thanks, and please tell your other gearhead friends -

While I really appreciate the interest, I'd prefer to sell this as a PACKAGE. It is a GREAT deal for a hybrid or street rod project!! -

Also forgot, it includes THREE volume Factory Service Manual which covers every conceivable operating system. I'll modify classified ad too. -
Don't have pics to post yet; but, I'll likely go with Talbot (Bullett) style chrome mirrors. I have a set of 280ZX mirrors without the remote cable that I got as an option I'll likely be selling. They work well. Also, older RX-7 power mirrors work well.

hope this works. -
I've already thrown in my .02; but, I also second Tim's notion of the uniqueness of a nice Pantera......ooooh, yeeah, baby!

Seems that the people "in the know" recommend OE or NGK TR55 plugs (I'm assuming that you're running an LT1). Alot of info on LT1tech.com. Grumpyvette has also been very helpful regarding what works and doesn't work.

Working on the camera thing. Dan, thanks for the thoughts. It's not that I'm backing out of the conversion at all. It's just that I need space to work, I'm a long way from being ready for the drivetrain, and I need to fund the paint job. Many choose to get the car up and running, then do the 'cosmetic' end; but, I don't want to disassemble the car twice. So, right now staying on track with the paint and body makes the most sense for me. Mike, you're right, too. I do have alot of time, effort (with your help), and $$ tied up in it that I likely will not recoup. But, as our famous Tim said (paraphrased) "It's a journey, not a destination" and I'm learning ALOT. For those seriously interested, send me a PM and I'll find a way to get pics. You'll LOVE the way it looks! -
The REAL second generation Cobras can be had from Carroll Shelby Motors for just under $50k for rolling car, no drivetrain. Mr. Shelby is on his third heart, clearly living on borrowed time (unfortunately), and the value of a certified REAL Cobra will skyrocket upon his passing. Talking about an "investment", almost better than real estate and a helluva lot more fun!!!

We were there for mas280s dyno runs. We visually verified that the computer screen showed that he exceeded 400 hp. The operators were clowns. Don't know why printout captured final number less than what we videotaped standing by screen. Good fun....

I'm interested in a couple of 2 1/16" Phantom gauges; but, like others I'd rather not register there. Would it be asking too much for you to be the intermediary for those that send money to you or your contact on that board?
-
Tim, REALLY happy for you!! I was sick when I heard what happened. I'm hoping that you and Mike (mas280) and i can hook up while we're there. I'd like to take you to lunch or buy some drinks...you've been such a huge help to me! We'll be at the "host hotel" Ramada on Friday night, Saturday is up in the air. We'll also be doing the Friday night Karting event. Let either of us know how to connect with you! Stan

The plans that you are discussing are great. If I may, I chose a more simple and inexpensive route and have had ZERO problems with my rotisserie. I bought two engine stands from Harbor Freight when they were on sale, some appropriate size square tube steel scrap from the local yard, and cut and extended the vertical 'spine' and rear 'axles'. Then I made and 'adapter' piece to bolt onto the bumper mount locations. It has worked perfectly, I can spin the car freely like a 'barrel roll' in an airplane, and I have no hesitation about working underneath it. My total investment was under $140, and it was my first welding 'lesson'. Had never welded before, so a perfect opportunity to learn and hone my 'skills'. Since the rotisserie is pretty inconsequential as far as looks goes, I couldn't have had a better first phase project. If you anticipate many future uses for the rotisserie, then using your other source is probably the way to go; but, once I'm done I'll just get rid of it to some local hobbyist and be done with it since the investment was minimal.

I like it alot, as well. On my application I believe that I would have followed the lines of the car (sail panel) when orienting the cap 'face'. I was planning on grafting a sportbike gas cap and mount where my stocker was; but, your cap looks REAL nice. What type of mount does it require, where did you get the parts, and what was the cost, please?

Thanks for all of the input gang! While I'm grateful to have mas280 as my local guru/sensei/teacher/mentor, blah, blah, blah, I'm also lucky to benefit from Tim's consistent generosity. Just wanted to throw the idea out there for the masses to see if there was any consensus. Grumpyvette, you are always THE 'well' for knowledge; but, I wonder if your practices far exceed what I'm trying to accomplish in a "driver". Maybe, maybe not. When I say bolt-on what I essentially have in mind is improvements that don't require machine work or outside sourcing of labor. I'd like to keep the plan to things that I can do in my garage with basic tools. I already got an inexpensive underdrive, as Dan mentioned that I would have clearance problems without it, and I currently plan to run single 3" exhaust with Dynomax can and possibly additional resonator. Tim, were you suggesting an electric water pump in your initial response, or just a stock type replacement? I'm guessing a mild cam is on my next 'wishlist'. Anyway, thanks again to all who took the time to throw in their .02 !
-
Thanks, as always, Tim. I have gone with MSD wires, NGK TR55 plugs, Mike (mas280) is reprogramming my ECU, Dan Juday was kind enough to gut my ps pump, Opti works fine, water pump seems fine (are you suggesting electric?), Hooker 2100 headers, large mandrel intake tube with high flow filter.... Sort of looking for bolt-on improvements, as many of those that you already listed, or ones that don't require ALOT of outside 'contracting'. And I have a VERY well-stocked workshop, for an inexperienced 'gearhead'
