If this doesent make you laugh you have problems
Mikelly replied to Dead Roman's topic in Non Tech Board
This is what happens when winter sets in! Mike -
rear control arm movement/fatigue
Mikelly replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
That's interesting. Looks like the whole suspension is shifting forward. Not good... Mike -
YUp, Six is closing in fast! Get out the party favors! Tim, call up the strippers! Mike

Welcome to the forum. Your thread has been locked because you did not search the vaste number of posts on this very subject. You do not pass go, you do not collect $200. Try again once you've done some reading. We're not being harsh. We're helping you help yourself... You'll thank me later, really! Thanks for playing! Mike

I would do the trade only because getting another mig welder down the road for that $300-500 won't sting so bad. Mike

Now you guys have me thinking...
Mikelly replied to Owen's topic in Gen III & IV Chevy V8Z Tech Board
Yea, guys but I think two factors are seriously being overlooked... #1. The TT motor is about to take acrap on Owen. #2. This is HybridZ and we DO NOT take lightly the whole "purist" view on ANY zcar. If the TT300ZX was as coveted as a last gen Supra, and was pulling $20K+ in resale, I would say "maybe you want to refresh the powerplant and sell it to move onto something else". But they don't. You can get them all day long for under $15K and I've seen good condition examples go for under $10K if you wait and shop for the right deal. Owen, It isn't "that" rare. If the motor is on its last leg, time to punt or hybrid the thing. Again, We're HYBRIDZ. If he asked this on Zcar.com, I could see the cheerleaders coming out to defend keeping it stock. We aren't. We're HybridZ. Them's the rules. Mike -
Also, The chevy Master is made to mount at an angle that will not naturally align to the Datsun firewall. Simply put, the Tilton/ Wilwood units are the best Factory style install. Can't beat them. Mike

There's actually a really good tech description on Centerforce's website in the FAQ. As to the Steel bellhousing, you gotta ask yourself how safe you want the car. A stock aluminum bellhousing probably will be fine. If you never plan to get into the 400WHP and above range, then you'll be just fine. The SFI steel housings are HEAVY! Mike

S30 with coil overs/will a 255/50-16 fit?
Mikelly replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I believe they will fit. If you go to my weblink and check in the "new Zcarproject Pics" folder, You'll see the mustang silver five spoke wheels. On the rear I'm running some 255-40-17s The backspacing I believe is 5.5inches on these stock wheels and I run a 1/2 inch wheel spacer to clear the coil over. Mike -
This one has been made a sticky at the request of a few... There's been a lot of speculation and debate about the V8 swap being a good candidate for track day duty on road courses. There is significant relevance in this thread to that arguement, so it's sticky-Worthy! Good track times for CMP and VIR! I encourage all to post their lap times for road courses around the country! Dude, that 510 is Awesome! Looks like your project is coming along. Mine has stalled while I'm doing stuff for work. I'll start up again on the weekend. I'm in wiring hell. Mike

Bartman, That's in the ballpark for a filled bottle from a welding shop. I've got two of the smaller bottles and I use 75/25 Argon/C02 and I generally spend about $20 per bottle when I refill, which is about once per year per bottle. Mike

Nazar, You really should use the search function. It's pretty much spelled out in a number of forums. Also, Contact Tim240Z and ask about the custom axles he put together for me. Long story short, the Q45 stock outboard axle ends won't work. You need FOUR of the inboard axle ends to make them work. You're more than welcome to re-invent the wheel if you want, but those of us who have the Q45, have already gone through this. Mike

All you need is the flywheel and clutch/Pressure plate/ Hydraulic clutch master/slave parts. So long as the flywheel is for that year LT1, you should be ok. Just make certain it is for an external balance 94 LTs from a Camaro. Mike

Oh Geez, Another one of those VETTE owners! You know how THEY are! Yea Grumpy, My little brother keeps trying to bait me into putting a bottle on the C5. Don't think I want to deal with constantly filling up bottles though! Mike

Actually I'm not a fan of NOS. Never have been personally, But that's just me... All motor, no complexities, and lots of fun! How about a few details on your project? Mike

Sure can. Just sign the waiver at the gate. Get there before lunch time and you can do the parade laps with the THSCC. Unfortunately our contract I thought I was going to have fell through at the last moment, so I'm still working out of the house and on a shoe string budget. Bunch of leads, but just waiting for something to pop... So I won't be there during that even. Mike

289, I'd really like to see what you end up building... Mike

It depends. I'm running the TR 224/224 114LSA cam in the Vette and I need to make sure the car will pass smog emissions testing in Virginia. I've seen some LS1 Fbody cars do bolt ons and a cam and hit right at 400HP and that is with the same TR224 cam kit above and some stock LS6 heads with minor cleanup. The earliest LS1 heads (Last three numbers are 853 on the casting) are the heads I'd stay away from now that I'm more educated on the subject... Guess what number is on the casting of my heads? Yup, Suxs to be me! Mike

Looks Good Austin. I'd tiptoe around it now that you've hit it hard once. A second time through might put you through the clear. If you do it, I'd try an unnoticable spot first by hand with the 1500/2000/3000 like Mike suggests. Not saying he is wrong (I think he's right, actually), But you've already gone over it pretty deep once. Second time might be a charm, but it might cut through too. Proceed with caution. Mike

I suggest you go to http://alteredz.com/structuralmods.htm and download his blueprints. From there, I'd go back and re-do your plan based on those blueprints and instructions. You can see pics of his frame rail design on my car at http://photos.yahoo.com/dat74z Dig through the various folder. But I'm with the others. You're using way to thick a material and you do NOT want the rail full inside the pan. It will get in the way of your feet. And after looking at Jeff's link, He pretty much did what Pete designed in his AlteredZ blueprints! Jeff! Mike

We took brand new out of the box LS1 heads that were the fisrt generation LS1 head and had them ported, and 2.02/ 1.57 valves put in. However, I didn't know the numbers on the heads at the time, and didn't realize that the LS6 head came with soooo many improvements that even though my heads are worked on, the STOCK LS6 heads are probably an improvement. On the LS series heads, Port Velocity is Critical. If you open the heads up to much, you kill the port velocity. We think that is the problem. My heads were opened up a fair amount. It's been documented over on LS1tech.com and Corvetteforum.com that the exact combo I built (but using different heads) should be well over 400WHP. Mine isn't and the only thing I've done differently than others is use those early LS1 heads, which have been documented to not flow as much as the newer LS6/ LS2 heads. All that said, I'm still making 386WHP and 382#ft. torque. However, I'd like to be in the 420WHP range like all the others running THAT combo (minus the Early LS1 head). Supposedly a blower cam and a supercharger will benefit from these heads, so when I take them off, they'll sell quickly, but who knows... I'm looking at the new Dart heads right now, But a set of worked LS6 heads would easily get me where I want to be with HP numbers. Mike

Dan is in the middle of upgrade hell. We'll have some updated software soon, and we may end up some other new features... Stay tuned. Mike

It'll be interesting to see what the F5 GTM finally comes in at. Nice car indeed. I know of a couple of corvette guys who have already placed pre-orders. Mike
