It's kinda imbarassing when you launch at the drags and hear that loud bang as your driveshaft snaps off and you have to push your car off the track! Thats why I decided to do some mods to my drivetrain. I now have a Borg warner T-5 and CV joint half shafts. I want to get larger u-joints for the DS so I brought what I have to a shop to have my DS beefed up. I have two input yokes one from my 240 and one from a z31 neither fit. One has the wrong # of teeth and the other has the right teeth but is to big to fit into the BW tailshaft. If I can find the yoke that fits I'm told it will be thin walled and have the small u-joints that I don't want. So what is everyone who is running a BW and high HP using? I Want to get back to the drags sooooooon Please help. Thanks Paul

I just installed a BW t-5 in my 240zt, I have already busted my new u-joints on the stock DS so I went to a driveshaft specialist to have a heavy duty one made. I brought him my input yoke off the 73 DS and Another input shaft from a z31 that has the bigger u-joints on it but that but niether yoke will fit in the BW. He tells me that the yoke I need only came on the automatics and it is to thin of a wall to use with this much power. The yoke from the 240 is to small and had the wrong # of teeth and the z 31 has the right # of teeth but the wall thickness won't allow it to slide into the tailshaft. Whats the deal? I know lots have done this swap but I can't find anything in the seach with anyone having this problem. Can I change out the tailshaft so I can use the thicker walled 26 count input yoke? Please help. Thanks Paul

I would have to agree with Drax, when I built my motor I wanted every possible horse I could get. Not to mention the possible damage cause to the motor when you detonate because your sucking 120 deg air while racing during the summer months. I think its crazy not to get it out in front, mine does not block my IC or my rad. Any one who knows how turbos work will tell you to put it out front! The hotter it goes in the hotter it comes out.

I guess you got the hazards to work? Did you mess with your turn signal switch(TSS)? If you did you may have done something to the switch that has affected the brake lights. You should have power on one side of the brake light switch all the time, when you apply the brake power is sent to the turn signal switch and from there it is split into left and right brake light power. If the blinker right or left turn is turned on then it opens that side(l or r ) power contact and ingages the blinker feed power, green/black or green/red. I don't have my Haynes book right now so I don't recall the color of the brake wire. I think its green. All you need to find out is where the power is being interupted. If you don't have power at the brake switch then check your fuses, if you do try moving the turn signal switch or see if you can find the brake light wire at the TSS, it will come on and off with the brake and should be there without the key on. There is one wire coming in and two going out to the lights so three total that should light up with the brake applied even when the key is off. Hope this helps and good luck lights in these cars can be a pain in the ars.

Its about the diameter of a quater but it should be and inch long or so with an L shaped plug on it.

If all your brinkers work than it is the flasher, all the lights run through the flasher switch. If you have a 240 the flasher is on the pass. side under the glove box, on the side wall (kick panel) its a round cylinder with 2 wires in a plug probably $5 at an auto parts store. Sometimes the connections in the switch is bad from not being used, you can try turnung the flashers on and off a bunch of times and see if that helps.

I saw a Z last year at the MSA show with the hatch welded , it was suttle and pretty cool. I don't think I could bring myself to do it though. I shaved my handles and that creates enough problems with accessability.

Yesterday on TLC, (I think it was called RIDES) they had a build from paper to prototype of the GR1. This is the coolest car I've ever seen. If you get the chance to watch it you'll see what I mean, they usually replay the shows a few times. I think it looks a little like the Z especially the blueovalZ. If it goes to production I may have to sell all my cars to buy one!http://cma.itgo.com/news9v7/gr1_01.jpg http://cma.itgo.com/news9v7/gr1_03.jpg

Thank God! Sorry for all you 76 280z owners. Better buy a 240 befor the price goes up and avalibility goes down!

Just to play devils advocate. What do you guys think should be done with our nations aging cars? I hate driving down the road behind some smoke belching POS. At some point old cars need to be held to some sort of standard. The way I see it pre 75 cars did'nt have much for emis controls and therefor need not be required to be smoged to keep emissions down. As the years go by the number of 30+ year old cars is increasing not to mention the total number of cars on the road. Now don't get me wrong I don't like big brother either I was the first one to post news of the rolling smog repeal, but at some point don't we need to make sure that the cars with emmision controls on them don't become smog belching pieces of s#%t????????? I like fresh air and its getting hard to find around here!

Or a brain the size of a walnut. -
So after 5 months I finally hooked up my speedo and its way off. I expected it would be off some but what the @#$@. When I'm doing 20 it says 60 when I'm doing 65-70 it says 160mph. I don't know what tranny I have other than its a 5 speed with a red speedo gear in the tranny. I am running a 3.75 lsd rear and 16/225/50s. Could it really be that far off? How can I get it closer can I just change the speedo gear or do I need to change the inner tranny gear also? I need it to be more accurate in order for the speed control on Apexi boost controller to work. Any ideas? Thanks Paul

Someone posted a really nice opel doing smokey burnouts and racing the 1/4 mile. I want to show a friend but can't find it. Any help?
-
Simply awsume!! Enjoy the shows Terry. Thats where all your hard work pays off. Just please don't come to any shows that I'm in, no seriously I hope I do see it in person some day. Are you plannig to go to the Z convention in NY or TX in the up-coming years? Hope to see you there, Paul PS What if you made the spoiler easly detachable, that way you could have it both ways since you can't make up your mind.

Well I guess it was bound to happen, I knew it was my week link even though I install heaver duty Spice u-jounts. Launced off the line at the 1/8th mile drags friday night and got some wheel hop, 20ft off the line when it went. Could have been worse, luckly I was getting ready for second and I got the clutch in befor to much damage occured. Put a new u-joint in sat but I'll need to beef it up befor I can race again. Any ideas on what I should use. I've got a 5 speed trans and a 88 lsd so I had to make a yoke to addapt the 73 driveshaft to the 88 lsd yoke. I guess I need to bring my DS to someone and have them make one that is stronger? What do you v-8 guys use?

Sell it to someone who wants a Z not someone who just wants a car. The mom probably does'nt know the danger she is putting her son in. Make a fellow zer happy. Just my opinion
