  1. I believe you can flip the mustache bar. Put it in so the part that is facing foward now is facing to the rear of the car. This will move the diff further back and should allow you to use a longer drive shaft.
  2. Pete!! Go do your pt or something. Get well first. No, really, good to see you feel like getting after the car.
  3. Well, my hard drive took a dump so I lost all my pics and the car is in the shop getting a cage. Rack was not hard to modify to accept Z parts but I would get a machine shop to drill and tap the ends to accept the larger threads of the 280zx inner tie rods. Cross member needs to be modified. Nopt sure you could do it with the engine in the car. How is it to drive? WHo knows, I've only been working on this project 2 years. Others (DOT) have completed the project and can chime in.
  4. Do one side at a time. Cut as little out as possible and fit and refit the parts going in. Take your time. Remember, cut out as little as possible. Don't go hog wild with a sawzall. Get the replacement parts in hand before you start cutting. Zedd finding is a top notch outfit.
  5. I think it was the 2002 wrx. It's been a while since these posts and I had the rack for a year or so before I started messing with it. Time flys and so does my memory. It is a wrx rack, I'm sure of that.
  6. I drilled and tapped the JTR set back plate and mounted my knock sensor there. Confirmed with a scan tool that it works just as well there as stock location.
  7. I may have some time this weekend. Let me know where and when, maybe I can show up with the pick up and the trailer if you want a shell.
  8. Nice numbers from the lt-1. What exhaust are you running and why did you by pass the knock sensor?
  9. Somebody PLEASE translate the gist of that video. I've got to know WHAT WAS HE THINKING?
  10. What Guy said. You don't want to cap that line that comes off the heads and goes thru the throttle body. OK to bypass the TB but the water/steam has to go somewhere.
  11. Hang in there Pete. I'm sure all will be fine. Take your time and do the rehab!
  12. I've had my throttle body bypassed in my Z for about 10 years. You still need to T that line into a heater hose, not just block it off.
  13. JB, what kind of pump are you using?
  14. THanks for sharing John. Looks like a fun time getting to run with other early Z cars. When are you planning to get back on track?
  15. We are out here with the 2 kids. Started the day with a sunrise service at Mathers Point. One of the top 10 sights in my life for sure. An amazing experience. Spent the day seeing what we could of the canyon. THen dinner at El Tovar with sunset for dessert. More tommorow.
  16. are you sure the ecu is seeing both 02 sensors? I have mine mounted way down stream on my 93 and it works fine.
  17. A quick search (30 seconds) turned up this. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=65446&highlight=lt-1+transmission Search some more. It's all been done before.
  18. To more solidly mount the rack, I welded a piece of angle to the bottom of the drivers side mounting point and the top clamp that bolts to the mount. Angle was wide enough to prevent side to side movement of the rack. The angle cradels the drivers side mount on the subi rack from the top and bottom. It did require some cutting. I used the borgeson U joint because it is a good bit shorter than teh subi joint and did not require any dimpling of the frame rail. It cost about $80.
  19. Welcome home, Nice job in the time trials
  20. Fastzcars, Looking good. I have a couple of questionscomments. Where did you get the fittings to replace the hard lines? I could not find a fitting of that type that was that small? 12mm if I remember correctly. I ended up using the hard lines and rebending them. A real PIA but it works now. (I've got the STI rack in my 72 240) Secondly, did you do anything to prevent left right movement of the rack? If all you've done is clamp it down with the stock Z parts, I think as you turn the wheel, the rack will slip side to side as the rubber bushings deform. Check it out and see if you agree. And finally, what did you use for a U joint and steering shaft? I ordered a joint from borgeson and welded it to the stock Z steering shaft. Splines matched sti splines. Are you going to use the Chevy pump? Just curious as how other people handeled this. Maybe with several people doing this now, each will contribute some info and make it easier for the next guy.
  21. John, Good to hear you are having fun. Too bad the weather sucked for the time trial. Looks like today will be a perfect day. Have fun and don't do like the C5. If you can hang with the mayor of Big Pine Key, you know the track. Hope to be there soon.
  22. I have not seen or heard of one. I love the idea. I used to have one. It was a great car. What a sleeper. LS1 maxima. I bet Johns cars kit would come very close to working with that generation of maxima.
  23. Congrats on onw sweeet ride. You should be proud because YOU did it.
  24. Remove the intake manifold. Then the header will come off. You need a new gasket. Good luck in dental school. Where are you going? I went to UNC, class of 87.
