  1. a little upset to find that the right front fender is a bit shorter than the factory 280z fender.. hence the large gap. anyway, i think its lookin good.. its finally coming along. all the panels have been shaved with sheet metal. the car will be sanded down and painted, then the battery tray and driver floor/frame rails will be done and the car will be "finished". any tips on replacing the weatherstripping? i bought a complete kit. the body shop guys said if i remove the hatch window and windshield, the chrome trim will have to be destroyed in the process. is this true? and another car i dream to own one day...
  2. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4559084341&category=6755 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=4559388985&category=6755 i spotted these on ebay.. he says you can buy for $15 each.
  3. not to mention those ballasts are cheaply made... the biggest problem with those "kits" is that they are HID bulbs that are placed into housings originally designed for halogen bulbs with a reflector. this causes a huge amount of glare. yes, you will get a lot of bright light but it will be scattered all over the place... i wouldnt go for it. the best bet would be a projector setup but it definately costs more for a quality setup. i'll be working on a retrofit soon.. for more HID info, check out http://www.hidplanet.com/forums
  4. this probably ISNT right.. but i'll just throw it up there just in case: have you checked the contact points on the switch? 1, 2, 3 could be dirty or something.. also, maybe the switch itself shorted out somehow. if level 4 works, then i dont think there is a problem with the blower or the A/C system.....
  5. not to hijack your thread, but what kind of cage would be necessary for NASA events and other track day type events? maybe a few autocrosses here and there, nothing too serious. i'm ini it mostly for fun, not competition (not a hugely competitive guy lol) would the JEGS suit my needs? S&W? or Autopower...
  6. 74_5.0L_Z, would you happen to have the dimensions for the other bars? nice cage you have there
  7. LOL wow I never knew this thread would get so much (negative) attention hahaha. anywho... yeah that cage pretty much made me laugh my *** off.
  8. i think its a two-step process for doors. the solenoid would pull the latch and a door popper would push it open for you. are you talking about for shaved doors? also, trunk solenoids are usually weak in comparison.. if you want something that will last, get a 40lb + solenoid. for the trunk, you would just need the solenoid to pull the latch and the hood shocks will raise the trunk up. here are some links for options on "popping" your doors. http://www.electric-life.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?id=141&sub=141&cat=Door+Thursters

  10. i would definately get a new hatch. they arent expensive at a junk yard and plus, a patch job on it with bondo would "get the job done" but would just add unnecessary weight to it... as far as the floors, as long as the frame rails are straight and solid, you are ok. POR15 has a floor repair kit that is pretty cheap and strenghtens up the floor pretty good if cutting/welding is too much $$$ or work. its been recommended by Hot Rod magazine but I can't say I or anyone I know has had any personal experience with it.
  11. yup, i have a 280z its currently at the shop so i'll have to swing by when i get a chance (maybe snap some pics) to see exactly what type of ignition system its running. i really dont know too much about all this so i really appreciate your input.
  12. since dual point distributors are fully mechanical, would this qualify as a mechanical advance dizzy or is it something totally different? i'm having trouble finding a good used ZX dizzy and came upon a mallory dual point unit for a good price, could i use it or just keep looking for a ZX unit?
  13. is this "deal" still going on? 1 yrs worth of GRM and the discount on the wheels sounds awesome. i need some rims in 17x10 though.. is that possible?
  14. if anyone wants to trade/sell me for the MSA part# 50-1412.. I have MSA part# 50-1409 in primer form and I can get airdamn pictured above i would also need a fiberglass 240z replica bumper and turn signals to complete it right?
  15. lol, but which one is that one above.. (not the one mounted on the car)? the MSA airdam is the one i want, but if this will look/fit similar, then i'll go ahead and do it b/c its local and much cheaper.
  16. never saw it as being a counterweight, but i got a nice solid chrome ball to go with the vintage theme in my car. it has a nice solid feel to it and got it for $35 shipped!
  17. yep, thats the one i want. there seems to be some variation to the airdam in the other pics though. i've never seen one that had extruding brake ducts. do you think it will look as nice as the one in the pic? i would like to pair it with some 240z bumpers and ZG flares just like that car in the first picture.
  18. i'm very interested in this one.. i want the MSA one like the car in the first pic (actually, i want that entire car lol) and there is a guy selling a *similar* one. what do you think it will look like on my 280z and how much do you think its worth? not sure if its FG or urethane. my inspiration the lip for sale
  19. http://forums.audiworld.com/lrqc/msgs/41036.phtml interesting thread.. seems there were 9 or 10 failures all from HRE brand wheels in this race so the decision was made that these wheels aren't safe. i guess its safe i'm not going to save up for those!
  20. i heard wrapping the header will eventually cause it to rust.. unless its stainless i guess. the condensation will get locked in. just a thought. on a side note, you still havent installed that fuel rail?! lol. do you still have that fuel cell, i might want to buy it from you...
  21. nothing will ever beat the OEM tolerances... hit up the junk yard for steel fenders..
  22. i think the only difference can be found on the coupe vs. 2+2. i bought a tranny from an 81ZX coupe to go into my busted '78 tranny and the flywheel matched up perfectly. the 2+2 has a larger diameter flywheel.. something like 225 for the coupe and 240 for the 2+2.
