  1. Mine are Impul R5s which are basically rebadged Work Equips' date=' [img']http://www.v8zcar.com/s30z/sm%20zcca-04-06-19-0032.jpg[/img] OWEN
  2. Right, which is why I mentioned braking. Aside from repeated hard braking like on a course, I think a street car may not need one, tho having one wouldn't hurt. The other difference between auto and manual is that not only are you lifting between shifts, you're most likely accelerating hard too. So with an auto, accelerating hard and not lifting, any excess boost is handled by the wastegate, so again, a BOV may not be necessary. I have a line on an turbo engine and auto tranny, but I like manuals and I WANT the BOV sound! Owen
  3. Hey guys, Does a turboed engine with an automatic tranny need a blow off valve? My thinking is that there will be no lifting off the gas with the auto, so there will be no reverse flow of air back to the compressor. I guess it couldn't hurt for those sudden braking manuevers etc. when I have to let off the gas... Thanks, Owen
  4. I thought he was just talking about chromoly... If ya want chrome, try mirrachrome instead, it's just paint. Owen
  5. The pictures posted don't look too distorted...to me anyway. I mean, the inside of the lens is textured to allow incandescent light to fill the whole assembly right? Modern cars (not all of them) using LEDs as OEM have lenses that appear to be flatter and clearer (they don't have that bumpy pyramid-shaped texture on the inside). So, for 30 year old lenses, that may have or have not been cleaned up, and using a different light focusing technique, the results don't look too bad. If I ever do follow thru with my tail lite project, I plan to make brand new lenses somehow. Owen
  6. Hey Mike, Some buds and I were talking, maybe the foam in a spray can from Home Depot, etc. may work? Beats trying to glue square pieces of foam together... I replied to your PM, and unfortunately no, I won't be in the Z. Owen
  7. I thought that was just the springs in your bucket seats! Now I understand you more! Seriously, most important for me, I have to like it. I'm not building the car to impress anyone, win car shows, be cool etc. Owen
  8. The ones I have are Wangan Midnight (Japan only) PS2 and Touge Max (Japan only?) PS1. Anything in GT3 or 4? Owen
  9. Yes, they are custom. I know some places make them but couldn't find ones that I liked. http://www.v8zcar.com/s30z/aero-hood-pt1.htm There's 3 or so pages. Owen
  10. I was gonna ask but thought better of it:-) Owen
  11. I avoided carbon fiber for two reasons, one is too much money, and two is too modern looking for my tastes, especially with the ricer craze. Painting the dash cap etc. the same as the exterior would have been pretty wild tho! You mentioned imperfections, flat black will still show them. I would primer, sand, then paint, either gloss or flat black. I'm gonna be in SD on Jan 25th for a meeting, and somewhere in Carlsbad too. If you're around, I'd like to check out your project. Owen
  12. Mike I see you're from SD, so I know you must own a pair of sunglasses! I don't know if you've seen my dash, but I've painted mine gloss black and I've never had a problem with glare. Plus it looks cool at nite with the street lamps reflecting off it! Owen
  13. I'm building the dam myself and what is pictured is actually the negative mold, still unfinished. I was thinking of doing what Terry described, mounting same as the MSA dam but adding two bars, parallel or triangulated back to the front cross member. Maybe I should use tie wraps like some racers, a crash would tear off the dam but prevent damage to the body...but I don't want to lose my air dam at every bump either! Since they will still be connected to the headlight buckets maybe some added reinforcement to the back of the bucket area as well? Just tack weld in a strip of metal? Owen
  14. Currently in progress The lip came out smaller than expected but I'll have to really fit it on the car before I decide if I like it or not. wen
  15. Modern looking is cool, but I'm trying not to go overboard (anyone feel free to stop me! ) but I also want to avoid the "been there, done that...bought that" syndrome. So I'm slowing replacing my exterior parts with custom ones. I don't want people to look at my car and think, "that's the MSA airdam..." I want them to ask, "where the hell did you get that???". If I could start from scratch I'd do a wider body, but no time for that now. I also chose to leave the chrome, cars today simply look like painted boxes or eggs. I'm talking the affordable cars of course...Just my humble opinion. Owen
  16. Yeah, that makes sense...so I guess what I was reading is that the metal tab on the strut housing breaks off when undergoing forces of a larger bar. Owen
  17. I did some checking and I think it's actually mounted off a little metal tab on the body rather than the strut. Shouldn't be too hard to do on a Z, just make it strong enough. This should solve the concern about the bending of the threaded adjuster of the adjustable control arms? Owen
  18. And where do people get those cone shaped spacers? On the inboard side of the LCA in the above pic. Owen
  19. If I ever do something like this I plan on using Mike Kelley's design, which uses the out board side of the stock LCA and the stock mounts of the TC rods. One thing about the sway bar mounting, how is it mounted in the BMW previously linked? Is it mounted to the strut tube? Owen
  20. Yeah, that's what I do since I was too cheap to buy the tool. Just tighten, check, tighten, check. Stop stalking me! Owen
  21. Hey, are you stalking me or something??? Owen
  22. My T&A pics vs your Tee - Vee pics! I think the picture shows the bulges quite well...ahem! Stick to the topic please! Owen
