Pete, What is a good tool? Mine is the $10 one from Harbor Freight It works fine but after watching a video on tubing, I discovered that I wasn't getting the double inverted flare, just a single one. There's also ISO flares and standard flares right? ISO for import cars was it? Owen

I'm using Hooker's ceramic coated huggers and they work just fine. No shaving or milling needed at all. I first tried a set of Dynomax huggers and couldn't get the spark plugs in, even short ones. Others have used long tube headers but there are various ground clearance issues. Ask Tim240Z about his issues with the SS headers and the T56 tranny. Owen

Judas Priest Breakin the Law, Hell Bent for Leather, Freewheel Burnin. Beach Boys, "she's so fine, my 409"? and "you don't know what I got"? forgot the titles but know the track numbers. Offspring, definitely Bad Habit Also, Killboy Powerhead and Gotta Get Away. Anyone care to share? I'd definitely like to hear some of these other songs. I hope someone keeps this post alive til Monday, or email me! Owen

Interesting about only the outer one being effective in suspension movement. "As the rear of the car goes up and down, what is to prevent the axle from pulling out partially from the diff" The axle won't pull out because it sits inside the diff flange which is bolted to the diff with 6 bolts. This is copied to the other side and an adapter is used to mate it to the 4 bolts of the stub axle flange. Some pix, http://www.v8zcar.com/s30z/r230.htm The outer CV is a shaft and won't fit into the Datsun suspension. So, the axle will still move while the suspension compresses, it will just slide back and forth between the two 6-bolt CV flanges, if it's short enough. Reminder to self, put a stopper between inner flange and diff output flange, that tiny metal cover COULD pop out if the suspension is compressed too much. Owen

Bleeding new brake master cylinder
Owen replied to QWKDTSN's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
What is the advantage of the Speed Bleeders? Do they NOT suck air back in when you release the brake pedal? What happens when you use these with pressure/vacuum bleeders? Are they just a waste of money if you have the Speed Bleeders? Howz this thing? http://www.motiveproducts.com/index.htm Only $45 for the import model. Could probably be copied real easily too. My vacuum bleeder sucks, I always get bubbles from the threads of the shut off valve which confuses me with air in the system. Owen -
David, It's nice that you tried to help someone and it sucks that you got yelled at, chastised, whatever. But like Tim said, let it go, what are you, the Salvation Army and Red Cross? Greenpeace? Forget the fighting, if you really want to help this guy, email him direct. And as for defending Hybrid, you may have taken it as a personal blow to your own self. But we can't be chasing every single kid who calls us a name. "the kid down the street's brother's friend's sister's stepdad said we are dumb!" C'mon, let it go! Were you expecting us to jump in below you (thread-wise) and start a rally??? Over something like this??? If someone said that Hybridz only had members who raped children, then that would be looking out for the group. What you did is tattle-telling. Don't believe me, look at the topic of this thread! All of us should keep in mind when defending, praising, describing Hybrid to others, that it might be best left to the moderators and those members who have been here longer. Owen

I was just looking for a T56 roller bearing on the net last nite (thx for picking it up for me from PAW Tim!) and I know I saw info on the T56 and Fords. Here's one that might help. http://www.drivetrain.com/fordt56inst.html http://www.ffcobra.com/FAQ/transmission.html The 2003 model comes with one? http://mustangworks.com/autonews/arc0-2002.html Owen

This is for the computer geeks, i fell out of my chair laugh
Owen replied to auxilary's topic in Non Tech Board
I swear the first time I saw this post, the picture didnt show! I still don't think it's that funny, I hate real player Owen -
AN, I was thinking the same thing. The longest thread of all time! Or maybe there's a couple of L6 vs V8 bashing and thrashing threads that went on longer. Or maybe the pledge of allegiance thread??? Anyway, I like those newer Caddy lites too. Until I saw one with some blown LEDs, then it just looked like crap. I bet you have to replace an entire assy. just for one blown LED. Owen

Pictures of Ross' 240SX rear disk swap stuff
Owen replied to QWKDTSN's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Nion, I'm having the same problems as you. With the e-brake AND the camera. My camera is being repaired now... Anyway, I have two questions for anyone using this stuff. I shoulda asked Dave while we were at Tim240z's house. 1. Ebrake cable, has a brass or copper fitting on the end which the cable goes thru. One side is bare metal while one side has the push-on hose over it. What side mounts up against the wheel-side of the caliper arm? I tried it two ways and still can't seem to get the horse shoe clip to hold the cable in place. I don't have the 240SX horse shoe clip so maybe that's the prob. When I have the metal fitting flush against the diff-side of the ebrake arm, it doesn't stick out far enough for me the install a clip. 2. Cotter pin. I received on long cotter pin per side. Is this supposed to go thru both holes of the two posts? Or does each post need it's own pin? Hope someone can give some answers. Thanks! Owen -
Eric, If you could post that article or email it to me, I would also be very interested in it. As for the refraction patterns, I saw in some local store a lens repair sheet kit that had the patterns in them. Maybe this stuff can be plastic welded to the body of your custom lenses? I guess it would depend a lot on the shape though... Owen

An Alexander County, Missouri Deputy pulled a car over on I-57 about 2 miles north of the Missouri -Arkansas state line. When the Deputy asked the driver why he was speeding, the driver answered that he was a magician and a juggler and he was on his way to Branson to do a show that night and didn't want to be late. The deputy told the driver he was fascinated by juggling, and if the driver would do a little juggling for him that he wouldn't give him a ticket. The driver told the deputy that he had sent all of his equipment on ahead and didn't have anything to juggle. The deputy told him that he had some flares in the trunk of his squad car and asked if he could juggle them. The juggler stated that he could, so the deputy got three flares, lit them and handed them to the juggler. While the man was doing his juggling act, a car pulled in behind the squad car, a drunk got out and watched the performance briefly; he then went over to the squad car, opened the rear door and got in. The deputy observed him doing this and went over to his squad car, opened the door and asked the drunk what he thought he was doing. The drunk replied, "Might as well take me on to jail, there's no way I can pass that test.

Daily driver, 1 hour 15 minutes one each way. Focus on low end torque in order to keep the idiots from cutting in front of me in rush hour. Performance driving includes launches at the on-ramp stop lights and carving the on/ramp curves when the light isn't on Owen

Scottie, Thanks for the info. Your car's lookin good, by the way! Now are those rules for a certain class or a certain trap speed? Owen

I'm not exactly sure which of the Z32s used the R230 VLSD, but here's one for pretty cheap. http://www.sr20parts.com/parts.html#sr20parts Z32 LSD differential This is an LSD-equipped differential pulled from a '92 or newer Z32. It supposedly had a bad bearing, but seems to spin and work fine. New bearing set from Nissan will cost under 60-70 dollars. This unit should fit in an S14 with little work. (images to be added soon) Quantity: 1 Status: in stock Price: $120.00

There was a discussion a while ago on which boxes really track legal. So you might want to look into that Scottie. Someone told me my blue Moroso box isn't track legal cuz it's plastic... Owen

I have those locks on my 73, you're right the lettering around the locks are ugly but I plan to black them out. I lost the trunk lock so I'm looking for an alternative rather than buying another set of APC's just to have them match. Any suggestions anyone? BTW, I have clear sidemarkers too , and a 5-inch exhaust tip that Tim240Z wishes he had but can't bring himself to do it! "It only looks like rice until you smell the burnt rubber" Owen

A shop in my area is doing a SR20DET swap (240sx turbo), it's a 4-banger and capable of 300hp easy. The engine for the rear wheel drive config. is the same as the stock Z mounting. I hope to get close one day and see how the motor mounts were done. The rest is easy, look for a driveshaft shop in your area. AFTER you've mounted your trans and diff of choice and measured more than once. Owen

My question goes back to the subject of this thread, "worth the hassle". I'm in CA too and have already failed the first two requirements given above. But I wasn't planning on going to a ref. station anyway... "But officer, this V8 came as an option back in 1973!" Owen
-
Are you trying to draw a side to side flow vs a flow-in-and-return-out-the-same-side IC? Since the IN and EX of the RB are on opposite sides of the engine, why not go with a side to side (crossflow) IC? Owen
-
Driveshaft will most likely be custom no matter what kind of swap you do. The rearend, you have a couple of easy choices with the R200 and R200LSD, and with a little custom work, the R230VLSD can be used. So this will probably be the least problematic of this swap. BTW, why the Mitsu engine? Owen

I hear ya Tim, I don't see how you get anything done on the car but then you come up with the taillight conversion and sweet as electrical wiring block, you da man. As for James, you just gotta prioritize. I've given up bodyboarding, skateboarding, snowboarding, computer graphics, play station, etc. I only see my friends when they stop by my house! I've been working on mine for 3 years, no kids but am married, and working full time cuz we're a single income family. A lot of the 3 years is due to slow working and indecision about how to proceed on certain things, this includes making modifications way too late in the process. Owen

Hmmm, I've had a lot of bad luck but no real huge mistakes. No...I take that back BAD 1. Using too much silicone sealant on the engine which ended up getting squished inside, melting into the oil, and then coating the cylinder walls, thereby seizing the pistons. No damage though! 2. Not being patient and jumping on the first thing I see. Went from stock front brakes, to the 4x4 Toyo and 300ZX rotor/280ZX rear setup, then to 5-lugs all the way around. Sold most of the stuff but still have the 4lug 300ZX + spacers for sale. 3. Buying a Craftsman welder... 4. Somehow killing 3 starter motors during attempted startup/break-ins. 5. Spraying clear coat on from too far away and ending up with major orange peel. 6. Buying a damper install/remove tool from Kragen (what's the status on that Tim?) 7. Not hammering the trans tunnel enough for my T56. 8. Having parents who open the garage door and forget to close it at night...Missing: 1 Rotozip, 1 DA sander, 1 distributor, 1 air ratchet, 1 Peugot 12-speed bike, etc etc. GOOD 1. Starting this forum 3 years ago. 2. Asking LOTS of questions. 3. Selling as much no-longer-used stuff as possible. 4. Returning/exchanging as much broken stuff as possible! 5. Reading other sites on other cars to get as much technical info as possible. So, 3 years and she still ain't running! Owen

it's mostly a honda thing but what about those guys with the ford or chevy trucks who get the clear tail lights for them? this must mean theyre even lower than ricers cuz theyre copying the fad instead of avoiding it!
