  1. Ahh, you're installing the Painless Wiring fuse box only?...after straining my eyes to read the Datsun wiring diagrams, I changed my mind and ripped out the whole dang thing and installed the 18-circuit harness with fusebox. Even now when I have wiring trouble, I can just look at the wire and identify it very easily because each is colored, labeled/numbered, and divided into sections. If it's not too late you may want to do this. Owen
  2. That's what I was gonna do, mix and match. The more time it takes for someone to steal my wheels the better. How about one of those big center-nuts like they use in F1 and stuff? I've seen a Skyline that had it, this guy had this huge long wrench to turn it! owen

    mufflers-what to run???

I went for the looks first....Apex'i "Dunk" muffler. 3-inches in, 5-inches out! I can stick my foot into the tailpipe no problem. Height-wise I could fit a regular soft drink can in it.... http://www.homestead.com/s30z/files/exhaust.htm Amazing how small it looks in the pictures I had to enlarge the stock muffler hole in the back valance to fit the tip in. Haven't fired her up yet though...can't wait! Owen
  4. So is your cell sitting in the spare tire well? Or on top of it? I don't know about mounting the battery under the car though...sounds like it could cause a stir at safety inspections. Imagine that thing go flyin off on the freeway! (Co-worker just had something rip into her oil and trans pans) I didn't go with a battery cutoff cuz I didn;t want to lose my radio stations J/K, it was just something I missed and may add later. As for CG, depending on how and where you drive, it might be better behind the seats as some here have done. Owen
  5. Is this with the stock wiring? Even with my new Painless Wiring harness installed I had weird problems. My guess is it's the connections within the bulb sockets themselves, sometimes a good whack will turn them on (or keep them from turning on) I've since replaced my bulbs and sockets with the 3157 style (wedge type) and I'm amazed everytime they turn on, even though thats what they're supposed to be doing! Owen
  6. I had that problem too, even with the so called "right" mounts. Ended up ordering 2 different kinds and finally got one that fit. Do like he said and go physically see the parts. Owen
  7. Wow, gettin clocked in the head with a battery is a good way to put things into perspective! Mine is the blue Moroso box but it is bolted down inside the box as well. How much different can the aluminum box be from a plastic one in terms of safety? Oh well, like my other issues, I'll change it when I need to one day... Owen

    Wiggle it

Thanks Pete! Damn don't you hate it when you're at work and you still have hours to go until you can go home just to check something on your car? Owen

    Wiggle it

I'm looking for the wire that controls the park lites (1/2 turn on headlight switch). I'm pretty sure this wire comes out of the turn signal/headlight switch assy. I have the headlights wired already. Owen
  10. Hmm, can't judge from the posts whether I did it wrong or not. I do know there is a brake line "block" on the firewall above the tunnel. And a rear brake line thing on the rear above the differential. Don't know which one is the prop valve now... Well, I'm not gonna pull the engine and trans just to do this unless it is a major safety issue, haven't even started the car yet If it is, I'm gonna run the brake lines through the ****pit... Owen
  11. My understanding is the that prop valve is used to balance the pressure to front and rear. And that I want the fronts to lock just before the rears. If the fronts always braked full force, that would be rather dangerous as well as inefficient on a racing circuit wouldn't it? It would be too hard to control the car if it nosedived every single time. I forgot to ask but thanks for reminding me, do I need to plug the stock holes in the stock p-valve? owen
  12. I put the APV inline on the front brakes, tell me I did this right...you'll kill me if you say I did it wrong cuz it was originally on the rear brake circuit! THX. Owen
  13. Great...just great...you mean that lil blue box in my car wont let me pass tech??? What about a sealed Optima in the batt box? Oh, wait....I forgot, they don't have tech inspections at the street races! Owen
  14. Stupid headlight relay...I can turn on the headlights from the engine room just by wiggling the connectors on the relay! Anyone know of some "real" heavy duty relays instead of the ones simply labeled as heavy duty? Thanks, Owen PS If anyone can tell me where and what color the wire is for the parking lights on a '73 240Z, I will be eternally greatful! I have the drive lights and high beams and such but can't find the dang park lights wire! I really need the park lites for when I'm creepin in parking lots or along dark streets... 15. Whereya been Mike? Did you download that picture I uploaded for you? BTW, speaking of fuel cell homes (houses?) theres a good picture of one in those magazine cutouts I gave you at the show. Yours is just flush with the floor with no cover right? Owen
  16. Thanks Pete, I know you mentioned that before and I'll keep it in mind. Wish I had extra pieces so I don't have the take the stuff off my car to do measurements...planning to go the the junkyards again once I get paid. Sucks being poor... Owen
  17. Interesting, seen that on some Pike's Peak modded cars as well as circuit-based cars in Japan. A couple had the assemblies mounted horizontally across the floor, what's the advantage to this? Maybe its lower ride height with increased shock stroke? I hope someone knows the answer. Owen
  18. Good question. Does anyone have the measurements for the R200? Owen
  19. Wouldn't that be cool if the R180 bar ended up being exactly the right size for the R230? I'm gonna be checking the junkyards next week or so for it as well as 280 comp flanges and stubs. Mark, do you have any measurements on your axles? Thanks, Owen
  20. I know I need to do some re-drilling of the mustache bar for my R230 but I don't have the R200 bar. Can I just redrill the R180 bar? Or is there a strength difference bewteen the two? Owen
  21. What kind of fan are you going to run? I have the Black Magic one in the JTR book, it bolts to the radiator support "wall" and I have no top mounts at the moment because its pretty rigid. It's like a staple where the legs pierce the wall (paper) but there is no support at the top (there is for the bottom). Should I be worrying about not having the top mount? Owen
  22. You'd probably spin the smaller tires even more. But you can affect your reaction time by deep stagin or not. For affecting overall time isn't the 60footer the most important? Owen
  23. My solenoid is in the same place as yours, under the right inspection lid. I was wondering, if I got vented ones, would there be a safety problem with water getting on the wiring... The 6AL is mounted inside the ****pit on the wall of the right passenger footwell. One day I'm gonna make a wiring diagram for my own car since it's a rats nest. Almost makes me appreciate the stock wiring. I'm almost tempted to rip it all out, but no...forget it! Owen
  24. I knew I had it wrong...But I've already got a bunch of stuff attached to the C terminal (BATT) gonna have to do some more rewiring I guess. Thanks. Owen
  25. The T-Bird end is used on the Monster Miata too, I was asking around a couple of months ago but never got any replies... Sorry if thats been mentioned already, I just jumped to the bottom of the thread. Owen
