  1. Sealant on the threads of flare fittings is useless. If you want to, put a small film of sealant on the flare's mating surfaces being carefull not to get even the smallest amount inside. I use a product called "Leak Lock". It is specificly for sealing refrigarant fittings and is designed for the temperatures, oils, and refrigarants that are in A/C systems. The stuff is great. I've never had a fitting leak when I've used it. You will probably have to go to a HVAC supply house to get it. You can buy it in a small four ounce tube for a few dollars. If that's all you're getting and throw cash on the counter I'm sure no one will give you a hard time.
  2. Fabulous, Terry! The stripes help to show the depth of your roll pan, VERY DEEEEEP! Has nobody noticed the missing spoiler? Maybe because it looks so good even without one?
  3. My local Napa store quoted me $46. Not really a Z only part.
  4. Looks like a billet stein for sharing your beer with a few friends. "I'll take the straw on the bottom, thank you." Seriously, nice job. Looks to be about twice as big as you should need though. Aluminum?
  5. It shouldn't hurt anything. I'd use brake cleaner instead. Leaves less stuff behind. If it were me though, I'd just replace it and not take any chances. They're not that expensive and there are other things that can go wrong with them that you can't see just by looking. Most important thing you can do is insure all the parts are very clean on the inside. One grain of sand size partical can plug the expansion valve.
  6. There's always the JTR latch. But you probably have already seen that. If not here it is.
  7. You're funny Terry. If you ever make it out to California stop at my place. We'll get a six pack and the both of us can get completely bombed. Oh ya. Yup, just an off the shelf '77-'78 hood. Those vents will work on your 240 hood too though. Just cut some holes and stick 'em on. That 3M tape is incredibly strong. Lot of guys don't trust it but I bet if you preped the surfaces right it would stick for good. GM, Ford and every other carmaker uses it to hold stuff to their cars. I should talk. I embedded studs in mine like Nissan did. Was a pain in the butt. Next time I'll use the tape.
  8. ROTFL!!! I see it! I see it too! Unintended consequences? Or... Don't feel bad Terry. I had to change my first set of mufflers due to, uh... unanticipated resemblance to certain body parts. Ask Alex. He even has pics.
  9. Tim, show him your vents. Tim's vents are really cool. Here are a couple shots of the Reaction Research vents on my car.
  10. Any chance you could take a few pics of the mounts on the car without the motor and tranny in? And this is without cutting the steering shaft, right? If the only sacrifice is stock exhaust manifolds you may have come up with cleanest install for the SBF I've seen yet. Hope you have patterns and measurements. Are you going carb or EFI?
  11. Dang! Now I'll have to give you back the "Prettiest Blue Z" trophy. Just kidding. I've been looking forward to this day. Now I can't razz you anymore about your "sickness". I remember that there was a rumor going around that you had considered another color for a while. Maybe something in a dark red or maroon. Any truth?
  12. That's basicly it. Brute force won't help. Take that other bolt out. It's keeping the tranny at an angle to the block and not allowing the input shaft to align with the pilot bearing. No tricks or secrets. Just keep at it untill you get lucky. I hate that part. But just when I think I've had enough and decide to give up, POP, it drops in. Just make sure when it does you have that bolt ready! Nothing more frustrating that fighting with it for an hour only to have it slip out again.
  13. Reaction Research has several body kits for the first gen Z car: SubtleZ. 280YZ, a 944ish kit, ect. All have full fiberglass front fenders, airdam and hood options as well as fiberglass rear over-fenders. http://www.reactionresearch.com/automotivedetails.htm As far as a smoothed out rear valance, that's a custom deal. The 280Z doesn't have the bumper indents on the rear fenders like the 240Z does, so it's easier to smooth out. Remove the bumper, weld up the holes and smooth it out with filler.
  14. Dan, i'm glad your wife found it amusing. Was she laughing at me on behalf of all the hot women out there who will never get in my car, compliment me, and pump my gas? I think it's that your ability to fantasize about Z cars (pushed to to edge of credibility) is only surpassed by your ability to fantasize about woman (well over the edge of absurdity).
  15. As mentioned earlier, four out of five reverse gears would be useless. Even if you wanted to go 60mph in reverse (I know, I know) you would prematurely wear out your tranny and rearend driving the backside of the gears. On the Corvair note: I know a guy that was working on a V6 swap into a Corvair and he was using a reverse rotation marine engine.
  16. One ride and they all become converts!
  17. Larry you animal. Just what you needed, eh? BTW, have you got a blown small block in that Datsun pick-up?
  18. Thanks from me also Rick. I've been reading with interrest and your last post has made me think, "what about us V8 guys that have a 80 amp GM alternator and the stock 240Z amp meter"? Are we running the same risks?
  19. Your brake and fuel lines will be fine. I also surf with a Mac, much safer. Upgrade to system 9.2 and get a mouse with two buttons and you'll be chillin'. I have Netscape 7 and IE on my Mac and I find Netscape to be faster and less bothersome.
  20. Yes, Michael Moore, the epitome of truth and balance.
  21. You've got to appreciate to fab work that went into the gull wing doors.
  22. You're so rude! How about: ICBM Z It's "the bomb", baby.
