  1. Very nice Larry. That nose gives the cooling system a much bigger opening to breath through.
  2. I'm going to take a wild guess and say the car was standing still when this happened?
  3. Short answer is no. Every interior part in a '77 is different from a '72. But hey this is Hybrid, and if you are creative you can do it. Biggest challenge in the electrical if you're thinking of swapping dashs.
  4. Couple months back (maybe longer) someone posted pics of their chromed stock grill. I couldn't decide whether I liked it or not. I painted my stock grill the body color but I still don't have anything in the lower section. Was thinking of getting a lower grill from a 280 and painting it like the upper. Eh, can't decide. Waiting for something to grab me.
  5. WONGWAY Had a teacher in high school named Wong. I used to walk into the middle of her classes and say, "Opps, wong woom". Guess you get that a lot, sorry. I like DV8D Z. I may snag that one myself. Although Alex has already named my Z. Now how do you get Blue Bullit on a seven letter tag?
  6. No wonder those suckers are so heavy. It's not the metal, it's the oil! And that really is a bone head thing for a driveline shop to say. Any reputable shop would books for these things. Should make you question whether these guys should be doing work on your car's parts.
  7. Wasn't it like two TBI type throttle bodys set at opposing sides of the intake manifold? The stumbling half step between TBI and TPI.
  8. Pawlease!!! I haven't heard that word in decades. BTW, I was there. All the real hippies I know are republicans now.
  9. Much prettier than the first set Mike. Have you got pics of the other side? Put me on the list for a pair. It may be years before they get used but I'll have them anyway.
  10. Looks sharp! But hey buddy, don't put up with poor work. If the paint job is blotchy take it back and make them fix it. The longer you have it the more you'll notice it.
  11. I believe Mike Dennis, a.k.a. BOTIZ, was fabbing those for him. Might want to drop Mike a PM.

Yes. Here is a shot of Jim Darnells car. Picture by Eric Neyerlin of Zparts.com
  13. Hey Jay, go for it! Wouldn't bother me at all. Sincerest form of flattery and all that rot. In fact do a better job than I did. In the end I had to completely redesign the rear end from the hatch down for the lights to fit right. If I were to do it again I would make the rearend longer, integrate a bumper or a bumper like shape. Kind of like the Z32 rearend. The worst veiw of my car is a direct side shot. The wide body makes the back side look stubby. Others are currently working on their own SubtleZ/280YZ combos. I get e-mails every now and then asking for advice. I know I'm not the first to get the idea. Just the first to finish it. Others are also working on the Z32 taillight swap too. Considering how much work it is I'd say go for the 180SX lights. I don't know anybody doing that. I looked at them. They have a lot more curve in them. It might just be the perfect match because you would really need to extend the rear to blend them in right. Good luck Jay.
  14. Thanks for the report Gary. I plan on making it to that meet next year.
  15. Jason, living in California I always think of the lawyers first. Granted, you live in Texas but think about it. You have documented your concerns on a public forum before selling the car to this 17 year old kid. You know the cars potential and you have judged the youth's skills as wanting. A not too far fetched scenario: Kid buys your car and dies during a speed contest with one of his peers. Mother's lawyer holds up a printout of this very thread to the jury. Do you really want to roll those dice?
  16. Back on topic: I don't know a bunch about the old front drive Caddies so help me out. If he is using the original transaxle but then firing one of the axles back to a conventional (albeit with a highly offset diff) live axle, then what is he doing with the other axle stub? EDIT: Opps, those engines were mounted longitudely (sp). Soooo, is there a separate diff mounted directly to the tranny in the stock configuration that your buddy removed? Maybe another pic of the motor from the other side would help.
  17. Hope you are at the Shasta meet this weekend. I imagine that would be the place to hook up with some NorNorCal guys.
  18. What's the matter Terry? Car getting too close to being finished? There is a pathology to all this. It's called Old Lady Winchester syndrome. Ernie was right! We have some sick people on this site. Terry won't finish his car and Tim won't drive his. All in good fun, guys.
  19. Sounds like it's the body damage that did it. But an interresting bit of trivia: Some insurance companies, CSAA (the California AAA) among them offer mechanical coverage as well. I had a friend that was an adjuster and he totaled out a beautiful 914 because the tranny scrambled. He had no choice. The price to replace it was more than the book value of the car. The owner was not happy.
  20. Get back to that meeting bro. You ain't done yet!
  21. I'm I the only one with discipline on this board!?!?!?! SHEESH!
  22. Best place to mount any mechanical fuel pressure gauge is on the other side of the windshield. Mount it inside the cabin and a failure of the gauge or the line has a high probability of being catastrophic and/or fatal. This goes double for an FI system due to the higher pressures. Burning is at the absolute bottom of my "List of ways I'd chose to die".
