  1. The Camaro line has the roll pin connections on both ends, it's a one piece part, not a fitting. And fitting the odd shaped Camaro master so you can then use the Camaro line is much more difficult than the mods to the Camaro slave and using AN fittings and lines. If you're worried about cutting and tapping the plastic slave get one of the aluminum ones now available. Cutting a little off the rod takes like five minutes with a hacksaw. And the tread pitch difference is truly negligible. The metric nut screws right on the SAE rod. But I think I read that someone here just swapped the rods to the Datsum master and it worked fine. I may be in error though on that last point.
  2. It depends on how much slot you have in the motor mount towers. Mine sits within 3/8" of the firewall (when it's actually in the car) but I can move it almost an inch forward in the slots.
  3. Sounds wise. Start with a solid foundation.
  4. Certainly posible. I may be a tremendous amount of work for a result you may be disapointed with, but certainly posible. Have you done any photoshop prototyping?
  5. If it's just a weekend warrior the stock fuel tank is more than adequate. Just replace the missing fuel vent lines. All new lines are available and cheaper than a fuel cell. Then you don't have to give up hatch space or a spare tire well. JMHO
  6. Thank you for the kind words. There's not much to look at right now. I tore it down a couple years ago to correct some issues and then the economy went in the toilet. I'm at a point now where I can't go any farther with out some cash outlay. I can't justify spending money on a hobby when we're just squeaking by paying the basic bills. So it sits on jack stands with the motor on an engine stand in the garage waiting patiently for the cash to flow again. I'd be happy to have you over if you want to look at a pile of parts and shoot the bull. Send me a PM and we'll make a date.
  7. Why not just order a new kit from JTR? The kit is cheap and you know you're getting new quality parts that fit.
  8. A Datserati! That would be very cool. Probably way expensive and a pain to keep tuned, but way up there on the coolness scale.
  9. Welcome to Hybridz. Read the rules, use the search function, FAQ's...
  10. Your country town is the big city we go to for civilization! Ice rink, movie theater, shopping malls and a Lowe's. None of those in Rio VIsta 40 minute away. Welcome to the neighborhood. Vacaville is the home of a V8 Velo Rossa in process. Other Hybridzers around too. Since you're here come to Bass Derby/Festival next weekend in Rio. Saturday morning is a big car show. It's so packed they shut down Main St. from Fifth St. all the way to the river.
  11. Keep an eye out on John Washington’s site www.reactionresearch.com . He occasionally has finished cars listed for sale there as well as kits and projects.
  12. What is the end result you're trying to get to? Better brakes? Five lugs? Adjustable suspension? There are other options for the S30 thst have the bugs worked out and are more proven. I think the guys who pursued the Z31 spindle swap were looking for a cheap alternative. But often, the search to find a cheap solution can end up the most expensive route by the time all the bugs are worked out.
  13. If your decision on whether or not to buy this car is the welded diff don't worry about it. Open R200's are plentiful and cheap and easy to change out. Look at the rest of the car. If it's a straight, solid, rust free car and everything else is as you want then buy it and swap out the diff. JMHO.
  14. True. But Ross also reinforces the two holes that come out close to the edge of the hub. Don't want to quell the DIY spirit here. Just seems like a deal to me for a proven, precision product. Maybe I'm getting old!
  15. You should do some searching on the topic. Lots of info here. Bottom line: This is not a "workbench/hand drill" job. If you don't own a mill the best thing to do is buy a pair from Ross. I doubt you could find a machine shop that would do it for less. http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=32_53&products_id=64
  16. Please! Don't you watch the Simpsons? Speed holes aren't drilled. They're made with a pick axe. Although, purists still use a rifle with scope.
  17. Well that cable is the one that came on the GM motor plus a fitting from Lokar and a bicycle brake cable adjuster. Lokar sells universal cables and parts/fittings.
  18. A little bulgie... Here are 305/50/15's on 10" rims. http://www.reactionresearch.com/280yz/danjuday/danjuday.html
  19. You can do it two ways: Cable connected directly to the pedal arm, or cable connected to the firewall bellcrank. From the bellcrank is an easier conversion. This links to a picture of my bellcrank/cable set-up. http://www.zparts.com/showcase/djudayv8proj/shoot2/pages/11DJ_R2_.htm
  20. From personal experiance I can tell you that Nissan definately used heavier gauge steel in the later 280's than in the 240's. However, it's clear there were changes every year (and multiple changes in '74) to the S30 unibody, and that's just the USDM versions. Bottom line: If you're doing some serious drag racing (sounds like you are) you need to be concerned about safety and rollover protection. Build the car to protect yourself first. That alone may be all you need to reinforce the body.
  21. That's in bad shape. I would cut it off just behind the core support and graft on a nose piece from a straight donor. That's what I did with mine (mine was not nearly as bad as that). It's not that hard. Carefull cutting and fitting and lots of measurements before you start welding. I did mine with a spot weld cutter, a cut-off wheel in my angle grinder, and a cheap mig.
  22. The more I read that the less I understand it. Not an insult, the problem might be with me. I have a GM T5 with a sbc bell sitting on my garage floor. It's a tilted f-body type. Can I help?
  23. That list is not complete (and I also think not entirely accurate), but the lowest R200 long nose open you will find is a 3.36. Not a common diff but they pop up once in a while. I just bought one here recently. Expect to pay 2-3 times the price of garden variety ratios like 3.54, 3.70, 3.90.
