  1. Thanks everyone for all your knowledge and thoughts on these 240z offset front bushings. If I dont use these what would be a good high performance alternative? " hmmmm. ...wishing I had the $1200 for the AZ z car adjustable arms...."
  2. I have the really cheap 'no name' aluminum v-belt pulleys sold at just about every major auto parts store. They work great! No problems at all even after running the same set on a few different engines over the years. Natural billet aluminum finish. As far as the peeling goes maybe the ones talked about in that article were chrome plated aluminum. A tiny piece of debris ran through the belt groove could easily nick the plating causing a pit. Corrosion from there between the copper strike and base aluminum part will typically start to lift and peel chrome plate. Or a very low quality die casting and or material is totally possible too. I know for a fact most of these pulleys sold are die casted them machined down and called 'billet'.

I decided to eliminate the spare all together and did this instead.

    280z conversion ?

Sounds like a good swap and interesting. I question the stock datsun transmission strength as well as fitment. How would you ever adapt that trans to the GM motor?? Has anyone here ever done that?? Maybe its easy..... I dont know. Also very much understand your strong desire to keep the stock shifter. Yes anything is possible.... I am willing to go out on a limb here.....That by the time you install the 4.3 engine the fragile custom datsun transmission and driveline angles will most likely change locations drastically. In short, changing the stock z shifter position you wanted to keep in place to begin with. Requiring a new transmission crossmember anyways, driveshaft length and rear end location adjustments/fabrication to once again get back to proper smooth driveline running angles. So if you are going to go through all of that why not install a GM manual trans. It would be much easier, WAY more dependable and cheaper $$$ in the long run. I have seen many converted Z's with these transmissions with amazing stock looking consoles and shifters. It's totally possible.
  5. Just wondering if anyone has use this type of 'offset' transverse link bushing. The parts are made by G Machine available though MSA. Aluminum and delrin contruction. Also they suggest installing a grease fitting in the pivot? I wonder about the function, life span and matinence of this particular design. Any previous users opinions of this part would be great. Or overall recommendations of other bushings that perform well too. Keep in mind this is a street car. My thought process here is that these bushings will allow some camber adjustment and also slightly lower my front suspension ride height. Here are some pictures. Thanks!
  6. Thanks Larry! Very detailed indeed. Looks like that will work out great! One quick question... After the removal when installing the new bushings, does the long end of the bushing face towards the rear of the car on both sides? I forgot to index mine when I removed the transverse links. Brian
  7. Have a question on 240z front suspension transverse link bushings. Wound anyone know of a good way to remove these bushings? The ones I have are 30 some years old and rusted in. Tried pressing them out but afriad of distorting the link itself. Any suggestions or tips from others who have done this already? Thanks. Brian
  8. Hey Demidion thanks for the insight on those MSA corner mirrors! I was thinking of trying those but not now. I have to find something to replace what I have too. If you find anything cool let me know.
  9. Man I think all those cars are cool!
  10. Hey I was hoping you all could help me out. Looking for a set rear view mirrors that work. See attached picture. The ones I have now are not so great and they shake and sag out of adjustment. I tried MSA's chrome bullet mirrors and was not impressed with quality or function. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks everyone! Hope the picture gets in this time. http://album.hybridz.org/data/500/10889Picture_029-med.jpg
  11. I have the MSA motorsports mounts. It allows and fits use of the hooker long tube Z headers. Engine sits about 3 inches from the heads the firewall. Removal of the stock hood latch braket is requred. MSA also sells a bracket kit to remount this latch. But with the stock hood I can run a 14 x 2 5/8 drop base standard K&N filter with no problems. About an inch plus clearance. If you dont want to cut a hole in your hood this set up works very well.
  12. Check out JET tools. Good high quality imported machines. They have just about everything under the sun at very reasonable prices. I own a 3/4 drill press and a bench top mill with over 10 years of reasonable use on them with never a problem so far.
  13. If you can find one coverted that is a savings I think. Of course there are always limitations... on how things were build it. Thats what I did and still had to go through the whole car except the motor and body paint. It was still a ton of work to make it a reality. But the story was there and that is worth something if you are starting new again. I have tremdous respect for those with the passion that start from scratch.
  14. Very interesting note Dan. So I did check with MSA today and their mounts look JUST like mine and they also sell the hooker long tube headers. The headers have a pivoting/rotating tube so the steering shaft will fit in between. Pretty cool set up. I wouldn't think you could confuse these mounts with any others as everything fits very close. From my observation less than an inch more forward or to the rear and the headers would not fit at all. Even tigher left to right. Distance from back of head to firewall measures..... 3 inches passenger side. 3.750 drivers side. (typical head offset for V8 engine) What do you think? Thanks for the help. I would post pics but I cant seem to ever get them right. Brian
  15. Thanks fl327. I must have the JTR.
  16. What is the difference between the Scarab and the JTR postion as far as the engine location is concerned? Would just like to know to find what setup my car is for future reference. My motor is set back far enough so where as the stock hood latch mount had to be removed and redesigned. Also the engine mounts dont look 'home made' but maybe something out of a kit system as the seem to work perfect with the hooker long tube headers. Thanks everyone. Brian
  17. Thanks davyZ I will try that though I am horrible at computers. Here we go!
  18. Hi everyone. Is there an easy way to find out if I have mechanical or hydrolic lifters in my 327 chevy without taking out pushrods etc? Any info on this would be great. Brian
