CHEEEEEEEEAP pyrometer... possibly.
Hugh replied to JMortensen's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I use an infrared temp gauge for tires. I also use it to track heat down my intercooling system, etc... -
How about building a bracket that attaches to the passenger side of the tranny tunnel and rises up from there? Then the computer/clock/etc.. could be mounted on that, hanging over the passenger's left leg or something.
-
Looks great! I think its just the angle of the photo, but it seems the gauges are wayyyy back there. I imagine if you're sitting in the driving position then it will look normal like stock... which is cool. You're very brave to have opened up new gauges like that...

The new ones are infinitely better than these old ones. I've used both, the old gave poor results... the new one gave consistently good results. Plus, the new one hooks up to your computer to read back datalogs of your runs.

Yep, the sampling rate of something like this will only be useful at part throttle steady rpm type conditions. It's not gonna operate like a real gauge that responds to minute changes in temp and climbs the dial really quickly with each gear. -
Should Tokico's put me this low?
Hugh replied to Zoldman's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I've got the same Tokico kit on my car (at least the rears right now) and it didn't drop it at all over the blown stock setup. My ride height in the rear actually raised up an inch probably. -
Heh heh... thats gotten the best of me before, too.

How about wiring a relay to the switched 12V that cuts off the ground to the headlight switch? (or all of the grounds into the switch) That way, you need to have ignition power applied for the relay to turn on, and therefore the lights will work. It's idiot proofed like a modern vehicle.

Please help with cheap suspension setup
Hugh replied to Hugh's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Wow. I just put the rear suspension from the Tokico kit in yesterday... its like night and day different. This thing rides so nicely now compared to the old blown out rear I removed. It's incredible. My left rear shock was completely blown. The right one was ok but slow on the rebound. I think this is where my rocking was coming from. It took me about 1.5 - 2 hours to do the rear, as this was my first time on Z car. I didn't realize it was so difficult until I got into it. I dropped the suspension and hung it out the wheel well, hooked up my hydraulic spring compressor and swapped it on the car. I loosened the brake lines from their brackets and disconnected the e-brake lines (although I think the e-brake isn't necessary) I also had to drop the half shafts to pull the coilover out at that angle. Overall, this job was a lot harder than expected... hence only the back being done in the 2 hours I had to do the job. But in the end, I think it would be easy if I had to do it again. I love the way this feels... it never bottoms out anymore. My old stuff would thump everytime I hit a bump. I think it was bottomed out and not doing anything on the left side. -
I think I would shudder if I saw the price tag on this work right now... I need a better job. Looks great, man. I'm jealous.

Sweet, looks like everything is compatible in that list. The rear 280z swaybar only has one listing... 20mm. I guess I will have to measure mine and be sure thats what it is. I may just order the complete 240z kit and get the 280z swaybar bushings seperate. I've already got the end link bushings... so I just need the D-rings. Corzette, hows that car running? You probably don't remember meeting me in Okinawa in 2003. I had the Silver 180sx with the big turbo under the hood. We spoke at the auto hobby shop and I told you that I was planning to get a 240z and put an SR20DET into it. Well..... I'm on my way now. (it's just taken a loooonnnnggg time)

I just got the Tokico springs/struts kit from Ebay for $505 +tax (freakin cali) They also sell them with the basic tokico struts for $350 or so.... this is EXTREMELY cheap. I didn't see if they sell them for the ZX's... but look on ebay and see what you can find. If you want to just replace struts, that would be fine, too... but the price will come close to $350, I bet... the same price to get the springs included.

Please help with cheap suspension setup

Fast shipping, indeed. I ordered Monday, he shipped Tuesday, and I received Wednesday. I can't complain about that. I took the stuff out to get a good look at it, and everything looks great. I'm excited! I just need to find some time to put these in this week... -
All those cars in the original link are Bosozoku cars, as someone mentioned above. Those guys are retards. In every way, they do stupid things. It's no suprise that they would make the most outlandishly ridiculous looking cars in the world. They also drive around and rev their throttle wah wah wah wha whahahwhwah wha wah wah wah It's mostly motorcycles, but the cars are like a side-following. I have zero respect for those guys, as most of anyone whose ever seen them would.

Please help with cheap suspension setup
Hugh replied to Hugh's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Well I don't have the time to make my own. Heh heh... barely have the time to install parts I'm not just yank the rear swaybar... but if I buy new ones, I will get both. I don't like driving RWD without a rear swaybar. The rear floats too much for my taste. Overall, thanks for the advice guys!! I'm ordering that Tokico 'kit' today. -
So what I gather is this: The area in blue is now closer to the area in red, and the two rollers don't align anymore? You grind out the red area to match the distance that it used to be from the blue? Then adjust the plate out further towards the door... I suppose?

Well its nice to see a first-hand happy customer. Thank you. Is it worth it to get the Illuminas over the cheaper set (he sells the cheaper ones for $350 on ebay) -

Sweet. Do you think I should replace the swaybars, or just do the bushings on them? It has a rear swaybar installed right now... (I guess someone added it years ago) but the bushings are completely shot. I'm just wondering if its worth it to replace the stock bars, really. Thanks for the word on sectioning (I said cutting, what a moron) I really won't ever lower my car that much, so I guess I don't need to worry about it. -

I was considering this deal on Ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7973596843&category=33590&sspagename=WDVW Do I need to cut them to fit those struts? -
I have a 73 240z. My entire suspension is shot. At a minimum, I need to replace the struts and springs. Now I've read a bunch of stuff about cutting the strut tubes and rewelding them, but still don't really get why this needs to be done... Basically I want a good street suspension for now. It needs to be lowered, sorta stiff, and done cheaply. I'd love to get some input from you guys on such a setup, and wether I need to do the cutting thing. If you can refer me to specific brands, that would be awesome. Eventually this setup will come out of the car, but for now... I need something to keep me from losing my mind driving this everyday. The suspension is so mushy right now its not even funny.
