  1. The S15's 480cc injectors should go a long way further than the S13/S14's 370cc. I've seen some pretty powerful S15's on pretty stock setups. 300hp is easily attainable with the stock turbo. Is there a reason why you're already planning to upgrade the turbo? (if you don't want a buttload of power)
  2. What are your plans with this setup? Do you plan to turbocharge the motor? If thats the case, then it should be pretty sweet when you get it running. In my experience, I don't like the feel of the auto tranny on the KA or SR. (drive several of each) But I like driving a stick.... so its a personal preference thing with me. What are you going to do for engine management? Wire in the stock harness/ecu, or go standalone? Biggest hurtles I saw with the swap was going from carbs to fuel injected, obviously the engine mounting, and the engine management/electrical wiring. I was lucky enough to be pulling my working Tec3 system from my previous chassis and hook it up in this chassis... solving one big problem quickly. Vildini fabricates nice quality mounts for the SR... don't know if anyone has fitted a KA with their setup yet... but thats a great option. The KA fits on the same mounting points as the SR in the S13/S14 chassis. They may sell you the mounts outright, I don't know. (you being in Alaska) The great thing about their mounting setup is the location of the motor. Mine sits back against the firewall, all of it behind the front axle. Vildini just completed my swap yesterday. They did all the dirty work for me.
  3. After swapping the SR20DET into my 240z with Tokico suspension all around, the nose raised up noticably. It is visibly higher, and you can feel it when you drive. I'm convinced a chunk of weight was shed from the front of my car. No science to back it up, but I know the car.
  4. I'm looking for a set of fiberglass headlight buckets for my 1973 240z. My friend accidentally backed into me last night, and punched both of the steel ones in. Everything else is ok for the most part, but I gotta replace these things. I plan to put all fiberglass and/or carbon fiber on the front of the car, so I don't want steel ones to replace them. Anyone know where to buy them for less than $165 per side? (MSA)
  5. Unless you're going to make a crapload of power, reasonably big main injectors will cover everything. Staged would be cool if you need 1000cc's or more per cylinder, but chances are you won't make that kind of power. (unless you're planning for 600+ or something) Running an AIC (like a Rebic for example) is an outdated tuning style. It works ok, but not so great. It's too touchy and volatile. I would keep it simple and get large main injectors.
  6. I have a Tec3 and love it. Tuning with a MAP sensor kicks the crap out of tuning a MAF any day. MAF's are nice for stock setups... but if you've got standalone capabilities, ditch that damn MAF and go for MAP simplicity. The D-Jetro PowerFC is MAP run. This costs a little more than a standard PowerFC, but is worth it. The AEM is worlds better than a PowerFC. The price is the problem, of course. Same goes for the Tec3, but it has full ignition for the price you pay. Real standalones like the Tec's or AEM have dozens of options the PowerFC doesn't. Most of which you're probably not gonna need... but if you get deep into it, its nice to have. Read up on the different computers on their respective website to see the options available. You may see some stuff you like that one has over the others. The TecII, as reccomended above by SR240Z, is still a great system and can be had used for pretty cheap these days. It's an 8x8 map instead of 16x16 like the Tec3, but many other features are the same. (such as Electromotive's outstanding ignition system) The Haltech's are another option. They can the stock cam angle sensor and ignitor/coil packs on the SR20DET. The Haltech E6X is great for the price (about same as a new PowerFC with commander) and the E11 is outstanding, but pricey. There's a lot of options out there. Putting a really good computer in there will make all the difference. Some things you can skimp on, this is one department I refuse to.
  7. What about using an output from a standalone to switch the VVL? Is it like on the S14 engine where you have a little electronic solenoid that can be switched on to adjust intake cam timing? It sure would be interesting to tune.
  8. I would strip all the stuff off the 'back' of the motor and use a standalone that reads timing from the crank. Swapping the ignition from distributor to coil packs with ignitor is not gonna be a simple task. It has been done in the past... but I'd rather drop the whole thing. Tec3, SDS, or something the like would be great in this case.
  9. Scott/Enthalpy is the one who tuned that Enjuku car. 400hp is no problem on a stock SR20DET. Tuning is the key. Tuning, tuning, tuning. If you don't tune it right, it will pop at 200hp.
  10. I wonder if that tranny would fit neatly into a 240z with an SR20DET. I'll probably be looking into that in the future, when I have the rear end that can handle the power the tranny can.
  11. In the 240sx KA/SR community, there have been a handful of SPEC clutches that have exploded under normal conditions. These guys were not putting down ridiculous power, and the things just gave up... clutch disc shoots through the bell housing, destroying everything in its path. I could understand if they were making 500hp and this happened, but 250hp? It's not an isolated incident, either. I wouldn't put a spec clutch in my car if they wanted to sponsor me.
  12. Wow! Rock and roll! Can't WAIT to see that on the strip.
  13. Sounds great, and looks like fun! Rock & Roll
  14. Its a New York Datsun. It's gonna have bad rust in all the usual spots. Most cars are loaded with rust from the snow/salt. (even less rusty cars) If its cheap, good stuff.
  15. Just park the Ferrari outside and leave the keys in it, I'll be by later. Nice pics, lovely cars.
  16. I get compliments all the time on my piece, and it has a big dent in the back by the muffler, as well as an entire Earl Scheib paintjob thats coming off I get the feeling that everyone owned a Z at some point in their lives. (judging by the comments I get)
  17. You mean this page: ?? There's videos of most of those cars in the video section. Just go click on video/drag racing and look for the HKS or Dry Hopp vids.
  18. Yep, I only took pictures of what looked interesting. There were like 10 times as many cars as what I took pics of... but a lot of boring stuff. Sorry if I missed something someone wanted to see! All the white Lamborghinis did look great together. Some were pearl, one was stark white. That color was sweet!! That silver Spyker is freaking beautiful. It was my favorite of the show. I guess its Dutch? Didn't know that before.
  19. That was what struck me about it. The Z shape grabbed my attention from across the room.
  20. You are probably referring to the new Camaro concept car:
  21. I don't see what being asian has to do with anything. My asian wife stays up til midnight or so. Yeah, seriously, what are you doing thats making so much noise? If you were grinding in there all day... I'd complain, too. There's limits to what you can do in a community like that. I use 99% hand tools in my garage to avoid pissing neighbors off. When I have to use a power tool that's noisy, I get everything ready to go and hit it hard and fast til its done. If it takes 5 minutes, ok... but I won't stop start, stop start all day long, because you know it will wear on people and next thing will be a complaint. My apartment complex as well as the condo complex I used to live in both have rules that say you are not allowed to work on your car at all. I know I am breaking rules when I do it, therefore I am very careful about it. Working with the garage door shut is tough. For 9 months out of the year here, there's no way I could stand the heat. For the other 3 months, I don't feel like working on it at all.
  22. LA Auto Show 2006, Jan 15th Los Angeles Convention Center Here's some highlights: Click For The Rest of the Pics (9 pages) I have all these pics in 7 megapixel untouched format. If you want a couple in Hi-res, let me know and I can email them to you.
  23. Tuning plays a bigger role in lag than you might think. I would try leaning it out from 3000-4000rpm, because its probably gone rich there since the intercooler install. Your intercooler will of course add some lag, but proper tuning can level it out a lot.
  24. Putting on a giant turbo to make only 350hp is not the way to go. It will be running under efficiency, and working the engine harder for no good reason. Response will be crappy, and there's no payoff in the high RPM when the big turbo will shine. (at high boost) It's best to match the turbo to the application. Don't think bigger is better. Think, what do I need to make X amount of power? A turbo running efficiently at 350hp is going to be much better overall than a huge turbo that wants to make 600hp only putting out 350hp.
  25. Dyno results have proven that open wastegates VS piped back into the exhaust can increase horsepower by 20-40whp on a turbo 4 cylinder!! Thats no joke! Ask yourself, "Self, would I like 20 or 30 more horsepower?" uhhh... yes! Oh, you guys are skeered of a little wastegate noise? Come on... everyone with an external wastegate should run it wide open. Let everyone know you have it when it opens!!! I ran an open wastegate for a couple of years, and I stopped using my horn. You want to see people get the heck out of your way? Hit them with that! I also got out of having to run countless fools who wanted to street race. (just by spooling the turbo and opening the wastegate for a moment to shrug them off) It's Dr. Jeckyl and Mr. Hyde. The Doctor is calm, cool, and collective. Mr Hyde, on the other hand, is wild and out of freaking control. I consider the open wastegate to be one of the best parts of a turbo car. I love it. Make mine LOUD please.
