  1. Why is the first guy with the fire extinguisher just standing around until the guy comes up in the golf cart before he even attempts to put out the fire? Then the second guy comes in and blasts the first guy with the fire extinguisher to where it looks like he can't see for awhile. Too funny! Got NOS? Another case of BABY BOTTLES GONE BAD! Don't be a wuss, build more motor.
  2. WOW.... That sucks. Glad you are alright! The energy stored in a flywheel is incredible. Angular acceleration is Velocity squared divided by radius and the kinetic energy is Mass x Velocity squared divided by two. At 7K rpm a 30 lb flywheel has a massive quantity of energy. I've heard of guys loosing feet or legs to this type of failure. This should be an example to the rest of the guys that this can and does periodically happen. I've got a SFI flexplate, but I don't have a tranny blanket. HMMMM......
  3. The diesel industry has been doing this type of calculation for years, except that they do torque instead of HP, which makes more sense to me since that is what moves the car.
  4. My folks went through that back in the 50's and 60's before they had the technology that they have now. Finally they went to an orphanage and adopted me and my sis. Sis first, me second. My dad passed away almost 3 years ago coming in June and I can tell you that there is/was no greater love than that of my folks. Thank god my mom is still with me. Unlike my sister I had been severely abused as a baby and didn't talk until I was 4, they got me at 18 months. I completed high school, BS and MS in engineering and I am a registered professional engineer. I hold a federal explosives license and am president of 3 small companies. Make no mistake about it, I have a natural son, and I couldn't love him more than my folks love/loved me! I have never ever wanted to disgrace my folks with the unwanted desire to find my "biological" parents. Parents are those who raise you not who make you and if you were in my shoes I'm sure you'd feel the same way I do. Having been in 8 foster homes in 18 months I was destined to be a product of my upbringing that had no chance of being a productive member of society. Trust in God, and ask the right prayer. I pray that he will send you the gift of life in the form of a child that you can call your own, however it shows up. Even your name is holy, you will be blessed. Best wishes David Dotson PS. Oh, my dad was from Greenwood AR, I have alot of kinfolk in AR,MO, KS.
  5. Did you sell it with a warranty? If not, then I'd tell him that he misunderstood you. You assured him that you would not take care of it. I can understand feeling bad cause something happened, but how is that your fault?
  6. Ahh, Grasshopper, you know not what you ask. The answer to your question is not as easy as it appears. I'm sure you could, I know I can't, unless it was a used engine/trans and my time wasn't included. Tools are a given although not given but acquired over the years, I use them for many other things. I've got about 12K invested so far with about 7.5K in the engine/trans, but who's counting?!! I let my women buy things they want, I buy things I want, somehow in the end I have more actual "things" like a house, cars, boats, z's, guns, guns, guns, furniture, heavy equipment, semi-trucks, tools, etc, they just have less money.
  7. I've ridden bikes, had a Suzuki GS750, KZ900Z1 back in '76, Yamaha YZ490, and a CR250R. Had alot of friends that didn't make it for some stupid reason. Did my fair share of being stupid, just didn't get caught by fate in my stupid moments. Bikes are great, they have their place, in an amongst cars is not one of them, you'll loose a confrontation with a vehicle everytime. Counting now, I've lost 9 friends to bike accidents, 5 were the fault of other drivers, 4 involved excessive speed. Of the 5 that were other drivers faults, all got basically run over from the side or behind by other vehicles. They just aren't as safe as a vehicle that has steel wrapped around you!
  8. I wouldn't try IMHO. There is enough negative crap in my life already to worry about that as well, kind of like the wife taking off with loads of cash, if it makes them happy, then let them have it, they'll have their day. If you think that courts will vindicate you, your wrong, if you win, you'll end up with a judgement that you then have to try to collect. Good luck, my guess is that this guy doesn't have anything worth getting even if you could get it. A writ of execution could be served, but the law doesn't like to do that anymore, causes too many confrontations. Invite him over to your house to look at a motor and have several buddies there, whip his *** but good and have your buddies swear that he started it, always works for me. Don't get me wrong, I'd kick some *** if I had to, but you'd better move on. Salvage what you can and build a 400sbc or derivative thereof. Life is too short to deal with morons, be positive and move positive and learn from the mistake you just made.
  9. Mike, just admit it.... You are an outlaw, you have a spirit that cannot be held back. Remember it's only illegal if you get caught and it's only legal at the track.
  10. My dream is to kill a bear that big and have it made into a rug, to see how many women I can fit on it at one time, preferrably without clothes. JK Really, I want to kill a mondo bear just like that one, been a dream of mine since I was in Wyo and had a grizzly stick his head in my tent at about 2 AM while I was elk hunting by Jackson. They have the foulest smelling breath you've ever had the opportunity to wiff.
  11. Well, now that I know she's yours, I'll send her home! LOL It hooks really well, just kind of squirts out there, drives real straight, shift 1-2 at 5000 and goes through the traps at 6500. Going to take it to the body shop and have the fenders cut and re-rolled so I can lower the rear of the car another 2 inches. Had a kill of a big block powered vega (Dave Campos) that ran 11.50 in time trials and a blown BBC powered 72 camaro (Scott Hogerheide) that runs 11.50's also. Got both on video, just can't get it on my computer at home to send anywhere. Both guys came over to see what in the hell was in that car. Bummer, just a little ol' 350. I sent santa a request for the 406, so we'll see what happens when I get the twin turbo motor going.
  12. Ok, ran yesterday, 11.36 @ 119. Density air was 8200 on a weather station, I know we have crappy air over here, best I've seen it on a weather station was 6200, actual elevation is 5300 ft. NHRA doesn't have a correction for density air that high. Best I can figure it'd be a 10.60 @127 or so. How do they come up with those corrections?
  13. Yup, need some droolin' pics and more details. Now if I can only figure out how to plant it to the pavement.
  14. I too have found that large port sbc heads don't necessarily kill midrange torque, but that depends on what you call midrange. I call midrange 2500 to 4K for street and 3500 to 5K for circle track or drag. The effects of cylinder heads on engines directly relates to bore and stroke and piston speed as well, which helps determines port air velocity which is why small heads can't fill large cylinder volumes whether they are created using larger bore or stroke or both and why cams are so important in making the combination work. So as it has been said the cylinder heads are to be thought of as a restriction but so are cams. Low lift long duration cams are better suited to heads that flow better at low valve lifts and heads that have larger flow at low lift tend to make more power at lower rpm's because the valves reach the low lift numbers twice, once on the way open and once on the way closed, where they reach peak lift only once. Grumpy is correct, valve timing is the only true variable once an engine is built, mostly due to cost of heads and the fact that cams are alot cheaper, however I have seen teams dyno with several different heads on the same short block to see which set made the most TQ and HP. DD programs can help you play with valve timing to give you an idea on how changes will effect TQ and HP and where. Selecting the most suitable heads and cam is the key to extracting the most out of your combo, but it doesn't end there, intake, carb, exhaust and ignition are all players and I'd rate tuning as number 2 on the all time list of how to make it work. Tuning can easily make 100HP+ difference especially in a forced induction engine. The point of all of this is to select the correct combination. Where most newcomers to hotrodding make errors is in choosing parts, as they are simply incompatible or not optimal in most cases, but tuning the combination for optimum results takes alot of time. How many have played with timing, changing headers/collector length, spark plug gap, ignition coils, jetting, tire pressure, gearing, converter stall, suspension changes to see what settings produced the optimum results? It doesn't take years to build one, but it takes years to know "how" to build one, and I'm not talking mechanical aspect here, and takes years to learn "how" to tune it correctly. That is why top tuners are sought after big time by the top teams. Interesting thread, opens up alot for discussion and sharing of knowledge.
  15. Yup, she's a kind hearted type you know, just not really a one guy kinda gal, which is like my ex.
  16. That's my girlfriend your making fun of.
  17. I've got a ladder bar setup and coil overs in mine. Has a diagonal bar for location. I'm going to go to a 4 link and tub it cause I can't get no satistraction, no, no, no..... So when I get done I may have a 9 inch rear that fits the z for sale, mmmmmm.
  18. Have ammo, lots of guns, will travel! I wonder what my .30-378 Wby mag would do to a house cat at any distance?
  19. Bubba is there cause he invited his neighbor over for a party. He told his neighbor that there was going to be "Eatin', fightin', and f__kin'." The neighbor said, doesn't sound too bad, who's all coming? Bubba said, "just you".
  20. The guy you want to talk to is Detlev Gottschalk in Detroit. If you want I can find his #. He makes dies for GM, Ford, Chrysler and a host of other specialty manufacturers. Truly world class german craftsman that used to make dies by hand for BMW.
  21. What does xb stand for? My mind is running rampant here! Do the DC sport exhausts make it faster than a regular xb or does a regular xb come with a straight pipe? Seriously, what does one of those things cost and why was there a limited number production? Does Jay leno have one? If Jay leno has one then I want one too. I think you shoud call MTV and ask them to pimp your ride, or better yet call Jesse James and have him lift it, make it 4wd, and put a blown AMC 401 in it.
  22. Well, it sounds like the tires are peeling off, I'd leave it at home it's definately not ready for a daily driver. You might try some better tires like some 32x14x15 slicks or something, sounds like those are el cheapos.

  24. I had family and friends that didn't come back, except in a box. Whether it was right or wrong doesn't matter. Take an oath to serve this country in the armed forces buddy and you'd better step up to the plate and go down swinging. I don't agree with alot of government policy, but I do vote, so I can bitch. Mikelly has it in the right context and well said. I miss my family members and my friends, something Hanoi Jane doesn't have, real friends that is. What kind of a friends do you all have? Mine will meet me on the street corner with arms, if asked, with no questions in thier minds, will yours? Datsunlover, your getting close to a real friend to your mechanic. Being right sometimes won't buy you a cup of coffee and some people who are right are in prison and some are dead. Got to know when to fold them for another day of play. In the end, when your days are almost done and you are on your deathbed, what will each of us have? You'll have your family and whatever "friends" come by to pay their respects before you leave this world. So, in the end it can all be summed up as "What you did with the "time" you had here"!! So, thanks for you alls time and words.
  25. So, are we supposed to forgive the witch? She's now making money off that stunt and she's a lying, worthless waste of skin and a disgrace to this nation and all that it stands for. I guess her dirty laundry is supposed to be the latest "shock" reading..... I say it's more lies, and more lies in an attempt to make money, she will stoop to new lows and knows no shame. You can be for this country or against it, but if your against it then you shouldn't have the privaledge of living here having all the good and none of the bad.
