  1. Werd Brotherman! LS1tech is the mother of all LS resources. P.S. There is a friend of mine just up the road that recently went 9.50's in an 88 RX-7, on a 155K mile junkyard 5.3! (turbo) Gotta love reliability!
  2. I don't even know what that means. You might be a little more clear if you want a good answer. Side note: Unless you plan on doing all the work yourself, I would say nix the rebuild plan. LS parts are still pretty expensive. You'd be better off just buying a $500 5.3 with low miles and skipping the whole rebuild headache. Just my $.02, but what do i know about LS engines?
  3. Glad I live in Kansas. No emissions for this guy to pass!
  4. Ok. If I do any cutting and welding to the manifolds they will be getting V-bands. I am done messing around with slip fit and tri-flange. Both are such headaches.
  5. I see. I might see if I can use stock manifolds (or truck manifolds) for the time being, as it will be NA for a while.
  6. Yep, there is no way they'll fit. Sell them to me for $100. Problem solved In all seriousness, make sure you're using the correct header. SIDE NOTE: for $500, don't you think they could use their high and mighty abilities of building headers to produce a long tube! JEEBUS, that kinda coin for shorty headers makes me scream
  7. Having a friend work for a dealership, I am going to steer FAR FAR away from an L33. Apparently they are the red headed step child of LS engines. He tells me in the last 2 years they've replaced 50+ with < 50K miles on em. Its strange. Generally the lobes wear off the cam, causing noise, leading to engine failure. OR, the last one he did, he replaced pistons in it and sent it down the road. Either way, IMO, they are not quite the engine the rest of the LS family is.
  8. Well problem solved. It sold before I got to it.
  9. I am looking for an oil pan, and I know the most common one to use in an S30 conversion is the F body pan. However, the CTS-V pan isn't much different dimensionally. I was just wondering what kind of clearance (k member and ground) those using the JTR swap kit have. Here is a quick link to the dimensions of the pans. http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/817787-lsx-oil-pans.html The quicker the reply, the better, as i located a STEAL. I might buy it just cause.
  10. What are you trying to say here? If you're asking if a 5.3 is a decent SBC, then the answer is YES. It is far superior to all gen 1 and 2 SBC's in every way. The only downside I can think of, is that the parts are still more expensive.
  11. It just depends on how deep YOUR rabbit hole goes. When I do the conversion, I plan on upgrading the brakes on all 4 corners, as well as a full set of Autometer gauges. I'm sure I'll have to do something with the rear as well, as I plan on letting it eat from about 6 grand (clutch dump). Also, I'm going with a T56, which is definitely more pricey than a lot of trannies. I have a spreadsheet I can post if anyone is interested, In the prices that I've found and the plans I have.
  12. Yep, another 4th gen crazy here. My stock 01 SS ROUTINELY got 27, with a best of 32 mpg. 6 speed, naturally.
  13. so what was your MPH? Times don't really mean chit if you don't have traction.
  14. No sense in fixing what isn't broke. Those water pumps are quite reliable. I've seen many with 150K + on the original. If it was cam specs that was a deciding factor for you, I have a 2002 LS1 cam that I'd almost give you. Big name used cams (vindicator, MSx) can be bought for only a couple benjamins, in good shape.
  15. I was able to pick up a pair of AFR 205's last summer for a steal. Less than half what they cost new . They were also milled to 62cc combustion chambers, so with my cam it gave me roughly an 11.4 compression ratio. Very safe if you run a thin head gasket, to get a nice tight quench. I went with the MLS Cometic .040's. Even as small as your cam is, you might run into PTV clearance issues. I'm only running a 228/230 .588/.592 on a 112, and I had to flycut my pistons on the intake side. Had I left them alone, I would have only had .010, instead of the recommended .100 . PM me if you need the place to buy a tool to do so. Also, it recommended to swap to LS7 lifters, new lifter cups, you may or may not need different pushrods, and you might as well put in ARP bolts (JIC you ever have to pull a head you won't have to buy new bolts) It was a nice bump in power. Definitely noticeable, even in my pig of an F-body.
  16. If you want a custom-built, beautiful radiator, PM either evilz, or onetuffz. They are both running a custom setup with F-body fans.
  17. www.ls1tech.com Read up my friend. IIRC, the iron blocks are ~80 lbs heavier than the aluminum. As for differences in power, there aren't really any. Cube for cube, mod for mod, generally speaking.
  18. From what I've seen, the most common areas are: frame rails, rocker panels, spare tire, fender wells, floor pans. Just tap on everything, bring a magnet if you think it has bondo in it. that's my .02
  19. Colt and Cable, Thanks for the prompt responses! This is good info, keep it coming! The crossmember is a JTR, So I should be able to re-use it, or fab it up a little ( I can be handy with a MIG)
  20. I currently have an old school SBC and th350 in my 280z. I am collecting parts to do an LS1-T56 swap, and I am curious as to what can be re-used. Thoughts: Driveshaft? (it's a long nose th-350, so it's the same length as a t56, but is the mount position of the SBC / LS1 the same??) - I had this built from an LS1-f-body shaft, so it's aluminum, and the slip joint is the same. 3150 U-joint mated to R200 flange Tranny Crossmember? Fuel tank? (stock 280 tank with external pump that will need upgraded) Just wondering if anyone has done this "swap" Thanks in advance!
  21. Is this what you're talking about? HOLY WOW, that is a deep 1st gear. 3.37 compared to the t-56's 2.66 !!! Talk about a tire cooker. http://www.ttcautomotive.com/english/products/t-45.asp How much does one of those bad boys run? Also, how hard are they to get a hold of? I'm stuck on putting a T-56 in my car, I'm just curious. Also, there's a full list of all the ratios offered in that tranny, on the link at the bottom.
  22. Since we're on the topic of exhaust, I LOVE it when cars do a true dual setup under the diff, ala Terminator Cobra style. SECKS
  23. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what was off in those pictures. I just realized your car is right hand drive! cool.
