  1. Take the 5lb gate. You can always turn the boost up when you're ready.
  2. I hope he gets that on the market soon. 10 years from now I sure as hell would rather be driving around using that than some ridiculously expensive and complex fuel cell car. The only thing I don't understand is why this guy is still emphasizing welding so heavily on his site. He has to know that the real money is in automotive applications.
  3. This one better have explosions and scantily clad chicks... and hobbits
  4. Keep the boost low until you can get a wideband and knock sensor on it and actually tune it to an extent. You might want to build one of TheHelix's homemade knock sensors. 8psi is working fine for me without it being tuned, but I'm also certain that I have more than enough fuel under all conditions.
  5. MIB, have you driven it like this in heavy rain yet? Seems to me that the entire engine bay would get drenched. (Yes I know, my 280 has hood louvers that let water in, but the one has pan under it to keep much from getting in and the other is positioned over an empty space.) The scoop looks all right though.
  6. Is that Frankie's car or yours? In either case, I like what's been done with the black down the middle of it.
  7. Mine was loose and it was due to the pivot rod in the tranny tunnel coming out of its place. I popped it back in and it works well enough now.
  8. I fly every morning when the weather is right. I'm an Aviation Systems major at the Ohio State University. The mighty C-152 that I took on a solo cross-country to WV...
  9. As long as you don't mind drilling and tapping (or welding) a return fitting into it, the stock pan works fine. I'm running it. Frankie will provide you with the necessary oil return fittings.
  10. I'm going to tell you right now that you won't want to stay with the original electronics. The car hauls balls at 8psi even now, but I'm getting terrible gas mileage and it could run smoother. I'm running an fmu to get extra fuel on boost, and I'm sure I'm getting plenty, but the fact of the matter is that without a better efi system you can't tune fuel and timing properly. I'm scrambling to build my megasquirt so I can get some gas mileage and get a lot more power for a given boost level. As far as reliability, though, I trust the n/a motor completely. I have to drive the car every day in city traffic here at school and it hasn't let me down at all so far. I don't see any reason you can't run a bolt-on setup into old age as long as you don't detonate on it. You gotta tell me about whichever one of his cars he ends up driving to your place. I've never seen any pics since Frank is somewhat computer illiterate outside of ebay. Also, i have a hunch that he's rocking a mullet. Let me know if I'm right on that one:mrgreen:.
  11. Haha that's Frankie that you bought that from. He's a good guy, and he got me started with my bolt-on setup. I bought a similar "kit" from him over a year ago and I'm glad I did. He promised me that my purchase came with free phone tech support and he wasn't kidding. He'll talk your ear off about any question you ask him. I've learned a bunch from that guy and we still talk a lot nowadays. I plan on visiting his shop sometime when I'm in NC. He said he'll even let me drive his 700+ hp Z racecar. Just keep in mind that he's been doing this for a long time and his advice on engine management is biased toward older, more primative methods. For instance he can't understand why I'm going with megasquirt. The only real issue I had with his items was an Xspower t3/t4 he sent me. He has nothing against that brand, unlike most people. The turbo had been dropped in the mail and was bent, so I sent it back to him and he sent me a lightly used Garrett t3/t4 for no extra cost. He's always willing to work out any problems that arise. I'm currently daily driving my Z at 8psi with the following parts from Frankie: -ZXT manifold which he installed an external gate onto -garrett t3/t4 -zxt downpipe -zxt j-pipe (I installed my own bov into this) -zxt afm housing which Frankie installed n/a electronics into It is entirely do-able to run a turbo on the n/a motor without zxt management, but you will need the larger afm housing and you will need to adjust the afm spring. I personally would be very cautious about running 13psi on the n/a motor without megasquirt or some other aftermarket efi. People have a misconception that the n/a motor can't handle any boost. The fact of the matter is that it works fine as a boosted motor, but will not handle detonation like the zxt motor.
  12. Use the k.i.s.s. method... keep it simple, stupid:wink:. I'm just messing with you Phil, but I think you'd find that it would be a lot of custom work for the results you'd get.
  13. I don't really have any money but I can't pass up that cool of a shirt. Paypal sent.
  14. Electric is all well and good, but it's so much weight and upkeep. If the link I posted in my thread is legit, I'd make my Z a guinea pig for that system in a heartbeat.
  15. Like I said... make sure that the oil isn't overfilled and if it isn't, then the only other thing that I personally know of would be bad bearings. Wait around for some other members to weigh in before you go replacing them, though.
  16. Megasquirt controlling EDIS will be much more flexible even than that, as I understand it. With the obvious exception of when I don't have the laptop with me.
  17. I hate to even ask this, but you greased it of course, right?
  18. Take the exhuast piping off of the downpipe and just watch for oil dripping from it. I'd bet that your bearings are bad and are allowing oil to go past into the exhaust, but Prox's crankcase scenario would be something to check first. Just take the hoses off of the crankcase vents and run it a while. If it's still smoking steadily after it's been warmed up for several minutes, then you probably have a bearing issue on your hands. PS. An overly high oil level in the oil pan could also back up the oil return from the turbo, resulting in the same symptoms.
  19. I wish I had. I did complain to the boss and he never made me weld again. Anyways, I'll be sure to make a thread if i get something worked out with the rearview camera mount.
  20. Ha. I'll take your word on it. I can only weld MIG and SMA, and not that well. I get the fumes thing though. Worked at a school bus factory and the boss made me weld on galvanized all day with no ventilation. Went home and was shaking uncontrollably all night and real weak. Where's OHSHA when you need em?
  21. I'm thinking it's steel but I'm not 100%. A side mirror mount would be cool too, but I liked the view you had.
