Powdercoated wheels cost?
tfreer85 replied to tfreer85's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Don't know if sandblasting is required these wheels are still in the box. While having an oven to do it would be nice, i don't have the space nor time to do so right now. Would rather have the professional job. Thanks for the input guys. Tyson -
Powdercoated wheels cost?
tfreer85 replied to tfreer85's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Hmm well it was a newer shop, I'll ask some others. See what they say as well, but 40 would be really nice!! Tyson -
Okay, I'm looking to get my Centerline Wheels powdercoated Satin black to match my fender mirrors. I was quoted 100 dollars per wheel, is this a good price? Is it reasonable or should i try and bargain? Also what should I look for in the shop or in the showcase products? Never had any powdercoating experience, any help is great. Thanks, Tyson

http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=84860 ^^^^ Good starting point for making good horsepower out of an L28. Also, you need to define what extent of HP you are looking to get? 250, 300, +400 RWHP etc. What are you using your car for, daily driver, street thumper, drag race, auto-X, etc. What is your budget, do you want to learn how to do it yourself or pay out to have someone do it for you? Average guy mods for an L28 can be intake, exhaust, electric fan, electric water pump, etc. pretty simple mods can add a few extra HP and be fun for you to do. I'm not badgering you or trying to patronize you, but these are important questions to help you out and for us to be able to help you out. I'm not expecting you to be a super-mechanic I don't think one exists, we have guys who can build a suspension beyond believe but not know a whole ton about engines.

PICTURES are going to help a ton in that decision. There are alternatives to sandblasting, but if its structural FIX IT and be safe with peace of mind. You could have anywhere from surface rust to having panels missing. Which is it? If you can post up some pictures it'll help out, there was a decent rule of thumb "for whatever amount of rust (X) is showing on the surface double (2*X) it for what is underneath..." Tyson

Okay, you're gonna get hammered real bad on this. Why because its BEYOND evident that you haven't spent the time to do some searching. http://forums.hybridz.org/search.php Spend several hours SEARCHING, it'll answer all your questions and more. Don't expect to get spoonfed around here and don't expect people to spend time answering your questions when you haven't spent your time to look first. Best of luck searching!! recomendations on cam and where to get headwork - sac area ca?3.1
tfreer85 replied to 24ounce's topic in Nissan L6 Forum
http://www.rebelloracing.com/ Good reputation only an hour away. Or Member Braap on the board does some GORGEOUS work as well, he's in Oregon somewhere. Cam wise do a search for NA cams and you'll find a LOT of threads discussing your application EXACTLY. Also, what is your compression on your block, type of block, type of head, realistic HP goals? These all play into the type of cam you're choosing. As for pricing, varies on the amount of work needed to the head, amount of work done to the head, and your performance goals to get from the head. Best of Luck, Tyson -
Thanks a lot guys for all the great responses. The idea of a boring A to B car, won't work for me, nothing agaisnt them but not where I am in life right now. I'm also already very knee deep in a 240Z LS1/T56 swap, but when thats done I'll want the DD to become the next extensive project. This is a really tough decision for me, I've loved modified Porsches for a long time, they look great, then seem to have a GREAT reputation for being fun cars to drive, but as Yasin and others have pointed out the Z32 is newer with newer technology. While the Z32 doesn't quite have the same classic or look or awe inspiring look it can and does look pretty clean. As pointed out the Z32 is easily upgradable with minor bolt-ons etc. but more of a pain to do so. Is the comfort and newer technology worth the future headache of wrenching? Do I make a sacrifice on creature comforts and get a Classic with easier wrench-ability? If i buy the Z32 I'd have 2.5k in possible upgrades, if I buy the porsche I'd have to wait a while do do anything. Ai, the Z32 definitely seems like it could be a safer, more reliable daily driver through all weather conditions, and as others stated a little more forgiving. Going to have to double check with insurance see which one cost me less and have that be the deciding factor since both get the same MPG, and both are very tempting cars. Thanks again, Tyson

The 1980's model only has the 3.0 according to what I've read. Tyson

How do you mean "work a little"? Yeah, I have a ton of links on swapping motors into Porsche's, but I want it to be reliable enough and fun enough now to last me until my LS1 240z is done. Still trying to find good 911 porsche forum. Tyson

Sometimes its fun watching people bs then back pedal when you call them on it. Or claim to be knowledgeable in what they don't know.

Umm wow!! You just sold me on trying to get an 911 over the Z32. Good gravy that thing was sexy and f*ing fast. Tyson -
I think the 300zx would be faster out of the box, but I don't really need it to be really fast right now. My z will fill that void, I guess I've got to cruise over to some porsche forums and see what they say about maintenance costs, etc. Tyson

Well I found a pretty cool website and have been reading on it for a day or two. I have a couple of good/better ideas. http://www.entrepreneur.com/ Also on Taxing you Ebay income: http://www.smallbusinessbrief.com/articles/taxes/002816.html Thanks for all the help, Tyson

So, I've been looking for a reliable daily driver, something better than 16mpg, COMPACT (I drive a crew cab truck any car is comact...), and stick shift. Ideally I want the car to be a nice semi-sporty cruiser until my Z is done, then be able to take down the Daily Driver for a rebuild/modification. I've narrowed my choices down to a 1991 Nissan 300zx Twin Turbo and a 1980 Porsche 911 SC. Pro's Nissan: Newer Cheaper Upkeep Large source of parts Con's Nissan: Can be very ricey Extremely cramped engine bay Pro's Porsche: Its a Porsche 911 Model TONS of options Dreamt of a Widebody conversion for a while Con's Porsche: Older Higher $$ Upkeep Expensive parts The 300zx is 7.5k (120k MI) and the 911 is 10k (90k Mi), insurance is going to run me around the same for both. I'd like it to be able to go to the track AS IS now and have fun, but mostly be a fun daily driver. Opinions on which you'd rather have or choose and/or why? Thanks to Mikelly's thread on 911's, I hadn't looked at 80's Porsches cost in a long time...

Thats, what I'm assuming as well. I guess I need to research on how to do that legitimately and then go at it. Lunar, I like the idea of powdercoating, it'll keep me involved in cars and has the ability to expand. It also seems like it wouldn't take up a huge amout of room (in a garage, shop, etc) and somewhat portable. Mike, I guess i would fall under the profit venture, which is fine I'm WANTING this to show up as income. I'll have to talk my CPA and see how I can go about doing this legally. Thanks a lot guys for all the ideas, no for a whole lot of sleepless nights scheming on it. Tyson

A lot of good ideas, my question about the Ebay setups is can you claim this as income? Essentially what my main goal right now is house ownership, current pay only affords 100% Financed for 225k, that doesn't buy didly worth owning in my area. The ebay sounds great, but if it falls under a similar circumstance to my overtime, it doesn't do me much good outside of having more play money and not much towards a taxable, claimable, income to afford more house. I'm definitely scheming with the Ebay stuff and what can be sold on there, so if I can make a claim for it as a secondary income I'm gun-ho for it.

Haha, no drug dealing maybe i need to add LEGAL ideas I don't have the tools, outside of the basics, facilities wouldn't be that hard to get, however it would be hard to be dependent mechanic or reliable time wise. I'd prefer something internet/email based so I can do some work at my current job in between calls. Thanks guys for the ideas so far, Tyson

Gives new meaning to "fat man on a little bike"

That seems way overbuilt for 325rwhp. However an LS1 swap won't be much cheaper, depending on year LSx/T56 setups can go for around 6k sometimes less depeding on condition etc. Then you have all sorts of other small parts that add up quickly if you can't do the work yourself, motor mounts, transmission, exhaust, headers, wiring, driveshaft, ecu tuning. If you want it to revv high well the you're talking a lot of enging work as well, crankshaft, rods, pistons, cams, rockers, heads or headwork, intake, all sorts of small things that aren't cheap to do on an LSx either. I don't know exact weights but since you said you wanted to do road course I would ASSume that the LS1 might add more weight to the front of the car. It seems like a fair amount of work for 325rwhp when you can do other things for less to make it better on a road course. So imo stick with the VQ do the best you can to make it lighter and make the 350z handle better. Tyson

Okay I like my current job and all its perks of being a gov't employee. However, my salary maxes out around 33k not including overtime. We can work anywhere from 12-88hrs of overtime a 2 week pay period. This is nice and makes a nice paycheck, but it can't be accounted for or relied upon for anytype of bills or loan. A normal work week consists of basically 3-1/2 12hr days of work, so there can be a lot of down/off time. This is where I need your guys' help, I'm looking for something low stress that will bring in a steady flow of extra money. I figure if it can bring +10k a year or have the potential to make more if I have more time to devote to it. Here are a couple of ideas I've thought of so far: Business Card/Logo/Letterhead/Web Design Computer Builder Real Estate Design Some sort of mail order company (don't know what type) Custom Home stereo/theater setup and installation Any ideas are welcome, however I can't really work for another company like a resturaunt becuase my schedule can be very crazy at times. Thanks a lot for any help, Tyson

I don't know exacts but IIRC the CA18DET can handle around 350-400 whp without major modifications. Its supposed to be a pretty strong motor, as to how much it can put out stock or what its stock limitations are, idk. Its basically cheaper to build an SR for the same HP or for more HP to make up the 30lbs weight difference. If you're serious about getting good HP, I'd change out the ECU and get a good tune before I'd try to find the limits of injectors and the turbo. Best of luck in your searching, Tyson
