Any updates? I love this goon!

So, it has been on my mind now for the last year or so that it is getting near the time for me to decide on where to live and buy a house. My gf is open to the idea of moving out of the tri-state area (NYC). We both work as engineers, so employment can be an issue depending on where we look for work. I am much more flexible as I have been working for a utility company since I have left college (5 yrs) and she works as a chemical engineer. So what is the problem with the area I live in? Taxes and cost of living! I understand the idea of living in this area you receive a larger salary and have “everything†available to you but I am starting to believe it just isn’t worth it. Nice areas to live in and a school system worth sending your kid to, property taxes are in the $10k-$14k range. God help you if you need to cross any of our bridges to get to and from work, add at least $10 to your daily commute – gas is understood to be $. Am I complaining? Not really. Just the quality of life is becoming more of an important factor rather than the amount of money I make and then to give it away just to live in the area, lol. I am sure we both are looking for a nice decent house with land for a garage big enough to hold the toys. Yes, the gf likes bikes and in the near future will have an s30 also! Doesn’t she sound perfect? Lol. But honestly after a few years of fun we would like to be in an area that has a good school system. It amazes me sometime looking at random places how much more “house†people get for their money. You can blame HGTV also….sometimes I hate watching those shows! So now we are throwing the idea out there of getting feedback from others who live as far down as Nc, MAYBE Ga and see why they enjoy the places they live and would they recommend the area for a younger couple. My selfish requirement is I have to be within a few hours’ drive of a track or two. Property size we know will vary depending on where we are looking but taxes and school system takes priority over that. The Va, Md area seems to be the first choice just because it isn’t too far from our families but further down isn’t out of the question. So let me know what you guys have to say…..in the meantime we will continue to look around in our area. This is really a decision to be made probably 1-2 years out but why not plan now?

Mike I had the black centers and had the wheels refinished this summer. I had them clear the wheels so they can stand up to track day abuse!

Nothing really besides intake and redid the fuel rails, no more dead ended system at the rails. Long tube headers, cam and head next Spring.

Hey that is something for me to keep in mind for the next few part cars. We can all start taking pictures of the structure of the s30 chassis. I was surprised to see rust in the inner fender box on the last 73 car we cut up. There is cancer forming everywhere on our cars. Plus while cutting up the car, you get a good sense of where the strengths and weaknesses are.

JHM, I had my setup two years ago pretty close to what you have. I found out during a DE event that the intake would suck up water if it was raining out hard enough or if there were pretty big puddles of water on the track. I will be working on a cold air intake plus blocking off the front of the car off to stop air getting under the hood.

I agree there are weaker points but if you are building from scratch why not do the rockers. Everyone has seen plenty of Z cars driving with no floors but ever without rockers? Joe and myself, cut a parts car up and when you slice through the rocker, the car starts the fold. The doors can't be opened and if you get it open that door can't be closed back. The rockers should be tied into the, frame rails and rear strut towers. From my own knowledge and I could be wrong but after all those points are tied together, a main hoop should tie the strut towers to one another and then into the roof (meaning the "rally" mounting points) that are by the quarter window. I didn't do all of that on my car, so I am waiting to see the paint crack by the pillars

Savage is right. EVERY car I have looked at with drilled rotors have stress cracks on them. Some with less than 2-3 track days. I have them and will have to touch base with Savage on the rotors he went with....but I have about 14 track events on them and they were cut down twice. I think I got my money out of them. I am running a more aggresive pad so the life of the rotors are expected to be some what short. I would love to find nice aggresive pads that don't DUST the wheels to hell!

Car started up a few backs back and we will be working on a new cold are intake. So pics and video coming soon. Should be on the road next weekend......been almost a year off thte road

My family is stuck in Jamaica due to flights being cancelled for Sunday. Today I will spend the day making sure everything at their house is tied down and nothing flys away. Me, I will be at work all weekend 16 hour shifts trying to keep the lights on! Good luck everyone! Flooding is expected for our area and it has been raining for the past two days. If this storm hits the way we are predicting - lots of people will be without lights.

Sounds like you need to get your hands on some lasers to see where the diff and tail end of the tranny are pointing in relationship to one another. From there we can see where the tranny needs to be adjusted too and/or the entire engine/trans combo from the slider mount on the pasn side of the lsx conversion bracket.

Timing is working out well, I just got my car turned over yesterday

Correct, well finally got the car back to Joes garage. Got the tank in and fuel lines done first night. I got tired of working on the car in 90+ weather so why not back to Joes garage where there is AC and beer Going to finish up everything in the engine bay over the weekend and attempt to run copper lines to the heater core, I guess third time around will be the charm for me to have heat!
