  1. If your going to build one, and money is not an issue, the VG30DE(TT) engine is superior to the L28E(T). The VG has a stronger bottom end and better flowing heads. But its going to be a more expensive and a more complex conversion then building the L28. If your set on single turboing the VG then look into getting the exhaust manifolds, intake manifold, and turbo piping from a VG30DET engine. The VG30DET is the only factory single turbo version as the VG30DE(TT) engines here in the US were setup for a twin-turbo configuration. The VG30DET was only sold in Japan/Australia and maybe a few other countries but never in the US.
  2. If you already have the L28 it would probably be cheaper and definitely easier to turbo the L28 if your only looking for 300-400HP.
  3. Are you for sure going to be turboing it? If so check out www.twinturbo.net they are the VG30DE(TT) gurus...
  4. The VG30DE(TT) is a different engine then the VG30E(T). The DE is significantly bigger(DOHC, two turbos, etc.).
  5. Is the T5 your using similar to the T5 used in the 84-86 Z31 turbos?
  6. LoL i think hes talking about the Bonneville salt flats... Also what are the main reasons you went with the Z32s 5 speed over the 350Zs 6 speed? Gearing?
  7. Sounds like its coming along! I vote Black .
  8. Nice #s . Any plans to squeeze more power out of her???
  9. Hmmm interesting... Any pics/info on your Bonneville Z32?
  10. ITBs on a VG30...very cool! How does that sound? What kind of power gains are expected on a SOHC VG30 with ITBs? Is this a one off or are their kits for this?
  11. You can swap the turbo components to the non-turbo blocks just fine....9:1 compression isnt high.
  12. NAs are rated at 9:1 compression. Turbo engine are rated at 7.8:1 or 8.3:1 compression depending on year. All of them are acceptable for boost, many people turbo the factory NA long blocks with great success. 9:1 compression isnt considered high anymore as long as you have a good tune...
  13. Sounds like its in the heads to me...i'd just throw on a used set they can be had for very little and are generally fine. Smoke could just be oil or something burning off the block...
  14. 450-500WHP? It would really depend on the amount of boost and the tune..
  15. Very nice...any pics of the car it will be going into?
  16. I'm surprised no ones gotten one into an S30....is the VK56 really that much bigger then the VH45?
  17. Congrats on the engine...hope it fits! I'm suprised how small that transmission looks though....looks noticeably smaller then the factory Nissan tranny...
  18. Thats still a terrible deal. You can buy a fairly nice TT Z for that. A used VG30DETT long block shouldnt run you more then $1500 in good condition.
  19. I'm not sure if they make one either simply because if you price everything individually it will probably end up costing you the same as a used VG30DETT long block...
  20. Yes...you'll probably lose 20-30% engine power going from 10.5:1 to 8.5:1 compression. Also there is no difference between the JDM and USDM engines so you'd be better off just getting an engine here from the US. If you can't afford to do the turbo swap just save up until you can do it all at once...you're wasting your time and money buying a TT block without the turbos/intercoolers etc. and trying to run that until you can tear it all down again and finally boost it. Why don't you just pull your engine, replace the pistons with TT pistons and add the turbo manifolds, turbos, injectors, intercoolers, piping, ecu etc. Probably be the cheapest most efficient route.
  21. Yes you can lower the compression without changing the pistons. The You'd be better off just putting the factory turbo pistons in your car though. Your dads mustang also didnt run 10.5:1 compression...
  22. Negative on the skyline tails.
  23. Numbers are a little low...you should be able to pick up a fair bit more power from a better tune.
  24. Interesting....how about the USDM vs JDM VH45s??
