  1. Whats wrong with using the factory VG30 engine? A turbocharged VG30E(T) would be the simplest and easiest way to what ever your power goals may be. If you are dead set on swapping the engine look into either a VQ35DE or VH45DE, both have been swapped in and they are relatively simple and affordable swaps compared to others out there.
  2. At this point in time, LT1/LSx swaps are nothing special anymore. A VH45 is a much cooler swap and is capable of making decent power as well...
  3. Looks great Mark! Saw your car at the Z show in San Antonio last year, looked great then and looks even better now!
  4. So is it a VG33 or VG30? Pretty sweet...front mount turbos seem to be becoming more and more popular with VGs...
  5. Pretty bold and inaccurate statement there, and you've been here a while figured you would know better . 350WHP is pretty EASY in a VG30, thats just injectors, turbo and a tune away. In fact with just injectors, small T3/T4 turbo, and a tune (plus basic supporting bolt ons) my brother made 364WHP and 480WTQ(FlawleZ on the forums). Thats with over 200,000 miles on his long block, stock heads, cams, bottom end etc. The car would of made over 400WHP with the same setup if the turbo wasnt out of its efficiency range. His new setup is still on the same old short block but now a bigger 62mm billet turbo, custom turbo manifolds, ported intake manifold and cams, looking to make well over 500WHP on the factory block. Problem is most people cheap out on a proper turbo on the SOHC VGs and they stick with disastrous tuning options like romulator, Nistune FTW. Also the NISMO heads are next to impossible to find as it appears only a handful were ever made. You're better off just porting the heads and getting a nice set of cams and a proper turbo, that will offset any intake flow issues for 99% of peoples goals.
  6. Cheapest source ive found for a VR38DETT, currently starting at $7975 for the full engine: http://r35tt.com/
  7. There are three different transmissions the Z31 could come with. All the non-turbo Zs came with the trans very similar to the KA24DE, the turbo models came with two different transmissions depending on the year.
  8. Whats needed to get the VG30DE oil pump on the VG33E? How much better does it flow?
  9. Could be the mass airflow meter(MAF).
  10. There is no VQ38, the GT-R uses the VR38DETT, a completely different block then the VQ35/VQ37.
  11. Their making an adapter for the VR38 intake manifold to fit the VQ35HR?
  12. The VG30ET and VG30DETT while both 3.0L V6s build power differently in stock form. The VG30ET tends to be less efficient in the upper RPMs causing its torque to peak sooner, this makes it seem like it builds torque easier but in reality it just dosnt carry the torque as high in the RPMs as the VG30DETT. With upgraded heads/cams the VG30ET will have a powerband more similar to the DETT with torque peaking higher in the RPM range. Both engines are good for making power and have similar limits.
  13. Go OBD1, I don't believe there are any tuning options for the OBDII VH45s, I know Nistune will work on OBD1 VH45s.
  14. From what i've gathered it seems 1990-1995 are the optimum years. Like BRAAP said the 96 did lose VVT and although it isnt a big difference, most people still perfer the earlier years. To narrow it down further I think the 1990-1991s are the ones most people go for, I believe it has something to do with a better flowing intake manifold. As far as rebuilding one, i'd do a compression test first, if compression is still within spec then just change the gaskets/fluids/hoses and leave the bottom end/heads alone. No reason to put money into something if it dosnt need it. Any VH45DE donor will be fine though, make sure you get Nistune to go along with it .
  15. Why both transmission adapters? The RS5R30A/FS5R30A and FS6R31A are all good transmissions, each have their strengths.
  16. These two engines are not the same platform. Aside from sharing a similar size, displacement, and number of cylinders, these two engines are actually quite different. Both have a rather small aftermarket but if you are resourceful you should be able to find what you need for either engine. I would assume its still cheaper to obtain a VH45DE given its age. There have been adapter plates made to allow the VH to bolt to the Z32 5 speed transmission(RS5R30A), though the factory automatic(RE4R03A) is fairly strong. I don't know of any manual transmission options for the VK. Many people also perfer the VH if your goals are big power(500++HP) as its generally regarded that the VH is a stronger engine and holds up better to boosted applications. I am not sure if the motor mounts are located the same but I would imagine they would be similar as both of these engines powered different models of the Infiniti Q45 sedan...
  17. Try a new MAF. Also I HIGHLY recommend getting Nistune to tune the ECU correctly...a JWT ECU is a cookie cutter tune and likely isnt going to work to well with your setup. Also timing could be wack.
  18. Not true. The VG30DE is a very reliable engine, though it is a little heavy for what it is. I do agree with this...VGs don't make a lot of power NA...but they love boost.
  19. I believe all Nissan Titan VK56s are flex fuel capable.
  20. This section continues to mostly have threads regarding Nissan V8 swaps and considering this forum is Nissan based it only makes since to me that we now start a Nissan V8 section. Especially with the increasing popularity of Nissans V8s... At the very least start a pole and see what the community thinks...
  21. At least as far as the 350Z VQ35s are concerned people generally refer to them as the following US model years: 03-04: 287HP VQ35DE 05-06: 300HP VQ35DE (Rev-Up engines) 07-08: 306HP VQ35HR (HR engines)
  22. If it works on the Maxima with a VG30E then you should be able to get it to work on the Z31 as well I would think. But I think you would be much better off with Nistune: http://nistune.com/ http://www.z31performance.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=968
