  1. Any of the degreaser style cleaners will leave a film. You need to go over it again with a regular floor cleaner (Mop 'n Glow) that adds a shine.
  2. My head hurts and my calculator is smoking...
  3. From the May Mark Ortiz chassis newsletter:
  4. Then this ain't the place for you. Try Twitter.
  5. On diffs or transmissions ALWAYS remove the fill plug before the drain plug. And ALWAYS put anti-seize on the thread when reinstalling the plugs.
  6. I did some restoration work on "Sweet 16" and both engines were connected via gears and chains from a heavy duty forklift. Similar to the cam/crank gear and chain setup on the fron of the SBC.
  7. Take the intake manifold off the head, take the head off the block. Do it right.
  8. The toe was set incorrectly and the steering wheel needs to be recentered.
  9. Looks fine to me although a picture of the top and the underside of the insulator would help. You don't need to trim the insulator.
  10. Lost another $10... Glad its not Showcars.
  11. The torque arm has a big drawback (same as the NASCAR truck arm) - braking. Its easy to get the rear axle hopping under braking. The way to reduce this is to lower the mounting points where the two lower arms meet the axle and make the lower arms as long as possible. Multi-links don't have the braking issue but you have to get the angles very right or you'll have other problems (bind, weird roll centers). Multi-links also limit your exhaust options to dumps in front of the rear axle. For either rear live axle design the main issue will be room for arms of the correct length and room above the rear axle center to the floor pan above.
  12. I've seam welded three 240Zs on a rotisserie without any problems. The car must be completely stripped (no driveline, no suspension, no interior) and keep the doors closed.
  13. Here's an explanation of why Justin was asked to move his five vendor threads off of HybridZ and onto his own sales platform and why we banned him today. The Admin staff of HybridZ has to manage the site for all the membership. When we start receiving e-mails and PMs with complaints about a specific member we discuss the complaints in our private Admin forums and work towards a solution that benefits the site and the membership. Traditionally we do not get involved in specific member-to-member sales transactions because the time and effort required to get some kind of resolution is of little benefit to the site and the membership at large. In Justin's case we started receiving PMs from members in late February regarding non-delivery of product and items purchased from the Classifieds. The volume of these PMs was such (four private sale transactions and five group buy threads) that we felt we needed to get involved to keep a growing number of our members from losing significant amounts of money (as we all can see it grew into thousands of dollars). Based on past practice, the HybridZ Admin staff would have banned Justin, deleted all his threads, and let the members work out repayment themselves. The "shoot first and ask questions later" method. In Justin's case we felt that the issues had grown too large for us to ignore. Various Admins started getting involved in the vendor and classified transactions to apply pressure to Justin (and in some cases the other party) to resolve the disputes. This took a couple months and once we felt we had accomplished as much as we could with the issues that were brought to our attention we decided to give Justin notice that he has to move his business off of HybridZ onto his own web site. We felt 30 days was sufficient for him to contact all his customers and let them know what was going on with the sales. On May 4th, 2009 we posted the notice in all Justin's Vendor threads which was about a week after we notified Justin privately. Today those threads are removed and Justin is no longer a member here. He has his own forum at: http://zforceproductions.com for those that want to continue to do business with him. We have banned him from HybridZ directly as a result of the volume of complaints from his private classified sales and indirectly from his conduct as a vendor here. We have heard about all the issues he's had in his personal life and we hope he gets through all of that, but our concern is for the membership here as a whole. HydridZ is administered by a bunch of volunteers who do this when we have time between family, day jobs, etc. Some have accused us during this time of being corrupt, vindictive, elitist, a "good 'ol boy" network, and a few other things. We're none of that but we can't change anyone's mind who feels that we are "The Man" and are crushing one of their good friends while he's down. These people need to remember that HybridZ is an Internet message board, nothing more. We hope Justin succeeds in his business efforts and provides the Z community with another resource. Right now, actions speak louder then words and if he delivers on his promises and then wants back on HybridZ, he can contact us.
  14. They are available, just bought a new one today. Think industrial diesel supply, not Nissan dealership.
  15. For diff gears and LSDs you can also use industrial gear oil that meets AGMA 5EP, ISO 220, and USS 224 standards. You can get a full synthetic 5EP gear oil that has a viscosity index of 94 which is what I've been running in the R200 on my 350Z with a OS Giken LSD. Its about 1/2 the cost of Redline 75/90 and meets a higher industrial performance standard. For the transmission I run Redline MT90.
  16. Just to add to the Datsun Curmudgeon updates... Monty Holt is going in for yet another knee surgery (the 7th) but is still going strong and selling parts at http://www.bits-pieces.com/. Ed Johnson is still the cranky Z race mechanic working with a few of the vintage racing locals here in Southern California and helping Floyd Link from time to time. Floyd Link is still working on engines a bit, mostly his son Steve's 240Z and 510. I heard Bill Savage is still making crazy race things at SPD down in Vista. His shop has been reported clean and empty so he's looking for another customer with a hare brained idea. http://www.spdproducts.com/
  17. Well... now the answer is maybe. You might be able to use the halfshafts out of a 240Z if your ZX is an automatic with an R180 diff.
  18. No and stop double posting.
  19. To determine where the horsepower came from we would need the motor insanity calculation sheet.
  20. Probably just another guy trying to get stimulus money.
  21. If you're looking for an example to follow, then you need to search and find some of the members that are running BBs in their 240Zs. If you want to understand what the logic is behind the selection of spring rates, which would help you make your own decision, then keep reading in the Suspension topic.
  22. I know he had been sick for a while. Sorry to hear of his passing.
  23. I can do that! (except for the moving at 100 mph part, the not falling down part, the not having to change my shorts after part...)
  24. Yes. No. Never, ever bridge a gap greater then the filler wire. You can also stretch the metal in the inner fender with a hammer and a dolly.
  25. I tried using a DeWalt miter saw to cut aluminum and steel with an abrasive wheel. It worked for a while but I smoked the motor after a few months. If you're going to use it with a toothed blade make sure you compare the saw's motor speed and the blade's designed max speed.
