Hi now John from jci told me that his kit had been used in rhd cars in Uk im sure ive seen a link to a uk site with pics but cant find it does anyone know of some one who has done Rhd ls1 Finally got my motor in last night but have major problem with exhaust the jtr headers have the steering coloum running straight through the middle of where they dump out on drivers side there really isnt much space between steering shaft and starter motor even the other side looks like it will need modification to fit The std holden extractors wont fit either really dont want to go back to std cast manifolds though im told they flow ok At this moment im considering modifying jtr headers or make my own for drivers side to either two into one and run closer to block or two into one and create a hole for steering shaft to run through be good if i could see how someone else has solved this have built extractors before so it dosent daunt me any ideas appreciated will add to pics soon to show how tight it all is thanks Mick

local guy here ran a turbo 2 litre datsun 1600 (510 to us people) with sneeky nos system at drags here was very quick car both drags and circuit used to win the 6 cyl class easily at the drags his trick was in the bumpstops he had taller ones for the drags so the car went solid in the rear much quicker the thing really launched

ho careful about the wank factor i reckon my bug catcher looks pretty good out of the bonnet the real suck in will be when i finish the ls1 and put the std bonnet back on all the local will get a real shock though im gonna miss the bug catcher might still hard mount it to the bonnet and leave it there at least now the engine will match the look and its great for cooling lets the hot air out if you dont want too much hp (230 hp) i still got the nissan v8 sitting in the shed with 5 speed and everything to fit into 240z though mate is measuring it up for his datsun 1200 coupe or 2400 sedan Mick

buy the jtr book if your going with a v8 conversion covers everything electrical mounts most anything u need to know you can order it direct from there site posted will have it inside a week ost likey I cant see why the 308 wont fit but im sure with the info in the book the chev would be easier There was one in street machine early 80s with 253 or 308 in it guy was well known car builder in sydney did a chev into volvo years later chris hillman i think from memory pretty sure youd find a chev to build cheap than a 308 and theres way more parts about and you only have to engineer it once if you go chev first off Just got to work out how to make my ls1 look like the nissan v8 my cars registered with and i wont need engineer not to worry engineering down here in tassie ant that hard Got a mate in wa who fitted a 327 from monaro into his 260z years ago not sure how he mounted that up was before we both found the jtr book and he long sold his car id really consider the chev before u commit to the 308 Mick

So you want to swap a ROTARY into your Z! (how-to)
zed240au replied to auxilary's topic in Other Engines
the main advantage of the synthetic 2 stroke oil is that it does not go off once mixed with fuel like mineral 2 stroke oil does so if u dont use all the fuel the day u mix its still ok back when i was motor cross racing we used to mix 2 stroke fuel on the day u wanted to use it since it goes off -

zed240au replied to auxilary's topic in Other Engines
aux looks great well done there a great motor im actually running synthic 2 stroke at 100 to 1 in the fuel thats what my engine builder recomend mines a 13b jport in my rx4 rally car builder said for every day use non stress ful driving you could run higher ratio but 100 to 1 is easy to do just 10 ml for every 10 litres fuel got a chainsaw bottle with measurer in the corner of the bottle just tip it in when i refuel be running the rx4 again in a rally in november my ls1 zed is not quiete finnished just have to piss some more people off being beaten by a rotary luv to see your car running mick -
ok thanks guys have managed to find camaro one in land of oz so will keep moving ahead just hole plug comes out of block ok mick
-
yeah photo would be great have done searches for pic but can find one anywhere on net looking harder i think theres a blank in the block on the what youd call passenger side think theres an allen key in the hole will try tomorrow was thrown when dip stick didnt go into the oil pan like the gto
-
hi well put my camaro oil pan on my locally sourced GTO ls1 engine but now have a problem dip stick in the GTO slips into a hole in the oil pan but there doesent seem to be one in the camaro sump can any one tell me where the dipstick fits in the camaro ls1 also the camaro oil pan has a 20 mm hole in side does this do anything or should i just plug it any help appreaciated thanks Mick

ok i luv the nissan 6 motors but why would u put one in a rx7 i mean its heavier than the rotary costs more to get good hp from i got my rx4 with 13b j port weber 300 hp at flywheel and i luv it for a race car and it piss's so many people off there ant much better than a rotary a 9000 rpm now if u put a v8 in or a late rb 6 i could understand Mick

PICS: Custom rollcage fabrication/install
zed240au replied to mull's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
with the roll cage in my rx4 the guy building it made it abot 3" shorter than needed welded it all up then made up metal boxes to fit under the legs and lift it up to the roof really simple way to do plus gave bigger area welded to car to support roll cage Cage was tested out when second navigator ended for ended 2nd rx4 6 times cage measured perfect no distortion at all mick -
After installing my nissan v8 some 16 years ago I decided to do the ls1 conversion now at first i was like most people i thought that sounds a lot money for the Jci kit but soon as i started thinking it through i decided it was cheap i mean the engineering is all done u know its gonna fit first time no measureing making it trying it then cursing it changing it like so many things i did with the nissan v8 My time to me now is way to restricted to muck around trying it mutiple times to make it fit I hate to think how many hours i spent making my extractors for the nissan So to me the JCI kit ant cheap but think how many hours you loose trying to do it your self Mick

R-200 or R-180, Whitch one is for me?
zed240au replied to Nealio240z's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
id just change the ratio in your r200 would think they be easier to get than the 3.336 ratio r180 any way But that said ive been running a r180 lsd behind my v8 for 10 or more years with know worries running 3.55 ratio the 3.36 are like rocking horse poo here in australia Yet a mate broke 3 r180 diffs in his warm 6 cylinder 240z but he was and idiot i mean i sold him my old vh commdore with strong diff in it lasted 220,000 km and he broke 4 diffs in that was only a warm 253 so i say the r180 will last if treat well but r200 would be a better bet -
im not saying someone hasnt put a rotary in a commdore but im sure it wasnt factory built like the hq rotary mick
-
Dont know about the commodore with rotary think that ones a not true do know holden built hq with rotary which some where exported to japan as part of trial Read article once about a 20b running n/a they reckoned it sounded like a formula one engine so sweet While i luv my rx4 and the fact i can beat porsches and gt falcons as well as the odd 300zx turbo The rotary really is the best fun so many people hate them the sound they make and they get so pissed when u beat them v8 with it But its a bit like putting a 4cyl in a zed engine bay just wouldnt look right but each to there own after having my v8 in the zed i luv cruising and having power to stomp when u need it and the v8 noise is not so repetivie as the rotary or as sweet as a nice 6cy then again my 13b j port is running 113 db at idle and jerks like a pig between 2500 and 3500 revs if your trying to cruise on speed limit but suppose thats some of its charecter but mane it goes when u stomp it Was told when i did my apprenticship nearly every car maker where looking at the rotary till the big fuel scare in mid 70s that killed them just think where they be today with decent research dollars spent on them there just so easy to work on so simple

hi there after 16 years good service and very little work somewhere in the area of 20000 km ive decided to pension off my current engine so i thought id let it be known its avliable if any other zed owners are interested engine is nissan y44 v8 nissan president alloy heads 4 barrell manifold piranha igition hand built extractors 600 double pumper holley polished valve covers full twin 2" stainless steel exhaust single rear muffler Gearbox is celica 5 speed steel case box mated to nissan v8 auto bell housing heavy duty cermic clutch on datsun 6 cyl flywheel tail shaft to suit and possibly radiator i have a full gasket kit to suit engine will bolt straight into a 240z no modifications need to engine bay or engine tunnel mounts bolt straight on to crossmember and gearbox mounts on researching engine i belive it delivers around 220 hp as is only time on 1/4 mile drag strip with 3.9 open diff delivered 14.9 quarter reasonable fuel econmy pretty much same as std 260 motor i ran before check out my photo gallery for pics of motor always gets attention at any shows real talking point pvt me if anyone wants a different motor for a very reasonable price Mick

there should be an end cap one of mine came with the cap not fitting properly when i got a new metal strap that holds the rubber boot on i asked the cv guy about a new cap and he said not to worry as it mate's up to the flange on stub axle so its not that big issue better with but wont hurt if you dont have have the cap just keeps grease in Let me know if you find where to buy one id rather put one in but once its bolted up i wont be pulling it out just to fit the cap mick

Adjustable coilover parts in Australia ?
zed240au replied to nicedat's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I checked out local prices but ended up going with kit from arizona z car daves a good bloke to deal with and you know you getting a kit designed and ready to fit a zed On the strut side i already had Bilsteins right round so when i did the strut sectioning i bought new Bilstein Vw rabbit struts for the front from USA as well struts arrived in 4 days Half the local cost quoted by Aussie bilstein dealers Mick -
ls1 is the best choice i believe and leave the wing on just luv them Cut my first Wing down cause i thought it looked to big with no rear bumper but just found another old stock one the other week so im painting it and putting it on Have fun

arizona camber plate install
zed240au replied to zed240au's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
thanks clifton already sorted the strut sleeve was a bit disappointed when arizona didnt send sleeve or any suggestion that you needed one guy i know has a lathe so after 2 or 3 versions we have a sleeve that will work i am using bilstein vw rabbit struts which made it a challenge as the thread is 2mm smaller than the mono ball hole and not a real long thread area too so it limited the size of the spacer and still be able to get a nut on the bilstein rears where much easier plenty thread and shaft was right size thanks guys mick -
hi wondering whos fitted arizona camber plate's like all there products great product no instructions my first idea to install was to cut out existing 3 bolt mount leaving 5 mm lip then slip new plate up from underneath and weld from above just wondering how any one else has done it any pictures would be great help thanks mick

did the guy tell u what model maxmia the calipers are off so u can get pads for them been trying to locate 240sx calipers to go mm motorsport way but cant seem to find any over here maybe the maxmia are an option as nissan sold maxmias in australia mick -
my experience with welding body panels was to soak rags in water and place them around area your welding keep the smallest possible area affected by the weld to reduce warpage As for sitching the chasis for strength well i was young and stupid so i soild welded every seam in my zed been told ill never repair it should i have a accident but guess it should never flex either mick
