  1. Rick's option is the only one that I know of that will work w/o hurting the vinyl. The other option is to cover the area up with SEM Landau black interior fabric and vinyl spray dye/paint. It looks 'stock' and is consistent in it's gloss, but be forewarned: your job is only as good as the prep work. Davy
  2. Supras are pig heavy cars, although I'm sure they can be made to handle well (seesm like even old muscle cars have handling kits now-a-days). Sorry I cannot answer about the brake package, but they do have antilock features and should do well with sticky tires. It is repeated stopping that really challenges any braking system. If a car can do it time and time again without fading, then it has an advantage....of course, you make the rules Davy
  3. Guys (tall ones anyway), keep in mind that this apparently LOWERS the seat below the Datsun seat height, which means more headroom for those of us that are of the tall sort. Aux, er...Jumbo actually, nice work on the brackets!! They look pretty well thought out and make the seats fit just so Aux, bring the car by on Saturday so I can try them out Davy
  4. It really does not look 'clumsy' when you see it in person. Also, if the bracket is pained body color, the whole shebang just dissappears. Hood pins solve the issue and are a whole lot less work IMO. Davy
  5. Owen, it was actually scca (Mike Gibson) that posted the fact he had used them before. As for part numbers, maybe someone can clue us in. I heard that the ones from Ford trucks (1970's/1980's?) were the ones to use. I suspect that the junkyard may be a good place to go and compare...then make a quality decision. The other cool thing would be to get barrel locks and go that route. I would want legitimate ones, not ricer stuff from APC et al. Davy
  6. Mike, this should be the case next year unless the smog Nazi's get their way--but it looks as if they are losing, thank the Lord. That car will be great to convert in any event, especially if it is good condition. Davy
  7. Man, how could I have missed this thread?!? Fantastic work!!!! Like Terry just said, "a great solution to an old problem." concerning the drip rails. I like what you did because there was no welding required in the process. I didn't know what you did until I read your explaination of it all. Nice work, sheesh! Davy
  8. lol I know what you mean---that's why I'm always buying used stuff on cash only basis!!! Thanks for the reply Davy
  9. Don, thanks for posting that link---that is exactly what I was thinking about last night. Those deperados are the opnes that have gone the farthest with adapting complete Vette suspension, etc to the Z that I know of. Good pictures too. I wonder where they are now???? Davy
  10. SSS510 mated one to the L6 for his 510. If you read enough posts, you'll find his info. Very fast 510 BTW. It can be done. Davy
  11. Glad I downloaded that! Thanks for posting it!! Davy

    Mirrors

Another idea is to buy some M3 style mirrors from the ricer magazines and make them fit too. Also, RX7 GTU mirrors and turbo mirrors look like they would fit there too. I have seen Celica mirrors...but they look a bit out of place on the car without having the 'right' shape, but hey, they work. Pete's idea of the Tercel mirrors is a good one, plus it is documented Davy
  13. Ross Corrigan is a much better person to deal with IMO then MSA or VB--he will answer technical questions and give feedback too; customer service with knowledge is always appreciated Davy
  14. Mike W (zfan), If plan on dumping those Edelbrock heads, please email me!! I tried emailing you, but I'm not sure if it is working... Davy
  15. Well, it's a good thing you have a thick skin---I apologize for jumping to conclusions too early, but I have seen young blood enthusiasm get no where without a good plan and MONEY. I do hope you succeed and build something that suits you. Anyhow, the tube frame can be set up anyway you choose, so you are NOT stuck with the Z car suspension. You have have your cake and eat it too, and use just about anything you want that will fit within the body panels. A solid axle would be ultimately better for drag racing and an independent rear for road racing. You could also do something like a Vette rear end like Scottie, although I do not know just how much torque they can handle. Use the search function and keep reading old posts--there are all kinds of examples of trick fabrication, but you have to find them. Davy
  16. No no no. The ZX is completely different then the Z. The JTR book is good for outlining what steps you take in doing a swap, but the cars are different, as are the conversion pieces. Hopefully Greimann will chime in to thoroughly answer your questions The 5 speed you have will most likely NOT work (very easily anyway) with the V8. You need a World Class T5 from a late 1980's to early 1990's Camaro. A 153 tooth flywheel is necessary. The general rule of thumb is too keep as much of the driveline as possible from the donor car, so mating strange pieces together won't be necessary, otherwise you'll end up spending large $$$$. Davy
  17. http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=19186 Please read the fourth post in this URL. The "sticky" threads at the top of the forums are there for good reasons Make sure you read EVERY post in this forum and use the search function. Then, after all is read, please feel free to post at large Welcome to HybridZ Davy
  18. Assuming you have the money to actually do this--and it will take bundles, no matter what anyone else says--why do this on a Z? There are better platforms or more expensive high horsepower cars to do this with. What about using a kitcar body on a tube frame? Too many questions IMO. Your aspirations are huge, but you don't seem to have specific knowledge (even general knowledge) to pull this off judging by your posts. Have you done reading in these areas of chassis setup, engine building, and fabrication? Are you an expert driver that can handle this kind of horsepower without harming yourself or others? Pardon me if I seem skeptical, but you need to have a specific plan when talking BIG hp numbers like you are, otherwise you kill yourself and ruin a car or never get started and end up with a pile of parts. Davy
  19. Welcome to the forum! That particular swap is doable, but few have gone there--look for some posts in this forum or use the search function to come up with the info Davy
  20. I simply love microfiber cloths. I use them for final rubdown or "dusting" after a final coat of wax is taken off. I have only three of them, although I would love to be able to buy good qualilty ones in bulk, so I never have a shortage. Apparently there are differences in quality, etc. Some things to look for. Davy
  21. Heh heh, good one Scottie Davy
  22. One of the best tools I have purchased is a rotary polisher/buffer. And yes, my garage looks like that too, but worse I love clay bars to get out the fallout from the paint, poshing compounds, wax etc. All good stuff. I finally bought some Mother's Billet Polish for the CCW's I bought from Auxilary. Davy
