  1. A company called Failure Analysis is an often used third party that does investigating on why things happened the way they did (plane crashes, building collapse, etc). I don't remember hearing about them back in the 1980's when the Audi/US fiasco was in full play, but I can assure you that if they were around and could have been utilized, they would have come back with a simple statement: Driver error. Pete, if that lady was lying to herself all these years, I would almost put money on it that she is in a mental hospital, is on some kind of mental medication, is full of ulcers, or finally committed suicide. It would be interesting to do an investigation on her especially, to find out how she is 'coping' now. I'm sure a person can't live with themselves in a lie as big as that without it affecting them in some adverse manner. Pity. Davy
  2. A similar situation would happen to my 240 Volvo and it would drive me nuts, I finally replaced the in-tank fuel priming pump and the "sock" filter that attaches to it. Also, I replaced the fuel filters (Volvo has two). Just a thought. How are your fuel injectors, clean? Just thining.... Davy
  3. Both of these I find to be unusual. Although I have heard of mustache bars actually breaking, they are so very strong that they usually break only under extreme conditions (read: drag racing) and only usually when some other part has already failed as well. The clock? Well, if it works sell it on ebay and start the reserve at over $100 Very unusual to have a working clock IMO. Not even the clock in my Q45 works supremely well. Ah Nissan... Davy
  4. Are you sure that it is the only one to fit? I bet the other ones will fit, but you may have to do a tiny bit of modification either to the spoiler or to the flares. Personally, I would buy a fiberglass spoiler that I think would look good on the car, AND THEN trim the spoiler to match (or enlarge it) the flares. That is the best and cheapest way to do it. Never touch the body when you can first modify a spoiler first. Just my opinion. Davy
  5. Welcome! Yes, the 280ZX can be modified for the V8 swap. Our resident V8ZX experts that come to mind are David Greimann and Ross Corrigan--both guys were mentioned (with story no less!) in the current issue of Sport Z magazine (Greimann for his car and Ross for his wheel adapters). Motorsport Auto does sell a kit for the ZX, although the guys here may tell you not to bother with it. Still, make good use of the search function on the forum to dig up information you need---this topic has been discussed in detail before and there is tasty info for the taking. The JTR kit does not apply in the ZX, although the manual is helpful for any conversion IMO. I'm sure some ZX guys will pipe in here and give some more info. Davy
  6. That is some great fabrication!! I love seeing work like that, but I would love it even more if I can learn how to do that myself on my own car!! Ah, patience grasshopper... Thanks for the link, Pete Ditto on the intercoolers--they look a tad small for this application, but what do I know Davy
  7. Acutally, if they are chromed well, just polish them with Simicrome (sp?) or Mother's Billet polish once in a while. I'm not sure how wax holds up on very hot exhausts, but it works well for chome bumpers, keeping them free from rust spots (here in Cali anyway). Davy

    Shifter

No no, that's not what I'm getting at--if he's doing a Scarab mounted TH350, his install will look only vaguely like Don's. He may wonder "how in the heck he could mount it in the stock location?" if they have different kits---that's all I was getting at really. Davy

    Shifter

Don, won't it make a difference how he has his transmission mounted?? (JTR vs Scarab) You have a JTR mounted engine & tranny, right? Just a thought. Davy
  10. Although I have not run the headers yet on the V8, I absolutely love the Cermakrome powdercoating on the headers. It is not dull, but shines like polished alloy unlike ANY silver spray paint I have used. I wanted longevity out of the headers even though they are relatively cheap, but I don't mind good looks either Davy
  11. Nope, it when you do NOT use any exhaust manifolds that you can burn a valve. You should be fine with the headers and collectors. Somebody correct me if I am wrong (not much sleep last night ) but that's the way I understand it. It will be just a wee bit loud though Davy
  12. I was in the car business for about 6 years (sales in Volvo, VW, Subaru, etc) and then I finally got out. I am a happy man to be back in banking (appraisal department) again. The car business is sssssllllloooooowwww right now and the poor sales guys are just about dying in this part of the state anyway. No income = no eat Again, I am HAPPY and THANKFUL to be in a good job right now... BTW, Dave Greimann, Metalcrafters is the BOMB when it comes to putting together machinery like that! Very very trick Davy
  13. MIke, have you priced out how much $$$ it takes to have two manifolds Extrudehoned? By the time you pay for the cast iron manifolds, have them hogged out via Extrude, angle mill them, and then have them powdercoated, you could probably have custom headers made for the car--ouch, Baby!! Reason why I piped in here: I originally bought the cast iron manifolds for my engine, but I found cracks in one side AFTER I bought them used so a return was not an option. I finally broke down (figuratively but almost literally) and bought the Summit block higgers which I have now powdercoated like Dan Juday's. They are lighter, tighter, and look like a fighter As far as noise is concerned, I think the mufflers are a better place to concentrate to quiet the car. If Sandersons or some other high quality brand are made available USED to someone in this situation, I would certainly recommend they buy those for the better quality and sealing. Davy
  14. Very cool car!!! Davy
  15. Ah, but that is personal preference young grasshopper. Jamie, I know that your opinion is coming from a guy with one of the best looking Z cars on the road, but still, there is nothing inherently wrong with a cowl induction hood, etc--I think they look sexy Davy
  16. Inside joke actually. It looks just like Len168's old car, FL327 (Fairlady 327), except the description is slightly different. If it was FL327, I would not buy it lol Davy
  17. Denny, that has been a desire of many guys on this forum. Check out Owen's site since he did such a conversion. I think he also gives part #s too. Davy
  18. Ditto to what Pete just said. BTW, that car has been auctioned before--probably ran into a dead beat bidder. The car is most likely not FL327 since the description does not match FL327. Davy
  19. SAC, The guys are not trying to blast you, but are just telling it like it is. Avoid multiple posts since they are looked at as spam by the Administrators and Moderators. The advice given by Dan to "bump" your topic in the appropriate forum is a good one and I highly recommend it since it seems to work well. Thanks for your help! Davy (HybridZ moderator)
  20. Yep, you guys just keep plugging away. Nice amount of progress you are making so far. I like the idea of the pirated suspension from the Vette--the width should make for a simply awesome handling car. Just keep up the good work and the updates!!! BTW, the website is making good progress as well! Davy
  21. What a find! That is what dreams are made of: cheap, rust free 240Z cars!!! Davy
  22. True, but I think we know what they meant, no? Davy
  23. Probably minimal since adding a V8 or turbo motor makes it a rocket anyway. 280Zone: thanks--I had forgotten that trick! The interior looks like you could mop up a capuccino spill in short order I have thought about doing something similar to my interior. Davy
