  1. If you are going to be just using the motor and not the fuel injection stuff from the 280Z, it should be a bolt in. If you swapping in the fuel injection as well, then get EVERYTHING from the 280Z donor car. My advice is to buy a Haynes manual and go from there. Also, a factory service manual helps too. David
  2. Holy....WOW That is one big sucker. Almost as big as that one I have in my garage!!!! lol Hey, maybe that guy will by the Schwitzer 4LE I have?? Cool pics, thanks! 1st time I saw 2 blow off valves in tandem. Same for the intercooler on the passenger seat; very pleasant. Davy

    Sanderson CC2's

David, if Trick Flow heads sucked, then Grumpy would not be using them now would he? There were some TF problems with earlier castings, but that's long gone from what I hear. They are a bargain and offer great potential, so what is not to like? Also, Edelbrock would not have the name they do with a POS carb IMO. It works and is as close to a bolt-on-and-forget-it carb you'll ever buy. The only reason I went Holley (used of coarse) was that it presented itself at the right time, that's it. Just my $.02. I'm sure your engine will be fine. One question on the cam botton: they usually have a slight dome shape to minimize friction if they come in contact with the cover, so did you grind it flat or leave a little dome? If flat, the oil should keep enough lubrication on there, at least for a while, so you should not have to worry about it anytime soon. It would be good to ask Grump for the final word though. Good luck. Davy

    VR6

A VR6 does not really offer much in the way of a performance upgrade if you have done a very simple ZXT motor swap; and that is practically a bolt-in. I'm not knocking the VR6's; they are very nice motors, but I think there are much better, easier alternatives for a Z car, like V8's and turbo motors, which will always be faster anyway. You are thinking creatively, which is good, but it should always make good sense in terms of benefit gained from the time & money spent in the swap. Most swaps are geared toward a goal of performance increases--would the VR6 swap have a significant effect on performance over another alternative? That is the question to answer. Davy
  5. The engine needs to be the SAME year of the car or NEWER with ALL of the smog equipment installed. 260Z's, 280Z's, and all later models require this. However, if the car is a 240Z a smog check is no longer required, but keep in mind they don't expect the car to have a V8 either. If you can afford it, put a stock V8 in a 240Z, legally register the car with the smog legal motor, and then after getting the door jam plate from the State, take all the smog stuff off and modify the poop out of the motor. Since you have a 280Z already, work with that instead---the upside is that they have 'frame rails' extending to the back of the car and feel more refined on the highway. A smog legal swap can be done rather easily, but again, make sure that the motor you are installing is the same year as the car or newer then the car. JTR also makes a TBI/TPI swap manual. Buy the JTR manual: JTR Hope this helps. If the 'search' function on the forum is working, spend weeks reading all the posts. I'm sure that 90% of what you ask is already hashed out 10 fold. Good luck, Davy
  6. I have been thinking about using them too---especially since painting them body color is something I want to do anyway. Thanks BLKMGK! Davy Wow look, I'm a HybridZ "Know-it-all" just like you; no longer an "Overlord."
  7. I am amazed at you guys that are able to fab a big V8 small car...oh wait, I'm doing the same..never mind. Seriously, that Spitfire sounds cool. The Nissan rear end parts will be stronger then the Triumph parts, and much cheaper too. The R200 will work fine and put up with most of the punishment you can give it. I think you will be pleased Look for R200's in almost any 280Z with 5 speed. Pay close attention to the pictures and you won't go wrong at the wrecking yard. Davy
  8. Looks good and the price is right. I have been thinking about LED lights, but for now the stock ones will have to do. Davy
  9. Methinks BLKMGK has them on his car, but I am not sure. At least two members have them here. Anybody? Davy
  10. Mike, the pictures in my head of this garage are great! When you finish, get some pics for us to see--sounds like a fantastic structure from your descriptions, and most of us can only wish of having so big a garage with our puny 6000 sq ft lots. Arg. Davy
  11. ROTFL!! Are you going to use the Vette's wheels or go for some lowered Honda kit's wheels? I had over 30 models in boxes, built, etc when I was a kid. I ALWAYS made hybrids, period. My favorite was a Dodge Ramcharger 4x4 that had a blown 426 Hemi under the hood--big hole for the blower and scoop to fit thru. Davy
  12. I met Ross Corrigan in San Francisco almost 2 years ago. He happened to be in the area because of a seminar his wife was attending in The City. When I met him, I was impressed with the amount of knowledge he has and the fact that he was a very down to earth kind of guy. Ross is definitely an engineer and he has the technical expertise that can only help his business and his customers. I have already done some business with him, and I hope to do much more! I can't wait to purchase his new Xtreme line of BIG BRAKES!! Yeah Baby! Congrats, Ross, and may your business expand to new and uncharted horizons!!! I have yet to receive my Sport Z magazine, so I have to take everyone else's word for it!!! Davy
  13. Lay off the coffee, jeeeze... Anyway, let me know when you get a settlement. I'd love to know your plans for that car. Davy
  14. Len, if the cross-dresser is a tall Asian guy with full makeup....that was the same bastard who followed me into the bathroom of a big Nissan parts warehouse in SSF no lie. Needless to say he didn't get what he wanted... The story is laughable and I'll tell you about it sometime when you're in The City. If that is the same guy, you had better NOT bend over in front of him... Now, just to calm everyone's nerves, I am making no judgements---this stuff actually happened. Davy

Yep, I drove by that place the other day by accident...even noticed that Brizio's hot rods is on the corner too. Ah, I love neighborhoods like that... Davy
  16. Hey, that 'kit' looks pretty good, and everything is already there. I can see the value of wiring a car all by yourself, BUT I also see the value in having a ton of the work done in a harness such as this one too! If it actually costs $40 or less (in parts & materials) as was stated earlier, to wire your own, then tthat is the thing to do. However, if it gets close to $100, then this may be a better option. Just my $.02. Davy
  17. You can look here for some good information on Jeromio's LS1 swap: LS1 site Welcome to the board---do a lot of reading before you start cutting. The JTR manual should be the very first thing you buy!! Davy
  18. As I stated in my email, I have to agree with Jeromio about getting a custom shop to 'massage' the fender metal outward---I almost think this would be your best bet since it won't kill the lines of the car, and still give you at leat one extra inch of genuine clearance. Combine that with a few of the other tricks mentioned and I think you'll be in business. Must suck having 500 hp on tap...I can only imagine Davy
  19. 9 seconds is true.....in the 1/8 mile! I could not open the link, but Mad Max had a cool one on his car---pure Hollywood I'm sure. Davy

    Sanderson CC2's

David, I bought some of these from zfan (Mike W) from Texas. They are very high quality and look like they'll fit fine (he was running them, so I'm sure they fit). I want to turn them upside down and run 90 degree bends going to the front of the block for the turbo. Even tho I have not run them, I like them! Davy
  21. The 940Z was even better looking IMO. I really liked the boxed flares on that one...only there were very limited pictures of that kit (1). Davy
  22. No way! Really? Super tip--thanks, Bud I'm happy. Davy
  23. Another place you can go is Hoover Chan's web page. I'm not sure if he has Honda 'kit' stuff, but he has every size and type you need. I have seen his hoses personally and they are HIGH quality. Davy
  24. OH NO! Jon would NEVER do that... Of course he doesn't know what the speed limits are in strange towns either I had a good go in Jon's car myself, and I have to say it is the most refined and most 'finished' V8 Z I have ever been in. The car is made and runs like it was supposed to be that way new. Thanks for my own fun run in your car, Jon! Davy
  25. I really like the wastegate and the turbo you have. 600 hp sounds about right. Would love to see some header pics when available!! Davy
