  1. I dunno. Ill call them and ask about availability and pricing, I know they did give me/hybridz guys a big discount though. EDIT: Dana at autornd says he thinks there is another set of grids in the warehouse which would be $667 total. Or there are now rota D2's in 17X7.5 +20 with 4x114.3 or 17X8.5 +20 at 4x114.3: http://www.autornd.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=14_8857&products_id=170&osCsid=bedb78b2a38be2bb3be452e93430fdc5
  2. The long wait has paid off... big time. I am very happy to have just recieved my Grids. I think they look good and am quite content. The total cost was $667 after tax and credit card fees. They are the +10 in 16X8 (there is also a 20 offered but 10 is better for the 240z). I will find out what it takes to get them to fit on the toyota 4x4 brake setup. For now I am very happy, especially because they are not as bronze as I thought they would be. I may still get them powder coated smoke chrome though. We will see.
  3. there are many accutally. or maybe thats 245/50/16. But gforce sport g-sport i think it is called seems good.
  4. I just paid for my 4 grids, i should get them from autornd on moday. It was $670 total.
  5. Alsil on this forum sells an x-member for the 5.0 into a s30. It is in the 100-150 dollar range if I remember correctly, and you use early style mustang mounts which attached to the x-member. I think the Explorer engines are non-HO but I could be wrong. I would go with an early 90's mustang block with the stock t-5. If you are a budget that should be by far the simplest. As stated before, the wiring should be very easy. I am going carburated, but if you buy the block with the computer it is pretty much just plug and play except for a fuel pump which should be easy enough.
  6. I am looking into getting one of the super light flywheels (like 13-15 LBS) for a Ford 302. They cost about $350 to $400 a pop. I was wondering if any of you guys have one equipped and can comment on the change in feel. I am aiming to get it like my uncles FIAT for response. Also I am concerned with a carb that in the mornings when the engine is cold that it might stall to easily. Would this be the case? Thanks.
  7. Sorry I have been gone. Well i contacted the ones offering them for $550 and they told me back in octoberish that rota will be doing special orders again in January (2 months ago) and that they can get me a set but I would have to wait. In january i called them back and they then said I would need 5-10 people to get them made. Funny how that works. The other company (the one Aux referred me to) told me that they would contact me as soon as the Grids become available, they haven't called, and it has probably been a year, I asked them a month ago, and they said still waiting. I contacted "suby dude" he is somewhere on eBay, who is also a rota dealer, he said I would need 5ish persons. If you are all up for it I am totally willing to do a group buy. But at this point I have pretty much given up.
  8. Ill take $10 worth or three whichever comes first
  9. Totally agree, I plan on going to the track now every month, instead of being "reckless".
  10. I was coming back from skiing. It was the roseville jurisdiction, but probably not the city. I drove 9 hours that day and got the ticket in the 7th, I wasn't cycling my mirrors enough but was driving sharp. Silly me. About the going into the office and asking for a reduced ticket, I have no idea what to ask/how that will work. Plus, I have no clue what to say, "hey mister I was going 80mph can you please reduce me to that?", reply "no", "oh, okay bye". I have a 102 mph speeding ticket on my record also, so it will be hard to argue. This time though, I really was going 80. Wonder if he just guessed 90 because he saw me brake coming up from behind him. Hmm.
  11. So i live in California and just got a 90mph speeding ticket. My speedo said I was going 80 so I want to contest it. I realize it was stupid to speed, but I think there is a big difference between 80 and 90 and would like the ticket to reflect what I was acctually doing (naturally). The problem is I have no idea to start. First off the ticket was issued in Roseville, which is an hour and a half away, but the cop said I could have it moved down to Oakland. Secondly, what do I say as my argument, I have no proof and pretty much no means of proving myself. Does he have to present papers showing is devices were calibrated? Or am I already assumed guilty (probably violates some rights, right?)? Thanks.
  12. KidPix. But seriously vector works is really easy, but overly simply (that is for the mac). For the PC just get auto CAD LT, and buy AutoCAD for dummies, thats how I learned.
  13. Inch or two if i remember correctly. It is hard to tell because the left valve cover is closer to the engine, say 1/2 to 1" compared to the right. That is with the setup im working out, which leaves maybe 1/2 an inch between the x-member and the front of the mustang oil pan.
  14. How are the synchros on that thing, particularly first. How hight does 1st go to, and can you get in first at say 25mph with just the synchro? Im intrested in this transmission, as I have a t-5 and might want something a little stronger.
  15. But do diesel cars have to be emissions tested?
  16. We have clutches go for the life of the vehicle (200k) and some that last 20k (when my dad drives). What I typically notice is that the clutch almost never completely goes away unless it is really abused. What usually happens is that the clutch looses it's stickiness in certain rpm ranges. Probably just because my dad glazed it though. But it totally depends on the driver from what I have noticed. If you always launch at 1,200 rpm then your clutch will go for a helluv along time. 4,000 not so long etc... Also duration of the slipage has alot to do with it. So in my opinion your question is difficult to ask, but I would assume that the clutch on a 280zx would last as long as just about any other stock clutch. BTW: Are you asking for signs before it is installed or after it is installed. Signs would be slipage if it is already in... If not look for a glazed disk.
  17. Well a Ford 302 like I am doing fits completely (okay except for the fan and harmonic balancer which fit directly above the x-member) behind the cross member and weighs less then the stock I6. It will also make 300hp NA easily. The four probably won't see 300hp N/A and the street, and the V6 (if you thinking a vg30) probably will weigh a substantial amount because of the SOHC/DOHC configuration. It all depends on your style, but most V8's will make good economy, 25mpg is do able, and they will be phenomenal on the street in such a light car.
  18. I CADed out a spacer that was two parts to convert the 4x114.3 to 5x114.3 and it was about .5" minimum width. The problem is that the design is complex, althought I do believe it is safe. Just after thinking over everything, it wasn't the most practical way of going to 5 lug.
  19. Hey. So I am in italy, and decided to check out some italian car magazines. So I am flipping through Quattro Route or something of the sort and stumble upon the new Lexus IS. Cool. My father has a GS, likes it, but we always bitch about the lack of a stick shift. I know the new IS 250 has a stick, which is cool, but it still isn't enough of a reason for us to get a more compact car (my dad is getting older and he wants bigger cars, like an LS, my mom is quite opposed to this and wants a gs or smaller). SO basically in europe there is something facisnating called the IS 220d. It is a 2.2L diesel as the name suggests. I always wanted to own a diesel and this looks like a little gem. 177hp at 3,600 rpm and 300Lbft from soemthing like 2000-2600. Gets 52 mpg freeway!!!!! 36 city, 44.8 mpg combined. Now the issue is importing it, but wait since it is a diesel it is smog exempt right?? What problems might I run into other then smog? The car looks and weighs pretty much the same as the US spec stuff so maybe it has the same safety gear built in. Will this be difficult to import? Also, will it be excepted at US lexus dealerships for warrenty and maintanance? Note: If i can import this I bet the car will feel boat loads better then the US spec model becuse the italian market likes the cars considerably sportier. I hope for increased spring rates and a more responsive engine . Double Note: It makes 0-100kmph (0-62 mph) in 8.9 Seconds. That isn't mind numbingly fast but it is fast enough for me and my parents. Since it has a turbo how difficult/safe would it be to extract a few more PSI from it (sorry i dont know much about TD's)
  20. I think it is funny if you imagined it never happened...
