  1. imagine with 225mm tire 17 icnh and 7 width needs what offset to fit tokico illumina's on a 240?
  2. heh now where do i find fittings for that? also a newbie question.... do all brake lines use the same threads metric/inch im assuming not?
  3. I was wondering if th datsun 240z uses standard brake/fuel line fittings or if they have a metric thread or soemthing different... any one know where i should buy the lines? i tried pepboys and kragen and they didnt have the diameters or length's i needed.
  4. almsot positive ford sbf 302 is lighter then the L6 with out the aluminum goodies... thats why im going that route any way... i hope it is, can someone confirm?
  5. Does any one know how mucht he front fenders weigh, just the metal, thanks! (240z please)
  6. ok fine i would suggest a mechanicle parking brake not emergency brake
  7. this is true. I was just trying to kind of point out that the calipers were designed to apply pressure for a relatively small amounts of time. I would think that having many psi on the piston seals for consecutive days would not do good things as far as keeping the fluid in. Even if it only leeks one drop after a month or two, thats still to much for me . But as far as using it as a parking brake, elimitinating the mechanical option in case of brake failiure for whatever reason doesnt seem to make sense to me
  8. any pressure that can last 24 hours on a caliper piston seal is a bad idea. No matter how nice of seals you got eventually something is going to leak. Any way line lock i would assume is okay if you set it low. But the reason you dont want to get rid of a parking brake is b/c parking brakes mechanically push the piston against the disk. Ive had e-brake cables snap just for normal use.... so if you use line lock make sure you leave that **** in 1st or R! and yes i would make my e-brake on the front in that case, for burn outs .
  9. Heres a rebuild question for the rear 240sx calipers.. thats the piston of the rear 240sx caliper... if i were to rebuild the caliper how necessary would it be to remove that snap ring and replace whatever is in therE?
  10. i think one pattern is rectangular and the other one is square... can't rmemeber tho
  11. well r180 was for automatic 280's if i remember correctly... they arent ment to handel a manual transmission. I would suggest going to the pick n pull and dealing with the extra 30 ish pounds probbably worth it. Also it should bolt up to your drive shaft if it is r200
  12. it is hard to see but the top of the caliper piston is knicked just slightly. but is this piston okay or do i need to buy a $20 new one. Its just at the top and doesnt stick out much. thanks!
  13. not sure but also for drag when you put 375635789 psi u need strong cylinder walls for a 1, 2, or 3 runs... for 9 seconds, who cares you just dont want it to fall apart. But yah what grumpy vette said too
  14. but... would the cv's off the 300zx 87-89 bolt right onto a 240z?
  15. go with a the illumina' if you want your ride to be perfect for you, even if you don't adjust them everyday if you buy something w/o adjust you might regret the feel. thats my opinion... plus if you don't like them you can probably sell them for more then you bought them $505 is nothing for 4 illumina's with springs. I'm not sure if they are offered for the 280 thats the only problem :S
  16. thanks, im jsut going to see if my girlfriends dad can get a compressor to work
  17. ok well if i didnt have compressed air, is there any way? and to a more important question... if the car can't run for the next 6 months to a year does it amke sense to rebuild the calipers now or should i jsut open them up and put the seals in last minute, right before driving the car? what are the reprocussions if i put the seals in now... they would be in a realitively dry enviorment, other than a little dot 5
  18. i heave now determined that the seals are inside the piston, duh. heh but im having trouble getting the pistons out, im using two screw drivers to gain leverage but this is still very difficult any help on the leverage thing? by the way my compressor does not have a hose fitting so no way to pump air into it
  19. ok well i wanted ot run these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=7973970382&category=43958 but it seems the offset is just too great where do you guys recommend looking for wheels that can fit about a 255-265 rear and a 215-225 front? im sticking to 4 lug thats why those looked so appealing
  20. hey i need help supa fast as im trying to figure this out right now, ig ot the rebuild kit for the s12w toyo calipers heres what came: seals now all i need to know is where to put the smaller of the two rings (upper right in the pink box) so thats the ring i was wodnering and as you can see the diameter of the ring mathches up witht he metal flange right below it, now im wondering where to put that ring, im assuming the other rings (on the left in this photo, dust boots are they??? or seals they are more flexable any way) will go over all of it. so if someone could tell me where the small rings go on the pciture below any help would be very appreciated... please if you feel up for it i prefer you use photo shop to simply draw the ring in, otherwise please explain, thanks!!
  21. Vague question.... but... how much room is available with tokico or stock struts/springs installed for backspacing on a 240z? so what im getting at is, at a reasonable distance out, say for a 16", 17", 18" rim how much room is there from the place where the wheel bolts onto to the nearest obstruction (in inches)? Just wanting to know if these 18X9.5 rear +35mm ofset and 18X 7.5 +38mm offset rims will fit a tokico'd suspension. Other option is a 17X9 rear +38mm and 17X7 +38mm...t hanks! also.... can someone explain to me how people who run a wheel width of x can have the tire tread in mm so far off from the rim width. For instance. width of 7.5" translates to a 190mm tire tread width if they sit exactly ontop of eachother. Now how does someone fit a 205 or even a 225 on that? thanks!
  22. you can get a full set of 5 way adjustable tokico struts with the 4 shocks that compliment it on ebay for 505, 544 if you live in ca but thats for a 70-78 jjust saying it probably isnt too expensive to find something like that for an 80
  23. im thinking twin 2.5 to a 3 inch (-2.75 sq in over dual 2.5") or 3.5 inch (-.2 in square in over dual 2.5) i thinkt he 3.5 in will be more close to a dual 2.5" size but is a 3 in more than enough? if so i will probably use the turck/suv aero turbine muffler... if i did that, would it be wise to still use the baffles? 2nd idea is a dual 2.5 to a 3.5" with a baffle and two cones, would this be about as loud as a muffler or do the baffles/cones only cut out noise to a certain extent?
  24. wow so no muffler at all? how loud will this be.... or does the spiral baffle really work that well? also pipe diameter 4 inch from the y back? or is that jsut over kill? what is the dimension of the exits from shorty 302 headers 2.5? 2?
