Redxiii
Hey everyone, I'm trying to get a quote from SCAT for a custom crankshaft ground to LD28 specifications, I have done a bunch of googling and cant seem to find the remaining specs that I need, Rod journal width Rod width itself I do not have my L24 or L26 apart right now to measure them so if anyone has any insight I would really appreciate it! Thanks in advance, Ryan
V-Fib
Would a Nissan factory service manual have that information in the engine mechanical section? I know the 280z FSM has the L28 crankshaft specs. Edited February 1, 2014 by V-Fib
roger280zx
If you're gonna do that it might as well get a longer stroke and Honda journals. Just sayin...
1 fast z
Make sure they FULLY counterweight it, unlike the stock L ones.
jeffp
been there done that! I contacted scat enterprises a few years back and they were not willing to do a one off crankshaft. But if you get anywhere with them, expect to pay in the range of 3K to have them do a crankshaft. I did know one person that had one done and it turned out perfect, all the bells and whistles. So go for it. NOTE: don't google scat, you will be very surprised what you come up with, disgusting webpage LOL. google SCAT ENTERPRISES. ctc
Crower will also cut you one. They asked for a stock L28 crank to use as a pattern, but will do it without one as well. Looking in the 3-4k range.
gnosez
I believe Rebello might have had a few made.
Redxiii
well thanks everyone for all the information, my machinist told me he had just some regular old SBC ones cut from scat to his specifications, and he said his was a touch over 1000, if it was that much I might be interested, seeing as most LD28 cranks are upwards of 600 or more if you can find them which has proved being a real chore. But you guys are saying 3-4000 which is a little out of my price range
Redxiii
Doesn't rebello do regrinds? Edited February 4, 2014 by Redxiii
Xnke
Kameari has stroker cranks available, as does PMC racing engines in the Southlands.
Graphitez
Rebello has a stroker crank made to spec from Brian Crower for a 3.35L build he is currently working on. Check out this youtube video from his shop.
Redxiii
Very cool graphitez, I wonder how much he would have paid for that. I don't think they mentioned it in the video but they did say they might start producing some kits but of course they will be more expensive than the regular 3.1 kit, maybe I will just hold out for the 3.35l kit that sounds amazing! Redxiii
What does he mean by a tall deck block? One that is not planed I guess? Or maybe it is a stock diesel block?
mrcheeze36
If not the LD block I'm guessing a plate like the OS Giken one from their RB 3L kit. Edited February 5, 2014 by mrcheeze36
Redxiii
THAT ^ is much cool, very wow. I wonder how much it would be to get a plate made like that with correct oil and water passages for an L engine, then we could maybe use an LD crank and longer rods and get a large displacement maybe even close to the 3.4litres Rebello will be making?! roger280zx
^^^^^ must be new here. Search is your friend. PMC builds them like that, probably others.
Xnke
You're on the right track with that RB30 picture...Your stroker crank starting point is in that picture...
Redxiii
Yeah I am pretty new here, under a year anyways, I'm on here like 6 times a day though hah. I know everyone always says search search search, I didn't even bother checking I just figured I would hammer out that message as it was a subject of conversation anyways. Nonetheless I'll check out what PMC is doing thanks for the pointer guys!

1vicissitude
Very interesting stuff here. Wonder what one of the Crower kits will run? Very cool they are going to offer a tall block and std height block option. I imagine just based off Crower's other kits these will be lots more affordable than the jdm offerings.
