Rotisere Pics

One of the HybridZ members had a very nice set of drawings on his site, but I can't remember the link. I went getto on mine and used a couple of engine stands with with home welded mounting brackets.

Here's some links I did have:

I built the one MikeKZ has the link to. I used 1/4" tube for where the 11 guage tubing was spec'ed because I'm paranoid and also wanted one for a bigger car later.

I also fabbed a jack platform for each end to utilize bottle jacks to raise the car. I believe I have posted a thread on this. I guess I should load some pics onto the site for people too see - they appear to have gotten deleted in the past...

nice rotisserie. are you able to rotate the body so the the car is "belly up?" every pic i have seen a z car on a rotisserie' date=' the body is on its side or right side up....

thanks

Probably because people dont usually work under a rotisserie... which means the only things you would work on while "belly up" are the sides, which are already available while right side up. Not trying to be a smart-a$$, I almost asked the same question a while back, then thought about it for a minute..... = )

Well since this thread has been revived, I guess Ill post a couple pics of the rotisserie I've been working on. I hope BradMan doesn't mind me copy his nice design. I did change the design of the base though. I will be adding HD casters and finishing the moving pieces tomorrow. And yes, I will be able to rotate the car 360 deg with this design. Another nice thing about using the platform bottle jacks is that the car itself doen't need to be sky high on jack stands in order to be mounted on the rotisserie. It's a bit more work, but I think it will be worth it in the end.

There are some reasons to go belly up on the rotisserie. I was welding the firewall/cowl area on my car and I was sitting on the leading edge of the roof with my legs sticking out through the windshield hole. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=106849

not sure how I missed that thread, but your work looked very nice, will be referring to it in the future, I am afraid.... my car looks good, but I am all too aware of what is probably waiting for me when I go to restore the chassis.

when i say "belly up" i am refering to having the car rotated 180 degrees. with the roof close to the ground. i am wanting to build a rotisserie and just wanted to be sure that it was safe to rotate the car 180 degrees. to those who understood what i was refering to, thanks for your responses....

Yes you can put it in the roof down position but I don't think I ever had a reason to.

I certainly don't mind your changes, my customization was of someone else's design.

My garage has a lip at the entrance to keep out water, so I opted to use 10" pneumatic tires to make it easy to roll in and out for blasting purposes.

Turning the car around in the garage is not an option, just rolling in and out, so I just welded more tubing onto the existing base to keep the initial height (and consequently total height) down.

With 1/4" thick square tubing, I don't have to worry about things bending.

by the way, here is the link that I got the plans from (minus my own updates):

Rotisserie

I believe this was actually copied from another site that someone had an MGB restoration project from, which had some nice pictures, but appears to be gone.

The above link does have a materials list and good directions.

By the way, my gallery does have a pic of my rotisserie setup...
